Do you want to keep the Dome around for conventions or are you advocating it's demolition if/when the Rams leave? Removing the EJ Dome doesn't seem very realistic. If this is what you're advocating, do you see more convention space being built elsewhere?

[slp -- the convention center should be evaluated to see if the dome is worth retaining for conventions. It is here already. What we should not do is commit to spending a few hundred million to update the dome for 2015-2025.]

What would happen if the lease requirements were not met in 2015? Is the city leasing the dome, and if so from whom?

[slp -- the Edward Jones Dome is owned by the Convention & Visitors Commission (CVC) and is funded through a motel tax that I believe includes St. Louis County. The Rams have a lease with the CVC that requires the dome to be in the top 25% of NFL facilities. The next renewal period is in 2015. With new NFL facilities being built the ability to meet the terms of the lease get harder and harder. If we fail to meet the terms of the lease the Rams are free to leave town, their remaining 10 years on the lease goes to a year by year arrangement.]

On the topic of street closures I'm wondering what people would think of closing Delmar to private automombiles between say, Kingsland and Skinker, while still allowing buses, cabs, scooters and bikes. While not a total closure this could allow for an expansion of the sidewalks, more room for seating, strolling etc. I think with the combination of a Metrolink stop, future trolley, and unique destinations in the Loop it would be an interesting possiblilty. Most of the times I visit the Loop I end up parking at either end and walking in anyway, who really needs the Delmar parking? As far as being a through street this would be the most difficult part of it, but you have Clayton Rd., FP Parkway, not to mention a rebuilt I-64 to channel people through this part of the city.

Critiques on the mall often focus on the buildings immediately surrounding it, but it also helps to take a look at this entire area of the city. The mall is cut off from the rest of the city to the south by railyards/I-64, to the west by AGE/SLU campuses, and is bordered on the east by a largely single use CBD. The area to the north is the only one that offers any kind vibrant urban tissue to supply life to the mall, so I think we're not looking closely enough when we concentrate only on the institutional buildings that border the mall itself.
I actually like the designers' idea of dividing the mall up into sections, but each section needs to be developed in a different manner. Perhaps the area east of Tucker remains largely open/ceremonial; and the area west, say to 18th, gets mid-rise condos, with the area west of Aloe being redeveloped as part of the re-done 22nd st. interchange.

I have to agree with JZ on this one. It seems like sometimes Metrolink tries to be both suburban commuter rail and intra-urban streetcar and achieves neither. Why should we focus on a line that makes county residents' lives easier? how about because we're a region and we depend on county votes to get the entire system built out?
To address Bill's concerns, again, one of the main points of the metrolink system is to reduce the *duration* of auto trips, especially those into the core - not to eliminate them altogether. Thus park-n-ride (or bus/bike-n-ride) will always be a major constituency of Metrolink and I wouldn't expect the southside line to be any different. Every once in awhile you may be able to do a walk-ride-walk type trip on metrolink, but it's main purpose should be to move large numbers of people large distances quickly, not getting hung up on a bunch of local stops, a purpose much better served by a streetcar or BRT line. Additionally, if downtown is going to remain an attractive place for business they need to focus on improving workers' access to the area, either through faster transit connections or better workforce housing closer to downtown. Faster transit can take the form of improved highways (though we've built about all we can in the city and most improvements are coming west of Kinshighway) or improved commuter rail, and this means a fast connection. People don't want to drive to a park-n-ride stop in the suburbs and then sit through a bunch of local stops - they'll prefer the single seat private auto trip to a suburban office location and so will their employers.

^ So-called sensible planning is tough in a democracy. You have the developer who wants his office space back, a public that wants the site memorialized, and a space controlled by various public entities vying for jurisdiction...it's inevitable that someone's vision is going to be compromised. I'm sure planning in a communist country or a monarchy is easy, whatever the ruling party/ruler says goes!
The word terrorism as applied to urban development in recent decades is of course a little too harsh - that's the point. It provokes discussion and thought. Developers don't "intend" to harm folks like terrorists do, but the cumalitive effect of thoughtless development is to degrade the landscape and civic pride in a way that no single act of malicious terrorism could achieve.

