in What iPhone 3’s Voice Memos actually sound like (not bad!) on Tod Maffin .com
Given that the app is called "Voice Memo", Apple has given great value in the same way that Notes allows us to make short notes (I wouldn't write an essay with Notes). If you need to record 48 minutes, there are many audio recorders that are designed specifically for that purpose and are amazingly affordable.

Wow! The audio quality is very good. However, the conversation is between me (Mark) and Paul Lyzun (videostudentguy.libsyn.com). I do agree that Tim Coyne's show is a must listen. Paul's isn't bad, either. :)

in Was that conference 'worth it'? on The Daily Boo
Great discussion over the last few days, Bryan. It reminded me of an exchange I had before PAB09. So I posted my thoughts on what makes PAB unique in a sea of social media and new media conferences at http://www.markblevis.com/what-makes-pab-unique/.

Thanks for Daily Boo. It's a great show! (not just because you've dropped my name a few times)

in Gary Vaynerchuk - You Down With ROI?…Yeah You Know Me ROI. I am... on Gary Vaynerchuk
Because magazines cater to niches, offer content that has depth and substance and have a lot of committed eyes, I'm not sure I agree that magazine ads are going to lose their value anytime soon. I'm sure that the ROI on magazine ads remains strong and will remain strong for a good while, yet.

The other advantage of the Internet over the television? Consumers don't have to replace their computer to watch a new video format -- start putting away money to buy a new digital television or an analog-to-digital converter if you plan on keeping up.

Okay. This is nothing short of brilliant. With all of the travel I have done of late in which I have observed everything about carry-on luggage that you've described, your solution would make the passenger experience more comfortable and less frustrating.

Take it to the top, Chris! Start with United Airlines. With the way they're mishandling themselves, they need all the help they can get.

Thanks a million for your kind words and support, Bill. PAB is really a labour of love that has attracted a lot of new support and interest as a result of this year's conference.

Bob, Cat, Andrea and I really appreciate your continued support and feedback. Here's hoping we connect before PAB2009.

in 5 things you must have to attend conferences from your couch on Dave Delaney : Dave Made That
Great notes, Dave. I'm glad you were able to attend and engage remotely. This year's backchannel was extremely productive and I'm glad for folks like Chris and others hat made it possible ad kept it active.

Next year, Dave, you can grab a seat on a couch at the front of the real conference room.

Dave Delaney Thanks Mark. I intend to be front and centre on one of those couches.
Speaking of, was that your idea or the hotel's?

Cheers,

This Jolt, like the other Jolts and speaking sessions at PAB2008, is brilliant! Thank you so much for your contribution. We all left the conference inspired and motivated.

For those of you concerned about the audio... note that audio recordings from the PAB2008 sound board will be released over the summer at the Canadian Podcast Buffet.

in Podcasters Across Borders 2008 Review on Christopher S. Penn's Awaken Your Superhero
Thanks being part of an amazing weekend, Chris. My head is still spinning from the conversation this weekend and I think a lot of people are going to be making changes to their social media approach.

Thanks, also, for the great group photo. That's one of my great takeaways each year - that family feeling.

in If you have any interest in podcasting you NEED to be here on Dave Delaney : Dave Made That
You've been a significant player in the PAB community since its inception and you will definitely be missed this year. We'll toast you and all of the other veteran PABsters that aren't able to make it this year.

Thanks for the props and amazingly kind words.

in Upcoming Speaking- A Busy Few Weeks on Chris Brogan
Hey Chris! We're very excited that you'll be at PAB this year. You, Bob (Goyetche) and I will be collaboratively delivering a workshop on video production techniques and the use of video for community building. It will be nice to collaborate with the two of you, again, since our first collaboration at PodCamp Toronto 2007.

See you soon.

in Is Your Community For Sale on Chris Brogan
On reflection, selling your blog is one thing because it is the personality of the content on your site that makes the community. A Twitter community is like a rolodex and selling that seems like a local business selling my contact info to marketing agencies.

in Is Your Community For Sale on Chris Brogan
I feel that communities are not ours to sell -- not unless we've been transparent when making it possible to sign up. It's a breech of trust.

Speed Mentoring? What a great idea! I'd like to hear more about how that was organized, how it was received and what the results were.

in Thoughts for Future PodCamps on Chris Brogan
Joel... I agree. Numbers are not a guage especially since it's a significant challenge for the organizers to make a reasonable guess on real numbers versus the registration list. Food in particular becomes a challenge, as does over planning the necessary space.

I believe that the 'local PodCamp' is very much the future of the event. Verticals are also a model that screams success.

In November, 20+ people gathered for PodCamp Ottawa (about 85% turnout) for a full day of facilitated campfire discussions (no podiums, no canned presentations, no projectors or computers) and one demonstration of using Audacity to prepare your show. The success of that event as a tool of real engagement of the community was the catalyst for Zero to Podcasting. PodCamp Ottawa took just a few days to plan and was announced three weeks before it took place. Small scale is easy to manage and does wonders to connect real people.

in New Media- STAND UP on Chris Brogan
Many people in the podcast community are anxious to make the move to financial gain claiming that, among other things, it will help to legitimize podcasting and new media if there is some recognized advertisers and money behind the shows.

I believe that the way to legitimize the community is to take it more seriously. Make commitments and keep them, treat others in the community as equals deserving of respect - this applies to individuals and events. Above all, I believe that we need to mix and match the business-minded, hobby-minded and community-minded so that we can harness the energy and spirit of the different groups and make the movement that much better and that much stronger.

We also must remember that podcasting isn't about technology; it's about people, the ideas and passion people have, and the expression of those ideas and passion by the people. It's a social media which means it must include social people and involved people.
