Leesa, another could be - effective podcasters still make that podcast when they're not in the mood. podcasters should be in it for the long haul, and skipping a week because you don't feel like it will simply burden you in the long run.

interesting idea dave. we definitely need to learn what we want out of this thing, rather than just using it the way we see other people doing it.

i really appreciate the way he said, "it's too easy." to me, that says "it takes time away from important things," and I can really appreciate that. sometimes the hardest things are the most valuable.

I saw the Austin one. You're correct that there was no mainstream media there... they covered it on Australian TV though.

I was particularly shocked by the number... there aren't a ton of people in Austin, but the size of the protest was 100+, which I was impressed by.

man, i have so much to say about this.

first, a commendable comment from Aaron. it's typical to sit back and expect things to get better without getting involved. it's the same with any cause-- people buy a product where XX is donated to cause Y for every purchase, instead of donating that XX amount themselves... passive.

i remember listening to podcasts at a time when Podshow was seen to be the saviour of the industry. many of you seem to be acting like we're still there... why?

dictate your own terms; don't wait on a huge company to come and solve these problems for you. i think skipping the pre-rolls was the best thing Chris could've done for the community-- it gets the point across more than any bitching. if the pre-rolls truly are the wrong thing to do, Podshow will see it in their bottom line, and make changes then.

i long ago made my peace with the pre-rolls Podshow puts in front of my show and others. i am very familiar with the consequences, and accept them along with the benefits i reap from them being present... i am also grateful for the audience i have that goes through them every time-- for my benefit.

i assure you guys (not as Podshow apologist, that's not my job) that, though they aren't always talking, the guys mentioned above are always listening to what's going on, and working a hell of a lot more than the majority of us are to affect change within the company. but, like most of us with day jobs, they're still just two guys working inside a $25 million $+ operation. that shit is hard, and it takes time.

one thing remains true-- every second that pre-roll goes on is one second i don't have the chance to reach them. that sucks, and i hope Podshow comes to understand that i can keep a listener better than a pre-roll does, extending Podshow's influence rather than shrinking it, which it now looks like these ads are doing.

i totally agree. infighting hurts everyone.

when i think about what kind of damage can be done to both business and reputations with this, it upsets me. after all, google remembers everything. being upset with someone one day (and blogging it), you had better be prepared to have those arguments read by readers pretty much forever (that is, unless you're the type to edit your stuff out of existence).

in a comparison, amanda and andrew are now doing fine with their own thing independently, it seems. they also did well at your event together, so hopefully this won't turn into name calling and hair pulling. i've always respected andrew baron's method of dealing with the crises that eventually end up his way due to the position he has.

i wonder about what steve is saying. i agree that we WANT participants, not just audience, but in fact, most people are very susceptible to staying in TV mode, sitting back and just absorbing. this is enhanced by the laptop, which tends to get you immersed in whatever's on your screen instead of what's happening right in front of you.

whatever the case, calling them 'participants' is certainly a step in the right direction.

likewise, feedburner's forum.

feed requests (aka, hits on the xml page) can't be accurately turned into subscriber requests. they need to be cross-referenced with IP addresses to ensure that duplicates aren't recounted.

great site. it has some of the worst captioning i've ever seen.

as someone who is hard of hearing, i want to be able to look at what action is going on on the screen while being able to read the captions with ease. whomever designed that part of the UI made it impossible by putting the captions and the action in two distinct parts of the screen, which makes me decide what i prefer to experience: the content, OR the pretty pictures. (instead of what i should be experiencing: both.)

conclusion: the captions were an afterthought. it's very nice that they were added in and i was pleased to see it available as an option. they are badly designed, however, and it's clear that no hard of hearing person actually worked on helping the design team with this.
