I'm not saying all parents do it for the reason noted, but I believe this is one more example of parents trying to have their kids have a leg up in the system before they even start out in life. And as Blue says, the pattern of "helping" your child begins. A slippery slope.

This reminds me of an old Tracy Ullman skit where she plays an upper crust yuppie parent trying to get her 3 or 4 yr old into an elite pre-school. Each child had to audition for the school administrators. The first child candidate comes out and plays a classical Mozart on the violin flawlessly. The second child is placed on top of the table and tap dances the hell out of the table. Tracy, as the mother of the third child, announces in her toney accent, that her child will be performing an interpretation of a children's classic. Her kid gets up and begins to sing "Itsy Bitsy Spider." :-)

This is so right on - not snarky, just the facts. I do think she has re-energized the Democrats as well, as I feel very fired up about getting Obama elected. We all need to do our part in turning the tide in American politics.

Sounds like an interesting film... but if the doorman died in the end, he wouldn't have the last laugh - instead he becomes a patron and has the last laugh. Reminds me of one of my mantras - living well is the best revenge.

hello, it's me stalking you again. LOL - seriously, love this post as I just ended a 17 yr old friendship for exactly the reasons you listed - the psychic energy to be w/her was too great. The interesting part is that she was the one who initiated the falling out by leaving me in a store - when only an hour before she was pontificating about passive/aggressive behavior - ironic. I chose then to end it... and her self-righteous rant she emailed me about my lack of response sealed the deal - I must admit she made it easy, and a heavy burden has been lifted out of my life - free at last!