Good post Steve, I do wish cities had more housing like this - something affordable you could pick up on short notice and stay in for at least a few months. Of course now most people can get on the internet and find a room for rent in most cities pretty quickly, but not everyone has access to the internet and residential hotels are usually more centrally located. I lived in a residential hotel in downtown San Diego (the Southern Hotel) for three months, it was in a beautiful old building and was only $350/month with a shared bathroom. It was 1/2 block from their light rail line and within walking distance to numerous job opportunities. They're a great option for travellers who want to stay in a city a bit longer than they might with a hostel, or as you point out for people who are borderline homeless.
I honestly think, however, that governments at all levels try and discourage this type of housing, because it encourages a "rootless" type of lifestyle that isn't necessarily friendly to the vision of economic growth/suburban family life that politicians like. To a large extent the prosperity of our economy requires folks to be tied to their jobs, mortgages, or at least leases. Not saying it's a grand conspiracy or anything, just that the establishment obviously doesn't want to encourage "vagabonding".

The city should get rid of *all* zoning. Zoning was originally introduced to separate residential areas from polluting factories, since we don't deal with this problem anymore we should return to letting the current market and transportation forces shape what gets built. This is how the original North City that you love so much was created, and cities need to be allowed to continue to evolve without having their form restricted by some well-meaning but misguided aesthetic vision.

I've been through this area several times, both on foot and by car (hope that's enough to give my comments some cred with the thought police), and I agree the core of the St. Louis Place neighborhood should be preserved and even extended through infill. However this still leaves blocks upon blocks that could stand redevelopment. If McKee has done something illegal by harassing tenants or whatever, then that should definately be dealt with by law enforcement, but the issue of large scale redevelopment of the near north side should be very much on the table. The problem is that people seem to have their ideas about what they want “the city” to look like and nothing else will be good enough even if it brings middle class families back and stabilizes an awful neighborhood. Personally I don’t care for the suburban style houses, but the area is so bad right now and is such a drag on the city as a whole that I can look beyond aesthetics for the greater good. Besides, those newer houses are set back what, an extra 20 ft? It doesn’t make that big of a difference in the walkability of the area, just an issue of personal style preference if you ask me.

Hmm, the light industrial/warehouse suggestion is interesting, I hadn't considered it. A project that was maybe 1/2 light industrial/warehouse and 1/2 tasteful residential (not like some of the ranches pictured above, but it doesn't necessarily need to be new urbanist either...there are plenty of examples of decent infill in n. city) could go a long way to providing some decent jobs to low skilled residents, and of course the area benfits from its proximity to I-70. We need to be realistic in our expectations of how much dense residential the city can support and maybe look at mixing some uses like this into large projects instead of the knee-jerk reaction of rows and rows of new urbanist housing/retail.

I believe the tax credit in the revised economic development bill cuts the area needed for the tax credit in half, from 100 to 50 acres, that should give some more developers a shot.

The new extension works quite well as a park-n-ride commuter line, and I suspect its utility will become even more apparent when the new I-64 construction really gets going. People seem to be dissapointed that they can't walk out their front door to a metrolink stop and take it to the grocery store and back. This isn't London or Manhattan. This type of trip may be possible occasionally from places like the CWE to Downtown or vice-versa, but in large part, as has been pointed out, the point of the system is to provide park-n-ride options into the main employment centers of Clayton, BJC, and Downtown - a function it serves well. As long as this is the case I would not expect the suburban stations to be the little islands of city life that people seem to want. The real growth potential of the new line is in filling up the parking lots/garages at Shrewsbury and at I-64. If this can happen then perhaps people will have more of a stomach for the more "urban" northside-southside line.

If folks want a better door-to-door type system then a better funded/designed bus system is still the way to go.

