in Enabling BIOS options on a live server with no rebooting on time to bleed by Joe Damato
First, congrats on the effort and solution. Nice work. There's one bit I'd like to be pedantic about, though: You're not enabling a BIOS option. You're enabling a CPU and chipset feature that, for one reason or another, you could not use the BIOS to enable (no access to BIOS, or the BIOS didn't expose that feature). It's true that the BIOS typically sets up CPU MSRs and PCI config space, although it's also quite common for modern OSes to make changes there as well. That's why you have the handy /dev/msr device for accessing those registers.

actually jason, courts have consistently ruled no such thing.
You are clearly a recording industry shill, trying to get people to believe that anyone cares about your outmoded business model.
Here's a lesson for you - for decades you ripped us off with price gouging, now we get our own back. Wake up and make tracks available in a way that is more convenient than the TPB, for a reasonable price and with no DRM, and hurry up about it or your business will die no matter how many people you sue.

I think you messed Slovenia to Slovakia in the table above.
Slovenia is a member of European Union and has been doing relatively well lately - definitely a core country.
Slovakia on the other hand, is one of the ex-Yugoslavian states with civil war and dictatorship not that many years back in the history. It is actually also doing better nowadays, but 2004 it is understandable that it was marked as a gap country.

in Dirty Sexy Money: Renew or Cancel? on TVbytheNumbers
I love these Renew of Cancel? columns. :) Helps me decide whether to stick with some of the shows I'm feeling "on the fence" about at the moment. OTH, if and when the impending writers' strike happens -- and it goes on for looong -- I'll have time to catch up with just about any show.

Excellent article! I hope you'll do other on-the-fence, not-yet-full-season-pickup shows as well, like Dirty Sexy Money or Chuck.

in Metaplace demo video on BBC on Cuppytalk
Um. There are more styles than either Hello Kitty or death dripping servants of evil. I was expecting a neutral look, one that didn't set the atmosphere at the very beginning.
Yes, I understand perfectly well that the Metaplace is a platform and anything can be constructed there -- that's not the issue. The issue is that we (well, at least I) are trying to gauge the demographic that the Metaplace will be oriented to, for I don't think you can be all things to all people. And at the moment it does seem that it is oriented towards the MySpace/Habbo crowd -- the space that Raph Koster is quite interested in, judging from his blog.
That may make business sense, but such places tend to become a big ball of stupidity. It would be a pity...
