HORRIBLE IDEA!

Why should RIM waste its time on a limited proprietary technology like cdma? Which has less than a 1/8 (and dropping) compared to industry leading, open, standard, GSM, the Global System for Mobile communication.

Why should RIM waste its money on paying royalties to Patent holding company like qualcomm? RIM was just forced to end Patent games with NTP.

Why should RIM waste time, money, and consumer good will on a device for verizon which will only be locked down with buggy vzw firmware changes for removing features, functions, and applications.

Claiming to be a fan of RIM is one thing, but trying to convince RIM and others into thinking vzw and cdma is the way to go is the worst forward direction for RIM. Thank goodness for RIM they are smarter than that.

relax your verizon cheerleading. verizon has not taken the lead in anything other than perhaps crippled devices using a proprietary, closed technology to build it's network around.

cdma providers are dropping cdma and moving on up to gsm, the Global System for Mobile Communication.

"Seriously.. think about it for a second" Like Elise pointed out would RIM be smart making devices first for over 2.4 billion GSM customers or 4.25 million and dropping cdma customers.

verizon please make sure to "fix" the firmware too, make sure your in CONTROL of everything, and cripple what you aren't in control of, you know like you do with all vzerizon branded phones.

Better hurry though, consumers are waking up to verizon games. Those "lower 48" are upgrading slowly to the freedom of GSM.

That RIM worldwide GSM market looks mighty good.

verizon's anti-consumer culture, and dead end cdma network WILL be verizon's downfall. No top tier handset manufacture makes devices for cdma, and even if they did verizon would lock them down and cripple functions and applications. att uses GSM, which is the Global System for Mobile Communication, it's a non-proprietary, open standard. Every manufacture makes GSM phones.

verizon - closed, proprietary, anti-consumer, network not available around the globe. verizon like being anti-consumer is also anti-union. qualcomm's holding verizon's leash.

att - open, non-proprietary, pro-consumer, using technology and devices which works around the globe. att is Pro-UNION.

Cheerleading aside att's network is as good if not better than verizon's around the US. Its sad that vealot's are stuck on believeing everything that comes out of verizon's hole.

Too bad those at BlackberryCool time after time can't leave personal fantasy's of verizon alone in fantasy world, and keep whining for the day (that will never come) when RIM or any other manufacture takes verizon and cdma seriously. Global wireless subscribers numbers tell the tale why. GSM is growing, cdma is falling.

Whats that? verizon doesn't have service where you work? verizon's closed, proprietary, anti-consumer, network which is not available around the globe, OR at your place of work and you have to suffer with 2 generation old RIM devices? At&t's network (GSM) is just as good if not better than what your hopes and dreams tell you vzw has. There are many good reasons why "manufacturers love GSM", and why manufacturers and consumers ignore cdma, and why service providers are taking old cdma networks and upgrading them to global standard GSM networks.

wcdma is falling flat due to qualcomm. cdma networks are falling flat and being upgraded to GSM, why? because of qualcomm.

Service providers, manufactures and consumers in the know, know better than to chose proprietary, non-standard technologies from arrogant, greedy, lawsuit happy, patent-holding company named qualcomm. Consumer based communication going forward needs to be like GSM is today; open, non-proprietary, and a global standard.

cdma, wcdma anything qualcomm is not the right way forward in consumer communication networks.

Its the price cdma users MUST pay to use 2nd rate proprietary technology. Better to upgrade to a GSM provider.