First of all, those who are making the point about most cities having CBDs that aren't 24/7 funhouses are correct. One of the most unfortunate and wrongheaded notions to emerge in planning discussions in recent years is this line of thougt that every square inch of the city should have "street life" at all hours of the day (I blame the new urbanists), along with the one-size-fits-all prescription of Street Front Retail as the cure for what ails 'ya. I want to make clear that I'm not against retail in this area (indeed I think the master plan should stipulate buildings be updated with this use when they're renovated/rebuilt); but this is the CBD, and such places often have landscaped parks/plazas because businesses and developers like locating close to them. Like it or not, one of the main functions of city planning is to increase real estate values (not street life) in the surrounding areas, and the mall blocks east of Tucker can actually be quite successful as planned, whether or not they are teeming with people at all hours or not. My only prescription for these blocks would be to remove Gateway One and eliminate some of the cross streets to create a more contiguous space.
I like your plan for the blocks west of Tucker very much, especially the blocks between 15th-18th, which are the worst of the bunch. You may even want to look at one of the blocks between Tucker and 13th for new construction.

Very nice idea. Given the site's history, I'd like to see the project go for as many LEED points as possible through low to moderate income housing. I'd also like to know the specifics of what all it would require to clean up the site to get it ready for development. Is the soil contaminated by anything? I believe some the building foundations are still in the ground and may need to be removed. It would be nice if our Uncle Sam would partner with the city to make the land developable since they had a large hand in creating the current mess.

Picnics! Globe-trotting art tourists!...extensive landscaping!
First some credit to the Gateway Foundation, whether it's a front for a wealthy art collecting family or not, they've shown considerable civic leadership in beautifying downtown over the past several years, and this is a generous gift any way you look at it.
The bottom line is that the "urban garden" will do an alright job of sprucing up a couple of blocks that now have no function at all, particularly if the cafe is added; but the mayor is WAY overselling the plan if he expects it to be a destination in its own right, and I find it hard to believe his comment that "there is nothing really like it anywhere in the United States." Really? Outdoor sculptures? I think I've seen that before.
As far as public participation, what we/they always suggest is...outdoor art, a skating rink, ferris wheel, dog park etc. and it looks like all of these ideas are being considered on the rest of the mall.

I'd be interested to know what the parking's like on Mass, is there one large parking lot/garage, or several smaller lots? How does it compare to a place like the Loop?
regarding the four-in-one new building, this technique always seems a little forced to me; I'm not sure the mulitiple facade ruse is much better than a well designed and massed larger building. Just look at some of the gems we have in DT St. Louis that take up a full or half block. Still, with all the anti-urban alternatives available to developers, I wouldn't be too disappointed if such a building popped up in St. Louis. I agree the strip of grass seems oddly out of place, if this is really supposed to be a shopping area they should've just widened the sidewalks out to the street in case merchants wanted to set up a sidewalk display or simply to give larger groups of people more room to walk and window shop. Wide sidewalks are one of the most luxurious public spaces a city can have, looks like they missed an opportunity here but they're easily widened in the future if the area becomes more heavily trafficked.

Held without bail because he picked his son up? The article does not say that there was anything life-threatening other than the mother wanted the son held in a germ ridden environment. How easy it is to allege that the father threatened to kill her after the fact to build a case to remove him from his childs life. I am sure Hawc conspired for this outcome.

If you reversed the genders of this situation the mother would not be in jail without bail. Unbelievable...

we started slow and got lucky but that was liverpools never die attitude that i love , not that many teams have that and now we have a lot of quaility in the squad to make something out of nothing in those situations so you may call it luck but is it the same luck that utd have had for nearly 15 seasons .

im a optimist and if we had these games in any of the last 4 previous years everyone would be talking about liverpools title charge is over . Something you have overlooked we had a very hard fixture start to the season and yet were joint first .

Well, I am sorry if this happened to your son, but I hope that he learned his lesson about pleading GUILTY to the crime on the face of the ticket. The judge sentenced according to guidelines under state law, and the DMV was forced to suspend the operator's license. Its almost mechanical.

