Mark, I've had my fill of unionized grocery stores. Surly help, filthy conditions, and 30% higher grocery bills.

"Since when is more hours of bad customer service better than fewer hours of good service?"
During the open hours, I've found the service to be about the same. And Best Buy being too lazy to open the doors is very bad customer service. "Limited hours" is by itself an example of bad customer service. Refusing to take my money for the goods. what can be worse than that?

Mark is right. When I go to Best Buy to get Season 3 of "Lost" on DVD, it might be a little cool that the guy there can tell me about the show. But I already know about the show.

Walmart doesn't do a thing to small businesses. It can't. It only runs its own stores, not those of small businesses. It can't be blamed for the poor decisions that some other business owners make that put themselves out of business.
The city councils should butt out. It's not the USSR after all where every business that opens must get permission from the kommissars. If they own the land, let them open a store on it. If the city really does not like it, no one will shop there and it will fail. That's the typical way to see if a business is needed.

You might want to try cooking them before eating them. It helps with canned vegetables.

Walmart already has Best Buy beat on customer service. This is easy to prove. Just show up at either store at 7 AM to buy something. The Walmart will let you right in to get what you need. The Best Buy thinks so little of its customers that it locks you out until 10 AM.
So much customer service is willingness to serve customers. By locking customers out except for limited hours each day, Best Buy and other companies push customers away.

Sure thing...show up 3 hours earlier to find an employee that has very limited knowledge about anything other than a bath towel.
A 7am visit may be ok for the purchase of a shirt however dealing with specialized electronics is another thing. Well worth the 3 hour difference.

in $600 Billion In New Taxes Coming on Zero Hedge
Senators Grassley and Baucus are discussing raising up to $1.7 trillion in revenue by taxing health care benefits. They are looking at a couple options.
1. Raise $418.5 billion over 10 years by taxing health care benefits that exceed the federal employee health care option of blue cross/blue shield.
2. Raise $161.9 billion over 10 years by limiting the tax under option 1 to single taxpayers making over $100k and joint filers making over $200k.
3. Raise $1.7 trillion over 10 years by taxing 50% of all health care benefits.

in $600 Billion In New Taxes Coming on Zero Hedge
My bet is that Obama will end up funding his health care proposals by imposing a VAT tax, on top of the income tax. It lets him get stimulus if it doesn't apply until January 2011 because people will accelerate spending before then. It gets at wealthy people without much income. Win win, in'it?

in CBRE: This Has NOT Been A Liquidity Crisis, But A Crisis Of Bad Credit on Zero Hedge
Even if 2 of Fitch, Moodies, and Realpoint bless CMBS as AAA, S&P can throw a wrench in the works because the Fed's TALF guidelines prevent any instrument from qualifying if it receives a rating by any agency below AAA. Of course, the Fed can scrap the requirement of no rating below AAA, but it hasn't yet.

Hi E, the insurance companies typically do not use leverage, so the issue is not TALF. Rather, the issue is that their regulatory based capital requirements (from the NAIC, and various state regulators) generally allow them to classify a bond as AAA if the middle rating is at least AAA. They have to set aside additional capital if the ratings fall too low, so Realpoint continuing to rate the bonds AAA really is a life saver (especially since the insurance companies hold so much CMBS).
In terms of the CBRE presentation, it was disappointing, unprofessional, and full of factual errors. I was surprised. They are raising a CMBS fund too - are they talking down prices while they're fundraising so they can buy cheap? http://www.cmalert.com/headlines.php?hid=28589

The EFCA is very anti-worker since it abolishes their basic democratic right to a free ballot.

Mark
Realist, keep the facts straight but you can still state the obvious. The EFCA does NOT abolish the free ballot BUT it will effectivly render it null and void. Why would a union stop at 30% and then call for the election when if they get 50% they can AND WILL stop right there and not even call for an election. Why should they? They won once they reach that point. That's hypocracy of the Employee Free Choice Act... there is NOTHING employee free about it... unless you're a union who can't wait to get their hands on dues money of course.
The EFCA is the best spent union member dues you can find. It's ashame the main thing it does is screw over the people they purport to support.

i especially like the part where she says latino women will do a better job coming to conclusions than white males. thats the type of impartial racism we need in the supreme court. but hey, we have a giant blank check written out to "latino woman" on it. so who cares about scrutinizing this?
