in Starbucks, coffee and music on billso.com
I definitely see the cacheing the more popular things onto localized edge servers, as the Starbucks crowd tends to lean towards the poppy end of the music pool.
But, I'm really hoping for was this: (Gizmodo)
Because I don't need to explain what I order to anybody and it charges my card automatically (which I already use as is). Also, I've experimented with the iTunes store via the iPhone and the interface is there, ready to be implemented. They could even take things one step further by having iPhone users use their iTunes Store account to pay for their drinks (seeing as how the account needs to be linked up to a credit/debit card).
And I don't think this would be a few people, have you seen the amount of people carrying around iPhones/iPod Touch? Especially the under 30 and teen crowds. They would be the perfect market for this as they would be the market to embrace this fully.
This also would make the recent decision to use AT&T as the wi-fi provider make a lot more sense. That would also explain the decision to allow free wi-fi for Starbucks card users. Maybe you could link up the card to your acocunt on the Touch/iPhone?

in Shareholders may bring Microsoft and Yahoo together on billso.com
Also, word is that in the News Corp. deal that Yahoo will be folded into the MySpace franchise.
If there's anything that I need to avoid, it's the prospect of "mY!space."
The logical collaboration would be AOL/Yahoo, because the combined web presence of both could rival the ubiquitous G. I do have to say though, unless they come up with a SaaS web program as savvy as the gMail/google docs/gCal EVERYONE is dead in the water.

in Who wants to buy Motorola’s mobile phone business? on billso.com
Like you said, this would have made sense in 2004, when Moto dropped the best selling, handset in the world, the RAZR.
Then... they released one for every carrier, and that went over well.
Then... they released like 50 different versions of it.
Then came the Moto ROKR, signaling the beginning of the end.
Then the shoddy quality of the remaining releases in the line (PEBL, etc.)
Then the whole mess with the Sidekick Slide battery. Moto's fall from grace is only equaled in utter crappitude by Chevy Chase's fall from superstardom.
Fletch = original StarTAC
Both are great works of art, ahead of it's time, still pined for (as is evident by Kevin Smith trying to get the Fletch franchise going again) and, unfortunately, can never be duplicated.
Moto fell off hard, but if someone can revive them the same way Lenovo redid the ThinkPad, then there's hope for them still.

10.5.2 is essential for upgrading. definitely a lot more stable than 10.5.1
i've also noticed that there's the ability to turn off the transparency of the menubar. which is a good thing because that thing drove me nuts.
also, menu options in the finder seem to be a bit zippier as well. still not a fan of the dock/shelf, but i'm growing to tolerate it.

in The modular mobile phone on billso.com
The concept behind the modular cell phone is an interesting one, but there is one fatal flaw behind it all: that means I have to carry around more stuff.
And God help us all if we happen to lose the media player or the GPS module for it. Again, the article does start that modu isn't even going live until 2009, so I'm sure they'll find a work around for this.
The thing that has got me the most interested in MWC is the android prototypes floating around. Gizmodo has a nice video displaying the UI:

I got nothing but love for google and hope that they can figure out how to make this work. Open platform cell phone FTW!

OH, one more thing...
Adding billso.com to the iPhone homepage also leaves a very nice home screen button.
You know, for those interested in that type of thing.

Hey Bill, checking the mobile site on the iPhone... commenting from the laptop.
The site is a little on the plain side, as you mentioned, but still very usable. Loads very quickly on the iPhone, even on EDGE, so that's always a plus for those times I'm checking the site in class...
... I mean, when I'm at work...
... I mean, when there's no wi-fi connection to speak of. Yes. That's it.
Also, the site defaults to the mobile site on the iPhone, I can't get to the desktop version, even if I explicitly type in billso.com
Otherwise, works like a charm.

in Starbucks dumps breakfast sandwiches, looks ahead on billso.com
As a former barista, I can attest to the fact that those breakfast sandwiches were a horrible idea. It took the concept of the coffeehouse and added the breakfast feel to it. After it's initial launch, there were more than a handful of customes that hated the idea because the food took away from the coffee smell, something that they looked forward to on a daily basis.
And, for the professional looking for their "fix", you do NOT mess with their coffee smell.
