in How Startups will save Venture Capital in Canada on StartupNorth
100% agree with symbiosis. The solution revolves around business performance.
Jevon made an excellent point around the timing of VC investment and that there may be an opportunity for a microfund where money goes in earlier and smaller. I would say that a fund that issues NO MORE than $500K may merit further analysis to get the VERY early tech opportunities that perhaps would never gets beyond a thought some money and opportunity to grow and develop. Some analysis is required to understdn whether having more money at very early stages (versus bootstrapping) would have any impact on success.

Really interested to find out more on this one. Why? What does this mean? Are VW investments performing worse than other VC's causing them unique problems (highly doubt it). More questions than answers from this one.

in Is Twitter losing it? on Mathew's comments
I am a relatively new user to Twitter (approx a month). I was almost entirely an IM user in my short tenure. In the past week I have found that I have I have adjusted my habits to be able to use Twitter on my laptop (although not as frequently). I write my subconscious willingness to do this to it being new to me and wanting to continue to particpate in conversations and connect with my new Twitter friends. I also know I am not yet as emotional as some posters and users are based on my newby status.
Bottom line for me, I do not believe that I will sustain the modification of my behaviours to fit the available service but will soon modify the tool (change to FriendFeed) to fit the way I want to use it.
It is new technology and it is free so I think it is fair to cut them some slack. But there is a lemming aspect to this and once some of the pioneers start moving the rest will move enmasse. Once people leave I think loyalty will build with FriendFeed and unless similiar problems occur there it will be difficult for Twitter to recover .
I hope they get it fixed in the next couple days....I am routing for them but I won't hold out much longer.

Each month we prepare a Flash Report for our Board which includes an update on the activities in each of the functional areas of the oraganization as well as brief financials and reporting against predetermined and agreed upon KPI's.
This serves two purposes for us:
-as you detailed in your great post aligning with stakeholders is critical and no one likes surprises. I would rather over communiacte and be asked to pull back than the opposite
-secondly, it stimulates a great discussion on what our "stuck points" are Understanding and articulating where we may be stuck allows us to ask and our stakeholders to offer to assis with relationships, areas of expertise, etc to get us "unstuck" (very technical term) and on our way
Great post and a big beliver in communicate, communicate, communicate.

in Gary Will: Waterloo startups finding money close to home on Gary Will
I guess I'm somewhere in between on this one. Entrepreneurs should get funding from the best available resource for them and their unique situation no question BUT I think we as entrepreneurs and the VC community on mass could do a better job getting together to try to facilitate Canadian VC's meeting the dynamic needs of Canadian entrpreneurs and making it so that so of the things that make angels and US VC's attractive to some are addressed. I wrote more in my blog if anyone is interested.
