in marriage on Weddings and Travel
I always said I would never get married and then my husband came along. And it wasn't this magical, swept me off my feet, head over heels, crazy romance. I just realized that here is a guy that I can actually stand for more than a few minutes. He is smart and independent. We can talk and have different opinions with out it affecting how we feel for each other. We were more realistic about what a marriage is and the kind of work it entails.
We got married because we realized that we wanted to be together to share our lives with each other. I wanted to have someone who not only supports me but can give me another point of view on an issue. Someone, whom I know may not always like what I am doing but loves me for having the ability to do it. Someone whom I can see myself with in 20 or 40 years still sharing our lives with each other.
Besides you can get some really good tax breaks and other benefits from legalized marriage.

My husband I have been together for almost 6 yrs. We knew within 6 months of dating that we were meant to be together since we were both involved in other serious relationships previously. We were married within a year and half of meeting

The best fest was two years ago. The bands were Egypt Central, Papa Roach (fantastic), Daughtry, and Hinder. It rocked all night. Last year, there was nothing like that. It leaned too far into heavier stuff. I like Disturbed but the rest I didn't care about.

in A Weekend with Messianic Jews on Dale Fincher
You know, Jonalyn, I cannot for the life of me figure out why Christians have a hard time accepting Messianic Jews. I think it is wonderful that they have the courage to risk rejection from their fellow Jews to follow Yeshua, the one and only Messiah.

Speaking of Yeshua, I love that name. It is so beautiful!

Thank you for sharing this with us.

I think I am gonna hop on your bandwagon! I may throw some novels in the mix, but I think reading a new book every week will be such a great thing for me! Thanks for inspiring me!

Jonalyn,
What a beautiful tribute to your husband! It is truly amazing how God brings people together to complete each other and also to learn what it means to love sacrificially.

God Bless!

in On being an atheist conservative on The Atheist Conservative
I found both your article and your blog incredibly reassuring. Being a conservative atheist seems like a rather lonely path: pretty much everyone I know is either religious and conservative or atheist/irreligious and liberal, and I was beginning to think I was alone. Thanks for the blog, and keep writing.

Jonalyn,

I LOVED this article! These women are such an encouragement to us in that God gives people a second chance. I wrote an article on my blog about Bathsheba (linked below) and what a blessing she has been to me.

Have a good day,

Jonalyn,

Interesting article. I don't know how many times I have said that I need respect, too! To be honest with you I have never read the book you mentioned in your article and I'm sure it's good. But, I feel the same way as you do. Yes, my husband needs respect, but so do I. Yes, I need love, but so does my husband. Enough said.

Have a wonderful day!

in Getting Out Of Getting In Your Own Way on DealFatigue
Really good points - reminds me of a line from "Postcards from the Edge" when Delores says, "How do you expect to get anywhere in this business if you don't show up?" (Hope I didn't misquote - it's been a few years!)

in An Inkling for Jane Austen- Part I on Dale Fincher
I found this post to be quite interesting. Especially the part about how we need to put on a happy face at all times. I don't understand why churches make the impression that this is how it is to be.
The Bible doesn't teach a happiness Christianity. It does teach that we are to have joy, but, that is something quite different.

I sincerely hope that we as women don't convey that message to other women. What am I saying? To be quite frank, I believe that is exactly what we're doing (even if we don't mean to). We should be each others biggest cheerleaders and yet, we seem to be the biggest critics.

Anyhow, just thought I'd share my thoughts.

in Herb Chambers complaint, commentary & update on The Cosmic Tap
Wow! I've been scared away from HC's.
What comes to my mind while reading these entries is that people (when they are burnt out) can become callous and inconsiderate and rude - - and that some jobs are "thankless". For example - I've worked as an in-patient nurse for several years and the job can be very rewarding, but it can also be equally frustrating. I guess it stems from dealing w/people when they are in crisis, fearful, etc. For what it is worth, I get some of that from these entries, but anyway, customer service jobs can be tough jobs, no 2 ways around that. Also - I think some of what goes on is just theatrics. . . for example, when a sales rep yells at and berates a customer as they are leaving the store - WTH, how can that be anything but pure theatrics. . . we are only talking about cars here. . . it's not life and death. Anyway, I'm in the market for a certified used mercedes benz wagon, I live in Rhode Island, if anyone knows a good dealer to use. I'm willing to drive a couple of hours if needed.
Cheers!

Tip: My mother actually set the clocks by 5 minutes early so I did not know she had brainwashed me into knowing it was TIME to get up.

Fortunately setting the clocks early has helped me have an edge in getting up early even now!

in Intangible Religious Benefits on Tony Steward Blog
I'm assuming that this was on the bottom of a contribution summary? They have to put that on there so that you can write off the full amount of your tithe/offerings on your taxes. Otherwise you have to subtract the value of any tangible goods or services from your tithe/offering thus decreasing the amount you can claim. :)

in Cox Cable Customer Service = Incompetence on Tony Steward Blog
I've used both Time Warner's cable internet and Cincy Bell's DSL. I like them both and can't really tell a difference between the two. Of course, I'm not using a bunch of bandwidth like a gamer might.

On a side note, when I got cable company employeed installers, they wouldn't change the older wiring I had in the house saying that I was responsible for that. The older wiring gave us some static on some of the tv channels and slower internet speeds. We actually purchased a signal booster from Radio Shack which improved the television clarity but was too powerful for the router...I routinely blew the router and had to get it replaced. When I recently switched back to the cable company again, the outside contractors they sent changed all my cables from the main lines at the pole to my house and all the lines in my house. Things are hunky dory now.

Lurker here!

Actually, I clicked on the blogher link to your first post in the series just this morning and read them all the way through. I recently started running again (30 minutes every other day - I do time rather than distance) to feel better and look better, and was curious to see how that worked for you.

I've got about ten pounds to lose.
