in I’ve redesigned on Scobleizer
Looks very nice, much better than the old style. Few issues with the FF panel but that will get sorted. Good work.

Hi Steven. What wiki software did you decide to go with in the end?

StevenHodson I managed to get PmWiki up and running with some semblance of control in place :) I still have to figure out how a couple of the trickier things are done but on the whole I think I've managed okay.

in What I was using to hit Facebook — unreleased Plaxo Pulse on Scobleizer
As a Plaxo user myself I can see the benefits of doing this. Facebook should bite the bullet and open up, after all as you say they are quite happy to harvest data in other systems. Maybe the other systems should shut Facebook out of the loop.

in What I’ve learned in 2007 on Scobleizer
Robert, great post. Happy new year to you and all your family. Make the most of everyone that is close to you. I lost my father this year and realized how fragile life can be and how much we miss people when they are gone. Some bloggers gone too this year. Sad. However, it is a new year so advice - keep your lenses clean and refocus often!

in Dear Jeff Bezos (one-week Kindle review) on Scobleizer
It IS nice to get an unbiased review from someone who was prepared to use the thing for a week and then report back. Well done for trying it out.

Is it so bad to publicize yourself? I thought we were all micro brands now!

An interesting set of scenarios. The problem? As someone else pointed out, getting people to use tools that are outside of their comfort zone is a tough job. Most people here at UWE will use Office, email, perhaps peek at the intranet. We've been trying to get people to communicate using SharePoint 2007, using the MySite/MyProfile functionality. Slow take up, even though they get a blog, wikis, lots of Facebook style functionality. The reason? It's outside their level of comfort, for now. One tool that is at present in transition from not used to being used is corporate IM. Thats a good 10 years after the technology became available! That's just the staff by the way. Our students adopt all technologies straight away.

in Dreamhost sucky on Scobleizer
As other people have pointed out, there is no unbiased advice when it comes to hosting. We use Dreamhosts for our arts trail site (http://sbaweb.co.uk) because they are cheap and offer unlimited domain hosting. We have had a little downtime but nothing more than we have experienced from other hosting companies. Mostly I like them because they are friendly, listen to what the customers (mainly geeks) want, and tries to provide that service. Dont spoil it by dissing them, they get it, even if their servers dont!

in The most expensive pocket digital camera? on Scobleizer
Robert, believe me despite what I said, if I could afford a Leica, I'd be down the shop as quick as a rat up a drainpipe!

in The most expensive pocket digital camera? on Scobleizer
It's not the camera that takes the picture, its the person stood behind the camera. There's a good article by Ken Rockwell that discusses this point very well http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/notcamera.htm

in Calling Seattle startups on Scobleizer
Well my own site (peterhaus.co.uk) doesnt get that much community, but the site I work on for the southbank bristol arts (http://southbank-bristol.co.uk/cm) is starting to build it. Its a difficult thing to do - build a community, add features and still keep it simple enough for deeply committed technophobes to use!
