There was a woman standing near me and she was FUMING! She was stomping the ground and going on and on. I just kind of nodded and did my best to ignore her. I knew that ruining my day would not bring the bus back! Then another woman came up and asked me if a bus had recently come by. I told her what had happened and she actually laughed! She just smiled and said oh yes they do that some times, it is so frustrating!

The bus passing you is always going to be a somewhat disappointing experience, as is losing someone that you thought you had hired for life. But it really made it clear that there are some people that choose to make the worst of everything, and others that choose to make the best of everything. You can't control how other people react, but you can go back to yourself and choose if YOU will choose to make the best or worst of their reaction.

Re: Yay! The potential employer is looking through hundreds of resumes of people who have similar majors and job experience. I studied furniture design in denmark and that was on my resume. When I was looking for jobs the interviewer ALWAYS mentioned that, and pretty much spent more time asking me about that than anything else. It made me unique.

Re: The modern college student

I felt the same way when I was in school. The truth is that if you live in a capitalist country where you have to pay for stuff freedom REQUIRES money. Even if you live in a self-sustaining commune you still have to pay taxes! The amount of money is different for everyone, but freedom ALWAYS requires money. It takes money to survive, even if only a little bit.

Re: My Liberation Story: Laura Roeder

Thanks everyone for your comments!

Cory I don't know if your comment was for Clay or myself but I'll answer. I find that many people who keep their jobs "because of the insurance" haven't researched the cost of insurance. If you are childless and healthy it is not expensive. I purchased high-deductible coverage for myself for $65/month and paid for dental out of pocket which doesn't add up to more than a few hundred per year. (That statement is in the past tense because I'm now covered under my boyfriend's insurance.)

However, if you have existing health problems or need to insure children I know the rates can be much higher. I'd recommend this site for researching plans: http://www.revolutionhealth.com/insurance/infor...

Re: Real rebellion is going to school wearing a clown suit

I was just thinking about the INCREDIBLE amount of well-intentioned but terrible advice I receive every single day, some of it directly to me personally and a basically unmeasurable amount if I count what I could spend all day reading online. Any Joe Shmo is not going to make many friends blurting, but for big brands it makes a lot of sense. Many of us are on the email list for our favorite stores, we receive blurts when they have a special sale or promotion. I would have no problem receiving this content on twitter as well.

I personally expect my twitter friends to post about their latest blog post or podcast, it's how I keep up with them. I've found myself spending less and less time in netvibes and more and more reading tweeted links.

Re: Interview with Heroes Star Brea Grant

@John There are no plans to monetize the site, and I doubt we ever will. Looking at it from a purely financial perspective, the main way this benefits Brea is that her fans will follow her from project to project, making her future projects more profitable and creating more buzz.

As for your second question, it isn't necessarily true that new actors don't have money to pay for this. You'd be shocked at how much actors pay for headshots, training, acting coaches, lawyers, etc. That's sort of like generalizing that small businesses don't have money to spend. That being said, my focus is not only actors but anyone who wants to establish a "cult of personality" using the web.

Re: You Cant Just Have Peanut Butter

When I read the beginning I thought you were going to say the "jelly" is your website. I agree with metrics, but I think anther overlooked "jelly" is what all that social media is driving people to - your site. Sometimes you will see people who are very active, popular tweeters with ugly, confusing, or poorly-organized sites. I always tell people to focus on the site first, because that’s what all your online marketing is leading to. I dod recognize that this can be a budget issue though, as social media is generally free and websites are generally expensive.

Re: Using Outposts in Your Media Strategy

Checking out this post as referenced in http://www.chrisbrogan.com/you-cant-just-have-p... . . .

I actually think this supports my point even more! I was at a conference with hundreds of entrepreneurs this weekend and heard so many stories of people who could never stay in a job because they shook things up too much - they wanted to actually transform the company instead of just going with the status quo. I see a lot of friends get extremely frustrated with workplaces that operate the "old fashioned" way. I think we'll see the most significant changes as more Gen Y'ers start their own ventures or take over.

Re: You're Racing- I'm Improving

Some people think it sounds strange, but I truly don't believe in business competition. The concept of competition stems from the belief that there is a finite number of customers to be had, or money to be made, which isn't true. First of all no two products or services are exactly the same. And secondly customers can and do buy the "exact same" product or service from two different providers all the time. I think worrying about competition is a total waste of time and energy, and will lead you astray because you get stuck copying others instead of being true to your own style.

Re: Your Lead Generation Methods Have to Change

Hmm, I agree and disagree. I think as far as the ACT of "pounding the list", social media is doing even more of that. Instead of just pounding the list we are now pounding the list, the twitter, the blog, the youtube and the facebook. We do these things because we learned from old-school marketers that you need to your message in front of people many many times and I think that will always hold true.

What needs to change now is the content. Think of all the people you could help with a product like that. From the discussion I'm guessing that you're feeling bad about "taking money" from these people but if your product truly helps them find jobs and lead independent lives you are only helping them!

I think that is a GREAT place to start for your infoproduct. What are some magic bullets that these people need? A list of the most disability-friendly employers in america and instructions on getting a job there maybe?

Re: Startups: your web site sucks

I am constantly SHOCKED at this. The truth is that if you live in a capitalist country where you have to pay for stuff freedom REQUIRES money. Even if you live in a self-sustaining commune you still have to pay taxes! The amount of money is different for everyone, but freedom ALWAYS requires money.

I get so many messages that @breagrant should be using tweetlater or a service that automatically updates twitter w/ her wordpress posts. I disagree, I think the less automation the better and the tips you've suggested make the messages look natural.

Re: Want Social Networking ROI?
