There was a time when I tried to be charitable so I called these people ignorant. No more. They are simply stupid, lacking the mental capacity to achieve the status of ignorant.

What am I missing here? It sounds like the administration objects to the term, not to the program itself.

As matters stand today, the removal of NATO troops would mean the end of the Karzai government. The Taliban would be sucked into the vacuum with a giant whooshing sound. Karzai no doubt needs to make the world think he has the power to control Afganistan, when in fact he is an unpopular figurehead.

Perhaps pulling out of MI is like suspending his campaign to mccain. Has anyone checked to see if he has pulled out? Or do you take him at his word?

Shouldn't bush be planning strategy in Iraq and Afghanistan while the military plans the tactics to carry out bush's strategy. We really aren't at war in Iraq, we're simply occupiers so why on earth do we expect Odierno to have the answers? It' seems bush has outsourced all his planning - nation building to the generals and the economy to Wall Street. But perhaps I have strategy and tactics confused.

All I can say is bully for Contress and thank God the bush administration's grip on this country has been broken. We will have to live with its horribly misguided policies and incompetence for a generation, probably, but soon they will go back where they came from and will not be in a position (hopefully) to do additional harm. Perhaps we will return to the three equal branches of government we were meant to have.