He should have plead not guilty, then retained a public defender and the attorney see if the prosecutor would deal. Even if you intend to plead guilty its often in your best interest to consult an attorney for all criminal matters.

I am sorry to say that there is probably little you can do now. Reversal of a guilty plea is very difficult.

Just remember a ticket is a lot like a contract.
Just because you didn't read it or understand all the terms, your bound once you sign it. Your bound by whats in the writing, not the verbal agreement. So no matter what the sales man (or officer) promised verbally you better get it in writing. [And even here what the officer promised wouldn't matter, your would need the prosecutor to agree to that plea - in writing)].

I hope the suspension passes quickly and all is well. Hopefully the record will be sealed once he's an adult.

I really don't get...a lot these types of posts. Why? Why are you guys so angry about this kind of stuff? And why do you harbor such blatant double-standards, if you are? I'm reading posts about a Mr. Wong search engine, griping about Asian stereotypes and caricatures, NEXT TO AN ASIAN FOOD MARKET AD WITH A NINJA! And followed up by a post of Ernie with a green card? Didn't Ernie WRITE the article about Mr. Wong? Who's the bad guy here?

I guess my point is, I fell that if you took yourself as seriously as you pretend to, you wouldn't be trifling with poor humor from vagrants. You're obviously a bright guy with a bright future.

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the blog, and a lot of posts are insightful, funny and informative. But when you guys get on the Al Sharpton platform, it's hard to (want to) keep up.

The person is wasting energy blaming themselves as opposed to seeing hope for the future. Dwelling on the past is never healthy anyway.

No. When I write something, I think about what I am writing. I don't understand why people write such gibberish all the time. I mean, look at 90% of the comments on this blog. ok so basically saying formula is "bad" for babies is WRONG, both my sister and i were formula babies because our mum's milk was "sour" due to her having toxemia with both of us. we're both smart, we're both healthy adults. i cannot breast feed, or i was told at least, due to genetic factors, and also due to having a breast reduction surgery that took out 75% maybe more of my milk producing glands.

saying formula feeding is wrong, or not fair to the baby, is also saying it's unfair to the mum. there may be certain reasons WHY the mum isn't breastfeeding, which also factors in. yes, breastfeeding IS best for a baby, however if the mum's milk is gone sour or if the baby won't latch, or if the baby throws up breast milk, there're no other alternatives.

All 3 "Weird" codes worked for me! This was Yesteday at Giant Eagle in PA. I thought for sure they would not work- they looked like customer issued codes, that Redbox gives such as cases where a DVD was damaged or wouldnt work. Also a tip for all...If you get a message "Unable to process code...sorry for inconvience" (something along that line) give the Red box machine a few minutes, and retry it- most the time they work! If a code is truly not working, the kiosks let you know with an invalid code statement. I think sometimes the redbox networks gets busy, and sometimes slows down for a short bit...in a nut shell dont give up on the code so fast!

I dont think its wrong, because they would not create free rental codes that everyone can use, if they it was. Rebox does issue one time use free rental codes. Also the intent of free rental codes is to get customers to use redbox, and to visit the store there based in- its mostly a promotional tool. Id almost be willing to bet that the stores that the Kiosks are in are probably paid for to rent by the store itself. The fact of the matter they generate store traffic. Most people probably pick up a few items at the grocery stores there in- "while they are there". Not everyone who uses the free rental codes, return there DVDs the next day, so they probably make a few dollars that way as well. Also not everyone who uses the Redboxes, use promo codes. Id also be willing to bet that there are more paying customers, then promo code users- so it balances itself out one way or another. If Redboxes was not making any money- theyd shut down the free code rentals, faster than greased lightning.

I hope Redbox goes to every street corner, and store. Hate to say it -why bother with video rental stores with poor selections, and over priced rental- not to mention disgruntled rental/store workers. Yeah Redbox does need to make SOME imnprovements (Like better stocking of titles- and carrying unrated versions of movies) but its still way better than going to video rental stores that are not open 24 hours a day. Even if you pay just $1 for a rental its still a better deal than places like Blockbuster, and Video Knights etc. I can forsee Redbox surpassing Netflix in the future- if they further expand kiosks locations. Netflix is great but there service and speed is horrible!

