in Free Heat From An Old Window And Some Soda Cans. on EcoTech Daily
As Matt said half cans with the open side towards the sun might be more efficient.

Also if the cans are touching the window the box can be made significantly thinner, stick some wood/paper/whatever behind the cans to hold them in place and you don't need any duct tape to hold the cans in place, plus it works as insulation. But it'll be annoying cutting the cans in half.

in Kelly Clarkson is the music chart princess - Iraheta imitates her! on sassyqarla
Allison actually reminds me of Ruby Rodriguez. Has anyone else noticed the resemblance?

Btw, have you seen Kelly's national anthem performance at the new Yankee Stadium? Awesomeness.

Peace to all!

in 300 MPG Or Conspiracy Theory? on National Motorists Association Blog
I don't doubt about the 300mpg, if it's an electric motor and the ICE engine recharges the batteries then you must also consider the time passed in traffic jams where no gas is wasted since it has some 60 miles on pure electricity.

It also seems aerodynamics are a taboo subject for the automakers, I mean what the hell were they thinking with the Hummer, it's as if you wanted to make a drag race and deployed the parachute before the start signal.

Also the $30'000 is the price you pay in the beginning, but you'll probably have it back pretty quickly with the gas prices trough the roof.

So 300mpg in city in relative quietness since it's only a small engine and the main one is electric, is completely worth the price. But on highway I doubt it will get that mileage, then what... maybe 200mpg?

in 20 Asian movies you must watch… on Jay's Brainfart
I'll take a look at Casshern, sounds like a nice post-apocalyptic sci-fi mixed with anime. I saw Audition once... the scene where she slowly inserts the needles while making that sound... I don't like that film.

in Ron Paul on Will Wilkinson
I think that Ron Paul's nationalism is not such a bad thing. My thinking is that if he gets close to implementing all of the policies he wants, he should begin to see that the degree of free trade he is advocating is largely indistinguishable from a much freer immigration policy.

Somehow, I doubt that one presidency (I hope) will be enough to move American national policy to the point where it matters one way or another.

I haven't thought about this before, but it's really odd that US allows guns when it's at war against terrorism... I mean... come on.

in Why BitTorrent Inc. is no sure bet! on Futuristic Play by @Andrew_Chen

You are wrong about the bandwidth thing.

Sure, it is possible for someone like Youtube to exist at all nowadays, which is amazing (well, exist in that their site is still there, even though they were bought). That doesn't mean that it isn't insanely expensive to run, however.

Using some sort of peer-to-peer distribution mechanism should be able to decrease the cost to distribute by an order of magnitude - a not insignificant sum.

The thing is, this will only work _BETTER_ the cheaper bandwidth gets.

The problem right now is that most peoples' connections are too anemic to mean much, even when banded together.

If network speeds everywhere increased by 10x, peer-to-peer would be in much better shape to compete with centralized distribution.
