Wow, thanks for the great coverage. Glad you were 3/3 on the Mux.... we are coming out of beta shortly, and are happy that we've gotten most of our bugs nailed!

Most importantly you got the point that working with video online should be simple and fun. We wanted Mux to be used and love by our youngest nieces and nephews to our oldest grandparents.

This is an interesting hack in that it actually isn't converting the FLV from the YouTube server, but instead switching it out for the H.264/MPEG-4 that YouTube is apparently generating for all posted videos. This won't work on any Flash video, only the ones served by YouTube.

Mux has a bookmarklet that should work on the iPhone: http://mux.am/bookmarklet.jsp
(set the video output to MPEG-4 or M4V)

or you can just copy and paste any link to the form on http://mux.am

What Mux does is grab any FLV or other video link, then converts that into the right format. More intensive, but ultimately not dependent upon the video hosting service to provide the video in your format.

We've implemented this at Cruxy here: http://cruxy.com/videositemap.xml

Curious to see how long it takes for us to start showing up in Google Video search results!

Appreciate the mention... as for our delay, lets just rack it up to a "series of unfortunate events". We've had code running in alpha since the event way back when, but other priorities and projects came up.

In terms of the application being very simple, we agree.

However, the real difference between Cruxy and other "share your media" tools is that Cruxy.com is a marketplace, where we provide tools for buying, selling, promoting, and analyzing your visitor traffic. For the aspiring creative talent who is our core userbase, this is a real differentiator from a Kyte.tv or Facebook Video.

Overall, we do agree that we need to take the Facebook application's functionality up a notch to really make an impact on the average Facebook user. We are also proud of the seamless feed events moving from Cruxy to Facebook, the ability for our player to resize itself within your profile, and the one-click "add this player to your profile" capability which we have implemented today.

Crash Test Kitchen, featured in Time's Person of the Year "You" coverage, runs on Blip, too: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,917...

On top of that, Blip's even figured out how to do automatic crossposting to MySpace, a service I've not seen elsewhere.

Overall they have a fantastic platform with a solid, powerful, and friendly user experience on top of it.
