True, but you can pack so many more of them into your life! Kinda like those mini, applicator-free tampons. There's so much more room in my murse thanks to those. That said, with DVRs, pirates, DVD releases and the like, the product placement has become ever more heavy handed, which I admit takes me out of the story in a way a commercial break which is easier to tune out doesn't.
DAMSEL IN DISTRESS
MacGyver, the bad guys have locked us in this rugged Viking restaurant-grade, sub-zero freezer featuring plate steel construction that will turn our fresh meat into ice in under twenty minutes or your money back. How are we ever going to escape?
MACGYVER
I'm gonna need some Wrigley's Doublemint gum, a delicious Diet Dr. Pepper and four OB tampons. I have a crazy idea, and it just might work -- but only if those are applicator-free, OB-brand tampons!

As someone who hasn't cable or satellite in years, watching regular television now gives me headaches. I mean, who ever thought it was a good idea to interrupt a story for two minutes, turn up the volume, and bombard me with pitches for feminine hygiene products and tips on getting deals at government auctions? That may make me sound like an elitist jerk, and one may wonder at how entertainment will survive without millions in sweet, sweet cash from Procter and Gamble, but I am officially spoiled.

Erm, yeah, those players didn't set up a second monitor mostly to make sure GameFAQs.org and the like were always handy. What can I say, Fallout 2 would have taken the better part of six months without a walkthrough.
That said, nice essay. I'm hoping that with emergent design, things will evolve to be less procedural and more spontaneous. I was always frustrated by the fact that "real world" logic often had a tenuous connection at best to "in game logic," and when it did, it was generally inconsistent.

Happy birthday! My recommendation? Deodorant, especially now that you'll be almost exclusively obsessed with wooing your new crush.

I'd love a translation of the intro -- all I caught was "ya ni znayoo," which sums up most of the Russian I can understand. Otherwise, the video is hott!

Yeah, ever since Facebook, I've started making a habit of reading terms of service -- most share about 95 percent of their boilerplate DNA, but the devil is in the details.

I would guess a typical use would be for a "sizzle reel" type Facebook promotional bit. More worrisome would be a tie-in or co-branding with a TV show or some such (read: the sublicense part).

You're living the impossible dream! Congratulations. Thankfully, median home prices here in 'Frisco are dropping like a rock. Maybe someday...

I agree, that was a lot of fun. I thought the production did a fantastic job of pulling together a narrative arc and letting the people portray their real depth as characters, when it could have taken a much more patronizing tone and gone for cheap schadenfreude.

I'd been thinking to myself for weeks that I need to watch Robocop again. And now I shall. That said, I wonder what's up with Peter Weller these days? Might have to make it a double-bill with Buckaroo Bonzai. Cronenberg seems to have annointed Vigo Mortensen as the inheritor to Weller's sallow-cheeked, strong-jawed, ironically humorless schtick.

Saw this at the Apple Store fete, but didn't manage to catch the URL in time. Indeed, better than the original in many, many ways.

My suggestion: have everyone bring a copy of the Bill of Rights. Maybe compose a carol with the text of the first amendment! Should be all the permit you'd think you'd need.

I've heard that observant Muslims have also become fans of In-N-Out. While not strictly halal, the fact that the packaging contains biblical references is blessing enough, apparently.
I have to admit, having grown up with fast food, I still indulge from time to time. In-N-Out is definitely my preferred junk food destination.

Okay, so they remain anonymous, and not disclose their ties to companies? How do I know if someone isn't writing about their own company or project in a flattering light? And if anonymous, why not divulge insider secrets? I'm not sure I understand.