Don't use iPhone 3G as it's a complete ripoff in Ireland (even if the same company offers a great package in the UK), so I just use my work Blackberry as my personal phone. Surfing or social sites = PAIN.

I am, however dipping my toes into mobile broadband in Europe, where mobile networks are typically much more advanced. This morning I am gettting 3.0 megabits on my laptop (more like 1.5 - 2 consistently), where I don't have the best reception. The operator I use claims that the upgrades that are happening over the next month will allow a peak speed of 7.2 megabits. The future looks bright! The best part is that the cost is 1/3 of what it is available in the US. This still feels a bit slow, but definitely allows me to get a bit of work / play done while on the road.

I think that may of these 'misquotes' are actually 'improvements' so that the quote provides it's own context or compresses information. If you say "No, I am your father" it's harder for your audience to identify the context and so to get your point.

Similarly with "Play it again, Sam" - I see this as though the person were saying - "Remember that part where even though it's a painful memory he asks Sam to play the song again?". Quoting the whole line is inefficient and still lacks context. You could say "Play it, Sam" but the "again" does remind the listener of the context (and insures you're quoting Bogey not Bergman).

Thank you for taking the time to respond. That was written at 4am last nite when I was very tired and probably should have been asleep.

I've been giving up on ideas because their success rate isn't much better than 50%. But it has occurred to me that maybe what I need to do is to keep stopping out losers quickly but find a way to stay in winners.

But if that were the case it almost makes entries seem meaningless. I can't get my head around that, it doesn't seem right. Just thinking aloud.

I have come to realize that trading is not a get rich quick scheme, especially if you are trading a small account. I think this is more about money management than anything else. There will be losing streaks that will wipe out all your winnings if you aren't careful. I have heard many stories of people who made large returns for a year or two only to lose it all when the market changed directions. I have a coworker who quit his job to "trade for a living" in 1999 and had to go back to work in 2002 because he had lost all of his winnings. He says that he thought he had the market figured out when in reality he was just buying stocks in a bull market, it wasn't him at all. My cousin's portfolio was up 250% in spring '07 from investing in uranium stocks, and by last year had gone negative after the sector crashed. This trading is an fascinating business, that's for sure.

Also, just curious... why do you choose to day trade? It seems to me that most traders prefer intraday trading. One person told me he does it because it's easier to predict the next 60 minute move in an index than it's next 60 day move. I can see that point. Why do you prefer it?

Actually, I think the interview was very well done. How many comedians actually talk seriously about their religion on a late night talk show? Especially one few are very familiar with.

I think it's about time that we get people to joke about our Faith, laugh about our Faith. Because the majority of humans are not particularly intellectual. And the majority of humans don't make decisions after analysis. They follow feeling and instinct and others.

I play with so many handsets everyday. One thing I've realized is that there is nothing called as a perfect phone.

Does anyone want some real spoilers? I bought the book a couple hours
back? I will say this though. Someone dies in the first chapter. Harry kills
someone or something close to him in a later chapter that is before the 7th chapter. Post if you want the names of who

Twilight isn't only for teenagers!!! I'm sixteen and my MOM asked me if she could read the books I was like "SERIOUSLY?!?"

I am totally psyched for the movie and Breaking Dawn to be released!!!!!!! I think they picked the cast PERFECTLY!!!!! Kristen and Robert are the PERFECT choices to play Bella and Edward and the rest of the cast is amazing!!!!!!!!!!

shifting the twilight panel to appear first sounds like the optimal resolution. however, separating/clearing the crowds does not, because those who are interested in both (or more) films would lose out.

additionally, although i am not a tween nor am i a twilight mom, i DO love twilight and have other interests. however, having to camp out for HOURS and deal with thousands of screaming teenagers is just not my cup of tea. therefore, i will not be attending.

