in Star Trek On iTunes on Webomatica
Heh, interesting idea. In that vein, a former co-worker suggested a series where each episode took place on a different starship, with different crews.
It seems more people I talk to would be interested in a series "reset", set in the future, along the lines of the new Battlestar Galactica or Batman Returns, James Bond style.
Anyhow, I'll definitely check out that Trek blog. Sounds "fascinating".

Thanks. Coincidentally, I noticed this article on ZDnet about social websites and portability of data... something I'm interested in.
Glad to see you folks are thinking ahead and realizing that once I as a user gets all my book data into in your site, I might want to get it back out someday.

Hmmm, well seeings how a replacement adapter is 80 bucks, I'm going to stick with this non-lighting variety until it really dies or explodes (obviously I'm hoping for the former).
You make me wonder if one of our cats did something to it. I have seen one of them nibbling at the end of the cord from time to time...!

Well... from what I can gather they have some usability argument. I'm totally fine with colors... just gimme a square with rounded corners and some pretty image to look at... especially if it's going to be in my dock all day.

Gee, I'm glad you were able to "help yourself." There are many other games that I have memories of... I hope to post on some of my favorites in the future, namely Karateka, Boulderdash, and some other treats.
It sure reminds us how long computers have been around (and how old I am getting)... these are the "oldies but goodies" of computing!

Heh, I've definitely done about half the things on that list.
And now I have the urge to blog about your blogging list but I'm going to resist (since that falls under the banner of blogging about blogging).

Heh... I would have liked to have brought a bottle of Romulan Ale home. Unfortunately, I got worried about it either breaking in our luggage or being seized by airport security (no liquids on the plane) so my brother and I drank it. I still have the bottle, though.

Hmm, does that include all the user created content too? Seems like the rate of creation will pick up as the storage price decreases, too.
Maybe some people will just leave a camera on, recording everything they do 24/7.

in Time To Bash Digg on Webomatica
Tunequestor that is a good observation. I think maybe the lack of care occurs when the number of users is so large that people ironically become more or less anonymous - kind of like how in a big city people figure "well I'll never see this person again" so they just act rude.
One way digg could conceivably rectify this is make it clear who diggs a comment up or down. They already have a way of showing who diggs a certain story but who's going to browse through 1,000 users to pick out a person. At least with the comments, when I notice someone diggs my comment down for no clear reason (which for some reason happens to mine a lot) I could track that person down.
It's the anonimity that makes people feel less accountable (as craigslist demonstrates). It's actually strange: a social site gets so popular that it actually becomes more anti-social because of the huge numbers.
But ultimately, I don't have any clear answers or solutions which is why I'm blogging instead :)

Hey tunequest... good picks. Definitely unique. I'll have to politely disagree with you about the man with the golden gun. :)
As for live and let die, I'm a long time beatles fan so despite my attempts to be objective, I'll probably never be able to ignore a good beatley tune.

in Competitors of PodTech that I love, er, going to the Content Mall on Scobleizer
Interesting idea, this "content mall". It looks like the gains to a blogger are a bigger audience and links. Maybe also, an editor to help improve writing and focus on a consistent voice. But what do they lose? Autonomy? Blogging about whatever they want? Integrity?

in A list bloggers: keeping the little guy down? on Scobleizer
Seems like any company that wants a blogger to write a post about them, might do better having their own corporate blog, or better yet, hiring a blogger on their payroll. The amount of time they waste sending these emails could be better spent just learning how to do it themselves. I mean, if I can figure it out, anybody can.

in My thoughts about Zune vs. iPod on Scobleizer
I'm already hooked on Mac stuff so it would take something really awesome from the Zune to make me "switch". I have an iPod video and it's like another appendage. I'm totally embedded in iTunes and the way it manages music and podcasts, and now videos.
The only thing that was intriguing to me about Zune was the wireless. At the minimum it should have allowed syncing with a PC to copy files. The sharing thing is interesting but not cool enough, since you need more than one Zune for it to have any point.
We'll see but I'm predicting this is a loss leader and a doorstop to buy time for MSFT to come out with a better version 2 or 3.

in Is Diggnation really a success? on Scobleizer
Well for what it's worth, I listen to Diggnation every week. I think I buy USA today, like, once a year when I'm on an airplane.
Right now Digg is just trying to build a user base and by making a podcast and video show for minimal investment it's a really good idea, and not one just anybody could pull off. On the show they talk about the popular stories online so the website automatically generates content for the show.
I'm hooked, they don't have to ever worry about being cancelled because the costs to produce the show are so cheap, and I'm happy because the show is entertaining and makes me laugh.
I guess it depends on your definition of success. As far as I'm concerned it is one.

in San Francisco real estate prices on decline? on Scobleizer
If someone has an interest only they aren't building equity for a while, and if house prices sink they will be underwater very quickly. One potential pitfall is that some interest only mortgages have an automatic uptick... if the borrower is underwater and owes 110%, the higher payments kick in.
My 2 cents: seems all the people who stretched and were willing to sign up for these nutty mortgates already have done so. The prices have a ways to drop before they are affordable to the people who will only buy with a 30 year fixed. There will be some good deals to be had in a year or two.

in The advertising problem of the Web industry: banner ads on Scobleizer
I do recall Yahoo redesigning their home page, however it didn't leave much impression on me and now that I think about it I haven't been back.
True that both Unbox and Zune are being slammed (I critisize both myself) but they are both out there to be judged, good or bad. People are interested in both products, while the execution is messed up. So what's going on with Yahoo! Video or Yahoo! Music? Anything new?
I have heard Yahoo! is starting an ad campaign getting people to re-visit their home page (which it sounds like I'm one of those people), so there's no question something is wrong over and above ads. It's brand, it's creating buzz, it's doing something that people want to check out and incorporate into their daily lives.
Seems like their own ad campaign is a step in the right direction. Maybe Yahoo! should advertise on MSFT, Amazon, Google, and Apple's sites.
