in We Shouldn’t Feel Guilty for Following Edwards Scandal on The Washington Independent
If it is human to be "predisposed to scandal and tragedy, to real drama and the great falls of man" and reject the societal value of privacy in one's own affairs, it is certainly more human for a male to reject the societal "values" of social and sexual monogamy.

in Vanity Fair Spoofs The New Yorker with McCain Mock Cover on The Washington Independent
Actually, this lacks humor. The only redeeming quality of this "satire" would be that it is satirizing the east coast liberal elite who believe the have the monopoly on intellectual humor.
You can't satirize something without having some representation of the "victim" in the satire itself.

Ahh, the continued rationalization of poor taste by saying "if you don't get it, you're too dumb anyway." No wonder northeastern elite liberals are such an easy target for conservatives, because the smugness is offputting to the rest of us.
Further, this column is in fact, an ad hominem attack on those who fail to see the satire of this. Satire is, according to Merriam Webster: "A literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule and scorn". What vices and follies are held up to ridicule and scorn? The imagination of those not ready to elect a black president? No, instead it is the Obamas that are portrayed.
At best, it's a burlesque, which ridicules through grotesque exaggeration, but even there, it's easily just as easily seen as the Obamas being ridiculed.

Fantastic.

Wait,
Are they being charged because of their role in the subprime meltdown? What was their role in it?
I thought it was for defrauding investors by lying about the extent of the meltdown to those investors.

in Joe Lieberman, Are You Really Going to Make Me Capitalize The First Three Letters Of Your Last Name? on The Washington Independent
Lieberman believes in occupation in order to suppress Arabs. He is a strong supporter of the settlements and occupation of the West Bank, and of all military action against the Gaza Strip. Why should the desire to further emasculate and dominate Arabs surprise anyone?

Everything is about making money. Socialism at its finest. Not socialism of labor... that's anti-American. Rather, the socialism of capital... the pooling of resources to increase the overall power of those in control of the capital.

Umm, if the Navajo have no problem with stringing the power lines, it's the least the government can do for them. If it were just about expense, rural America wouldn't have electricity or phones.

in FISA Battle Is More Politics than Policy on The Washington Independent
It is amusing to me how, under the auspices of national security, Americans will give away their rights. Yet these same Americans will not, under any circumstances, allow the government access to their money in order to actually make the nation more secure.
I guess that means civilian rights are worth less than money.

OK seriously, we can supply power practically anywhere in the country that needs power. Are you saying that we can't get power to the Navajo Nation? Are the Navajo standing in the way?
It's the least the country can do to ensure power is supplied.

in What is Leon Wieseltier Talking About? on The Washington Independent
Isn't TNR virulently pro-Israel, and right now, the meme on Obama is that he is only pro-Israel and not fanatically pro-Israel? Obama believes in US interests first and supports Israel where they intersect. Isn't that how American foreign policy is supposed to be?

in Clinton Claims Better Housing Plan on The Washington Independent
This is what happens when the society shifts from looking at houses as "homes" and instead looks at them as investments, and everything is about money rather than the community.