The original Tron was a masterpiece and far, far ahead of its time. I really didn't understand much about the movie when it first came out, as I was about 10. But watching it later in life, I could appreciate the movie for what it is. (Knowing about computers helps too). Legacy will have to be a phenomenal movie to match the original. Sadly, I'm leaning towards disappointment on this one.

There's two plot points that bugged me:

1) They didn't need to keep Reese alive. Once he was on the transport and directed to Skynet, Marcus directed John to a fake (unbeknownst to Marcus) cell number at Skynet. When John arrived at Kyle's cell, he found a T800 inside. So why keep Kyle alive? The only reason they needed Kyle was so Marcus could get John to Skynet so they could give him a fake cell number which lead him to the T800 and kill him. Kyle was completely expendable once he was on the transport.

2) How the hell did Skynet know Kyle Reese was John Connor's father? The list of people Skynet wanted to kill showed Kyle as #1. It's not until AFTER that point that John tells Marcus that Kyle is his father. So how did they know beforehand?

Just admit it English speakers that your language is receding in Africa.

I thought that at the end of apartheid the Afrikaans language would die in South Africa. But it turned out to be the opposite. Afrikaans is now more widely spoken than ever before and the de facto lingua franca.

The reason why French is embedded in Africa is because of the educational system(not patterned after the British). France endlessly donating funds while the British don't care enough about the educational welfare of its subjects.

Besides, French is not considered a foreign language in Former French Africa but rather as a language of their own. That's why the French of French Africa is far better than the English of Kenyans, Zimbabweans, etc.

As for Rwanda, it hasn't totally abandoned French. It's still official.

French is mandatory in secondary schools in Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia and it's making its presence in Liberia.

English is great danger in Zimbabwe because of what happened recently there. Th properties of the British settlers were seized. The culture of the colonizers is being despise there.

Just listen to the way the French speaking Africans talk in French and compare them English speaking Africans and you would see the big difference.

To you French is declining but haven't you learned that Egypt is a Francophone member instead of a Commonwealth member. French is ery much alive there and it's creeping in Sudan.

Most of the Eastern European countries have observer status in La Francophonie except for Romania, Moldova, Albania, Greece, Cyprus, and Bulgaria that are either full/associate member. Eastern Europeans are skeptical about English. Yeas, they do learn it because of necessity but if you ask them, they have this feeling that they don't want their language and culture to be swallowed by English. I think they have a wishful thinking that they want to restore the old days when French was the leading international language.

All I can say to you English speaking folks is be contented by what you have and don't ask for more , you wou'd lose what you have now. Anyway you have US, UK, Australia, NZ, huge portion of Canada, India(which is supposed to be a Hindi speaking country now but thabks to the Tamils, it remained English speaking), Philippines, Parts of Carribean, Guyana and large portion of Africa. Don't desire to take what belongs to others. While French only has France and its overseas departments and territories, a portion of Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Haiti, and the loyal countries of French Speaking Africa.

Let's just respect other linguistic zones like Spanish, Russian,Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese, and others because they have a language and culture of their own which they would not give up in favor of English or French.

All I can say is "Color comes in different varieties and not just one" if you know what I mean.

BTW, I have nothing against learning the English language because I myself is an Anglophile and Francophile at the same time. I fully appreciate the works of the English speaking world for the advncement of the international community. But I hate seeing you ramming English on the throat of other people. What I mean is learning a language has to be voluntary. Anyway there's no doubt is indeed number 1 but give other languages a chance to prove their worth please.

The real threat to English in Africa is not just French but Araic and especially Swahili.

French is still very much used in Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia while in Sudan and Egypt, English is less used than before.

Similarly, French is growing in West Africa and over the years it has even become the first language of a number of people there especially Ivory Coast and Gabon. On the other hand, native English speakers among Kenyans, Tanzanians, and Ugandans are nowhere to be found especially nowadays that they are putting emphasis on Swahili and less on English.

