Congratulations and welcome to the world of college life! Though I must say, NY seems like soooo much fun compared to this ulu place I'm stuck in. Pffft.
I'm leaving the US for good 33 days from now and I'm relishing my final days of independence (from overbearing parents teehee) before I pack my bags and say goodbye to college life, and begin a new chapter in my life - the working world.
Enjoy it while it lasts Su Ann, especially since you've been blessed enough to have the opportunity to study at such a prestigous university and in such a majorly awesome city.
p.s. you really should listen to Frank Sinatra's 'New York, New York'. Trust me, you'll appreciate the lyrics so much more now that you're there. I always played it on my ipod when I went exploring!

Your welcome :) Wahhh I really respect you for you tireless efforts at replying everyone, heh, but that's a good thing *pats back*
About the filters zoe mentioned, they're actually filter jugs (aka PITCHERS in the US of A). Hmm how do I explain - its a jug with a top and bottom compartment and a carbon filter in the middle that separates the two. You fill the top compartment with water and it flows through the filter, so when its completely flowed through the filter you get cleaner drinking water (or so I hope!). I guess it would be better if you had visuals, so here's a link:

Sorry haha I'm spamming your comments section. Here's the general rule for tipping at restaurants, taxis, and most services you receive:
Good service (this is the minimum amount that you MUST tip): 15% of your total bill
Very good service: 20% of your total bill
Excellent service: 25% of your total bill
Of course you can go anywhere in between 15 to 25% but anything lower than 15 is considered rude. If you're unlucky enough to get bad service, leave a $1 tip rather than none at all. Apparently its more insulting that way :P
If you're staying at a hotel don't forget to leave $1 per person per night for housekeeping in your room every day you are staying there because it might be a different housekeeper each time. I just save myself that money by hanging the Do Not Disturb sign on my door and paying the tips only on the final day before I check out.
Tipping for people such as porters and bus drivers and anyone who helps you with your luggage is generally $1 per bag.

Heya, here's some tips for ya - you don't need a credit card, your bank's debit card will do. Most banks offer free debit cards when you open a checking account with them, and don't forget to ask if they have student checking accounts (they're usually free, otherwise you have to pay some subscription/annual fee thingo).
Also, I try to get my textbooks (used ones) on Amazon or Half.com rather than at the school bookstore. I've saved alot of money that way.
Stay safe, and have a great term!

Oooo I know which guy you're talking about (the one who can speak Chinese)!!! He interviewed me when I first applied for my visa back in 2006 :P But I've never seen a drool-worthy officer like the one you described (killer smile and mischevious eyes)... =P

Love is...
Steamboat with a group of rowdy friends on a rainy evening;
Coming home to loving arms at the end of the worst day of your life;
Chinese New Year reunion dinner followed by gambling through the night;
Kissing the boyfriend at the stroke of midnight on New Years Eve;
A plate of nasi kandar for lunch followed by a long nap;
Snuggling under the covers on a rainy Sunday morning with the air-cond still on, knowing that you'll be going out for Dim Sum brunch with the Family
Reading trashy romance novels while sipping hot cocoa when its snowing outside (MUST TRY when you are in NY!). Snow vs sex = ??? hahahaha
Okla sorry honey but I am no expert so I can't tell you what love is. All I can say is that it can really hurt, but if you're able to steel yoursel(ves) and make it through the hardest times, the ending will be totally worth it.

How awesome it would have been if all of us were in the same class together!
I hated primary and secondary school. I hated how my teachers didn't like me because I questioned them, corrected their grammatical errors, and did things MY way. I hated how they played favorites, giving As to my fellow classmates who were the "good students", while deliberately giving me a lower grade just because they didn't like me. I hated how we were taught not to be inquisitive, and NEVER to stand up for ourselves. In fact, I rebelled against the system so much I ended up hurting myself. I've always been a straight A student...until SPM. Form 4 and Form 5 were the years that I was the 'worst behaved'. I was happy as long as I maintained my grades at a B average with the occasional A, no longer motivated to aim for the stars.
But anyway, that's all in the past, and this post is about you. I can understand why some people might have gotten the wrong impression about the speech you gave, but since graduating from high school and looking back, I see that quite often it is the intelligent, independent AND sociable students who make it in this world, albeit in their own creative and non-conformist ways ;) And I'm sure those are the individuals who will look back on the day that they heard your speech and realize that hey, you were right after all.

Oooo the party looked like so much fun! You look so kiut in your ladybug outfit, and Hanis' dress is sooo ethereal looking. Do you happen to have a full picture of it? Wanna see! The leaf was an excellent prop, though I'm wondering why in picture #17 your red top was around your waist instead? I'm glad you didn't go as a leopard or a rabbit because so many people picked those....And, haha any chance you have a picture of Ginny's 'before' outfit? So curious to see la :D

Hey boss, you look so kiuuuuttt! I have an idea for you - why don't you try to search online for how to tie sarongs/scarves into a dress? Also hoh, try to do the winged eyeliner look for your leopard costume, and draw leopard spots around the eye area....
For lady bug, I recommend making your own antennaes and tying the dress a-la Marilyn Monroe! :) Sexy pau ladybug!
