It was Toot's show, sitting on a high stool, the jazz harmonia great masterfully bending and honking notes within his adventurous improvisation on jazz standards, such as "How High The Moon". He had a great time playing. Toots joked, "I'm from the Lower East Side of Brussels". Oscar is from Brazil and Kenny Werner, on piano, was representing Brooklyn -- they're quite the international trio, playing like brothers. Jazz without borders. The wonderful, playful music was enjoyed by a happy lunch-time crowd and the WBGO radio audience. It was a real Downtown treat.</img>

Jack Ingram left his "Beat-Up Ford Band" in Texas but brought his beat-up Taylor guitar and performed a Billy Joe Shaver song and three of his own, including "Wherever You Are", currently number 11 on Billboard's Country Singles Chart. Bringing the denim look and wide sky images of West Texas, Jack personably joked with the appreciative audience, "it's a lot different coming to New York to open for Sheryl Crow than to come up here to play an in-store, but I'm glad to be here playing music for ya'll". Jack commendably honored his scheduled J&R; appearance even though his joint concert with Sheryl was postponed to June. I was glad to have this taste of Country in the middle of a downtown workday.</img>

This is what it's about! Amazing jazz! These four skinny kids in their twenties gave this jazz lover in his sixties a thrill of a lifetime! They played intricate, witty ensemble music with passion, humor and adventure. They raised the roof! They had so much fun playing, they even blew each other away. Wow! in the middle of the workday, a Real-New-Yorkers-Know treat!