French became not just mandatory in secondary schools in Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia, Sierra Leone, and even Liberia but they are planning to raise its status equal to that of English. In fact, French is now used as a medium of instruction in these countries for math and science subjects.

The quality of French spoken by French Africans are far better than the English of Ex-British colonies. Listen to them how they speak. You can find fluent French speakers even among the less educated French Africans while in the English Africans, even the educated elite struggle to commit mistakes whenever they speak English.

But read between the lines of the article and it is clear that the boisterous play that was once a generally accepted feature of young boys' behavior is now ruthlessly curbed in elementary school by a new cadre of feminist-inspired thought police. You see, with the current state of domestic violence law it does not matter what the actual crime may or may not be, it is based upon how the woman (man) feels about the incident, in this case the woman did not feel the response was appropriate (a SWAT team for a guy hiding behind a shed?). There was no active restraining order in place. So the basis of this article is biased, as usual.

Some Facts/Thoughts:

1. Prepaid users - Say goodbye to your balance.. My advice, buy songs, games anything you can to make some use of that balance.

2.) Amp'd as an idea was great, had amazing potential, but as a whole company, really missed out on the basics. It was handicapped to begin with, as an MVNO, there is very little forgiveness for mistakes.

3.) Helio is headed in the same direction, major difference, deeper pockets and an example to learn from. (Any objections? Explain Best Buy...Radical Extremely Generous Promotions?)
--My Advice: If the unpaid A/R is getting worse, sell it off now and shift gears to fix that aspect asap.

4.) Investors (Debtor-In-Possession) had no idea how to run a MVNO. At the same token, have no idea how to sell such a complex company. Amp'd not only had a big US presence, it is internationally established.

5.) There is money/success to be made from what Amp'd started. For whomever that has that rare idea to buy the whole show, they could be in no better position. In the last 3 months, this company has been doing the right things to save itself, people breaking their backs to giving CPR to the business. buying it in this condition is the smartest thing you can do, if you have that kind of money. A fresh start with the expensive lessons learned taken into account is all you need.

7.) I would not be surprised if point 6 is what happens. The only drawback is earning the trust of not customers but the actual talented employees. The way the company went down, they lost a lot of respect, a start-up acted like a corporation way too quickly.

8.) There is no point in blaming or harping on what went wrong, the outlook should be what can be salvaged and turned into a winning situation.

I feel it would be a shame to let something like Amp'd go down and not to be heard from again. It represents so much and something admirable in the sense of it's intention. Amp'd was never started to screw people, businesses to make a quick buck. The vision was geared to be the true alternative, a revolutionized way of looking at your wireless service. It offered so much but lacked the ability to market and service it properly.

Yes there were people involved that were intricate in running this company down, but the thing to appreciate is that it was something that took these jokers to bring it down but still be the most popular MVNO.

I am not posting this to advocate Amp'd's performance as an MVNO, but give some light to the potential that is left here. Even though the people left selling it's assets having no intelligence in fully knowing it's capabilities, I hope the ones bidding on Amp'd know that this company can actually overcome some the jinx of MVNOs and be the first to be profit-able and realize all that should have been done from day one is DONE! giving up now is foolish and violating the basic teachings of Economics, (Sunken-Cost).

Regardless, they have given up and rationally there may be no future left for Amp'd as a full entity, I know through experience that there are a great deal of people that believe in Amp'd Mobile 2.0.

Other thoughts: Verizon is not really deserving of any blame, though they carry a heavy ego.

Under Sanlon's the commercial property assessments and taxes have gone through the roof. Beverly has made it hard for small business owners to stay competitive in today's harsh economic climate because of financial planning ineptitude and high commercial tax rates. Wait an see as commercial interest in the city wanes because of high tax burdon, and the city will start to look very ugly. Beverly is anti-business.

Because it seems to me that #1 is exactly the kind of conversation you'd want to have with a friend - he/she read the book, but has (seemingly) valid reasons for disliking it and offers a reccommendation of a better book.
