Mac people want desperately to be in the cool club and are willing to pay twice as much to be there.  It's like any "cool" product, the difference in quality, if any, is never even close to worth the markup you pay for the "cool" product name.  I still love Mac from a design aspect and if I wanted to buy a piece of art to put on my coffee table, I would definitely go with them.
