Nice post.
What is depressing is reading stuff like Wired's whiny coverage, and Engadget's incredibly obnoxious live blogging of the event.
You know, its one thing to be critical and judicious when covering any product launch (and esp. with Apple). But the new trend with Engadget (esp. the live blogger yesterday) is to take the whole jaded "I've seen everything, nothing will impress me" attitude, and fill the time with "wake me when its over" "ho-hum", etc...drivel.
What made blogs like Engadget and Gizmodo so enjoyable to read when Block, Lam, Rojas, etc.. wrote the entries was that they could be irreverent, critical, and snarky at times, but you always knew that they loved products, and were unabashed fans of gadgets and new stuff, and they weren't afraid to show their love of them.
Their bloggers today are all about the snark, and trying to prove they are too "cool" to be impressed by anything. It is pretty sad.

Thanks AAPLWatch, there is certainly a high level of cynicism about these events these days.

in Streaming video comes to iPhone… on Scobleizer
Wow, thats a pretty major limitation. I actually thought Qik was already on Jailbroken iPhones, or at least streaming video was from someone. We all know it has been done (seen the demos at least).
Doing it on the App Store is the real win.

in It’s worth the hell on Scobleizer
Christ. The lines. The snafus. The total chaos inside the store, watching half the geniuses on the phone with ATT or whoever trying to troubleshoot, etc.
And yeah, it was worth it. The biggest surprise to me (so far)? How beautiful the new iPhone is (at least the white one, which I have). It feels great. It looks great. And it just seems to work "better" than the 1.0 iPhone. Not sure what it is about it.

in Waiting in line for iPhones is glorious on Scobleizer
"someone should call child services on them"
Yeah, thats the ticket. You see a news photo of a family in line, and you immediately think child abuse. Christ. You have no idea how long that child was in the line, or whether it was being "abused".
And Robert, I agree. I didn't wait in line for the iPhone, but have done so for rock concerts and the like in my youth-the most fun is just being in line with others who share your passion, not sure why people get so bent out of shape about what OTHER people choose to do with their time, not to mention immediately getting holier than thou about their children.

in Steve Jobs’ keynote leaked? Puh-leeze on Mathew's comments
"DVD drive pops open on side when eject button is pressed " Don't they all do that?"
No, neither the MacBook nor MBP (nor the iMac for that matter) have anything to "pop open" (they are slot loading) Not sure what the rumor is talking about, unless they are claiming Apple put a door or cover over the slot, or made it tray loading? Or, worse, there was an Apple patent out there that showed a notebook with the DVD drive on the bottom, with a door that...yeah, popped open downward. Ugh.

Thanks, MacBookOwner. I guess it's pretty obvious I don't have one
:-) Either way though, that just sounds off to me.

in Cisco smacks back at Apple on its blog on Scobleizer
Cisco guy definitely knows how to blog effectively-really well done.
And Robert, make sure you snapshot this Techmeme moment and remember it next time you think Apple only gets fawning press and a "pass" on everything-its obvious both their successes AND flaws get magnified by the press/bloggers, something that competitors tend to gloss over.

Yeah, wouldn't want that to happen to anyone.

in Richard Edelman calls… on Scobleizer
Are they taking responsibility for orchestrating a deceptive campaign to make a Wal-Mart look good, by pretending this was a simple blog about a simple american couple on a fun-filled travelin adventure across the U.S. in an R.V., (apple pie, RV'in, and WalMart!)? Or are they taking responsibility for getting caught trying to pull this off? Or are they claiming they didn't know it was going to be a deceptive campaign, and someone else is really to blame, but they are taking responsibility? Or are they claiming they just didn't think there was anything intentionally deceptive about it, except they could have been a bit more "transparent" in how they did it?
