It's been said before and I'll say it again. I can't believe that we actually have to have this discussion again and again in this profession, but it seems that we do.
When I did my undergrad in engineering, it was pretty much understood that what you learned in school would pretty much be obsolete 5 years after graduation, and so it was up to you to maintain your relevance in the profession. Doctors, lawyers, accountants are no exception. Why is that our profession seems to think that it is the exception - the one profession that doesn't need to keep up? Do people not get that we are a profession? Do they not understand what it means?

I have to agree. How does it look to the outside world when a manifesto includes such statements as 'I will not fear Google...'. Could you imagine walking into a doctor's office and seeing a note on the wall reminding him/her to keep up with the latest technologies and to not fear change? Have we forgotten what it means to be a profession?

in Google Answers - Discontinued on What I Learned Today...
I'm not surprised that Google Answers failed. This sort of thing was tried years ago with InfoRocket and some other ventures (unfortunately I can't remember any names at this time). They all went nowhere. It's hard to compete when libraries offer better services for free.

You are so right, Nicole! The biblioblogosphere is starting to look a lot like Stars Hollow - at least from the comments on that post. Maybe we're all taking this whole L2 debate WAY too seriously.
Call it Library 2.0, call it what you want, or don't call it anything at all. At the end of the day, we all have the same goal - to make libraries better - and we're all in this together.
P.S. Gilmore Girls is a repeat tonight. It's been like what, a month since they've had a new show?
