that's crazy exciting! I had an op to do an exchange semester in Russia in architecture school, but the hubby (now ex-) wasn't too thrilled. I pouted, but later got the low-down from the students who had gone, and I'm glad I didn't. I got my lumps in the military, thank you, didn't need them again.

take a super huge memory card for your camera!!

get the headlamp that comes with a red or yellow filter option. those don't ruin your night vision, and are much more palatable to co-campers.

I felt you on this one. Back in 2003 I had to buy and replace my car battery while it was parked along the sidewalk in russian hill. Fortunately, on a street too steep to get much foot traffic past, but it's still weird to do all that stuff right out in the public eye.

for me, it's riding my bike through SF more. I occasionally do, and always recognize that unless I do it more, it'll never be the comfortable experience that I wish it to be. Not unlike your cello, I HAVE the tools, I just need to USE them.

I want to make my own 'bust' to custom fit my clothes to. I know the procedure - all you need is an old floor-mount lamp stand, some duct tape and an old, snug t-shirt - but I need extra hands (and a compatriot who can keep a straight face and measurements secret!) to do so. Then, you just hang your clothes on the bust, pin and alter. *snap* *snap*, DONE.

So... where do we find the old lamp stands..?
