I've had this book for about a year and haven't been able to read it. Currently I'm in the middle of "Manhunt: The 12 Day Chase For Lincoln's Killer". Its pretty good because its amazing just how much we didnt learn in school. We pretty much he was assassinated in the theater and that was about it. So much detail.
But thanks for the review I'll have to get to this book in the summer. The semester has started and its going to be hard reading anything other than a textbook.

He seems to be a beautiful, strong man. I'm glad he is able to be the counter to some of the few knuckleheads that get an excessive amount of attention in sports.

Oprah puts her money where her mouth is. Makes it easier to handle the annual weigh issues stories. We have motivated, smart, innovative, creative kids all over the country. Its too bad those in their lives (family or not) have such low expectations for them.
Great story Marv.

in Help Me Understand, Please on Conversations With Marva
I can't help you understand this one. I was hoping someone could help me understand. I don't know what his monthly child support was but its not as much as she was responsible for I'm sure. I think its rare that disadvantaged women used child support money to live a glam life. You have rent (if you didn't have a kid you could live in a smaller, cheaper place.) Daycare, child needs and when they get older they need clothes, etc. They want to go on field trips, they want to do things with their friends, they want to participate in activities. For men who have concerns document, take pictures, put the system on the women the way they did it to you. You can't lose your mind about it because 1- you should be out of the money anyway and 2-be concerned enough to fight for full custody. But I'm pretty #2 ain't going to happen with a lot of these guys who whine about child support.
As far as I'm concerned he didn't want to pay child support nor did he want or know how to be a father. You are right Marv, he didn't want this responsibility.

Its definitely a Blockbuster or Netflix or On Demand or public library check out kind of movie. Even if you're a Will Smith fan I'd just wait it out. At least until it gets to the discount movie theater if you have one in your area.

Nice. I love it. I hope the Obamas in the White House brings about more of our history beyond the fact that slaves help build the White House.

And it has to be asked. Who are the bad guys going to be if Diddy is James Bond? Are they going to Africa? I dont see him being able to go under cover in Russia.

From SI:
Florida State professor Sally Karioth bought two cards to give her prized pupil Saturday; one for good news and one for bad. Had Myron Rolle opened the bad-news card, it would have played the old Band-Aid jingle.
That card will remain stuck in its envelope. When Rolle, FSU's starting free safety, opened the good-news card, it blasted that Tag Team classic, "Whoomp, There It Is." And that probably marked the first and last time Tag Team will serenade a freshly minted Rhodes Scholar.
Rolle, a junior who earned his bachelor's degree in 2 1/2 years, now has the opportunity to join a club that includes former President Bill Clinton and former New York Knicks star and U.S. senator Bill Bradley. He was one of two Rhodes scholars selected from 13 candidates in District 7, which comprises Florida, Alabama and Tennessee. There are 32 Rhodes Scholars elected each year. Rolle is the first BCS conference starter to win a Rhodes Scholarship since Stanford tight end Cory Booker in 1992. Booker now is the mayor of Newark, N.J.
Rolle said he wasn't nervous for his interview early Saturday afternoon.
"It's almost like a game," he said. "You practice, practice, practice, and when the lights come on, you show what you're made of."
The scholarship will pay for two to three years of tuition, room and board at Oxford. Rolle has said he likely would study medical anthropology at Oxford.
After hearing the good news, Rolle hopped into an SUV, which took him to Birmingham International Airport. There, he boarded a jet bound for Baltimore. Upon landing, Rolle will travel to College Park, Md., where he will hopefully arrive in time to play the remainder of the Seminoles' game against Maryland.

Rosewood...that is the movie right there. Thats the one that ticks me off.
And yes, Michelle looks so stunning in that picture.
The Abraham Biggs story is so sad.
As far as Myron Rolle and stories like his, I think we should have a day, good news Tuesday or something, where we post about something good in the Black community. After starting "Tradition of Excellence" trust me, I know there is no shortage of good news that hits my inbox every day.

Yes, this "man having a baby" story is tired and overhyped. They are acting like a Mike had a baby.
And that snake....ARGH, my chest hurts. I feel like Fred Sanford. I showed my son and when the video was over he sitting there stilling waiting and said, "What?"

His choice of Palin cracks me up for all the rah rah over great strategic move. I've said how I feel about that on my blog. But what cracks me up is this is from the man who would rather lose an election than lose a war and that the VP has to be ready to lead should something happen to the president.
The phone number thing. I just tell them. One time this guy said, "Okay I'll give you my number." I said as politely as I could, "No thank you, because I won't use it." My mother said I was so mean. Eh. I'm all about being nice but I don't think I should have to place myself in an over the top uncomfortable situation just to be nice.
