Gosh, I was really excited about this concept. Unfortunately, after trying them, all I can say is:

BEWARE OF GAZELLE!

I shipped them my camcorder, in mint condition, and after three weeks of processing, they claimed it had "a broken door hinge" and will recycle it for me (for free), reneging on their original offer. It was working perfectly when it left my door, and they broke it (either through shipping or handling). I'm glad I took pictures of the unit before to prove this.

So either they don't have their act together, or they're a tried and true scam.

Andrew, great post. Jesse has a great idea though; either of those would drive a ton of traffic and you'd have a good point. Startups focus way too much on Techcrunch.

So you announce vaporware now? As far as I can tell, they aren't even in beta.

One of these days I'm going to have to pick your brain on how you got to be an EIR. It sounds like such a great position. Six months to think about business ideas? That sounds like heaven!

Being both a dev guy and an idea guy, I find the two mutually exclusive. After a day of coding, I don't feel at my most creative. It's only on those hikes around the bay or when I allow myself a day of respite that my best ideas emerge.

Be sure to make the best of that "free" time!

It seems to me that this "building something that you'd want" theme is one of the common features of all great success stories. When people build what they themselves want, they build faster and better.

The grub of course lies in finding the largest overlap between what you need and what the rest of the world needs.... But in the end, you really should be your own biggest fan.
