in McCain: It’s the Process That Matters, Not the Result on The Washington Independent
To be fair to the title...Does the result always matter?
When does the process matter?
If I do well on a test if I studied that is good.
If I do well on a test if I got lucky filling in bubbles that is bad
The result of both:the same
We are talking the next President of the United States I think that everything matters even the process at which each candidate makes decisions.

Ivdragonlady,
I don't agree...while there is destruction, the benefit of war can out weigh its' costs...to just write off all war because lives are ruined and there is destruction is wrong.
Examples of Wars that were worth the cost:
Revolutionary War of America
Civil War
World War II.

Before I sound like an idiot I must say that I do believe in climate change (the globe is getting warmer) however I don't necessarily believe that there is anything that we do, are doing to make that happen.

I'm pretty young...
Was there "a general scientific consensus" about global cooling being a threat to the environment in the 1970s?

I don't "know" that there is a general scienific consensus about global warming being a threat to the environment.
If that is just me then...I guess that makes one of us.

in Dems Consider Offshore Drilling on The Washington Independent
I think that drilling is part of a fix. Our dependence on foreign oil is too much. Drilling will lessing the pressure and dependance in a couple of years. If by then we create a mr. fusion who runs of garbage, awesome...that would put those crazy oil companies out of business. If not then i could use it...If you don't better for me.

in Arizona Donors Give McCain Cold Shoulder on The Washington Independent
Some wealthy Arizona business leaders are listed in the minimum bundler category of up to $50,000, suggesting a lack of deep-pocket enthusiasm for the favorite son. These include Ira Fulton, an influential real-estate developer who has given more than $100 million to Arizona State University; Samuel Garvin, who has given $60 million to the Thunderbird School of International Management and Jerry Bisgrove, a real-estate developer whose Stardust Foundation donated $25 million to the state's leading charity.
This quote seems fishy almost like "lets pick out the rich people in the state that give and then say they didn't give much to Mccain...A question that i don't know the answer to:Did they give more to Bush? That is the point of the article...I guess it is... I just wonder did they? and how much more.

Wow...
Some of the slant that are featured in this article I see the the "granted much bigger state" I'm glad you touched it but come on how much bigger...
According to the US census bureau the estimated population of Airzonia is 6,166,318 (2006)
According to the US census bureau the estimated population of Texas is 23,507,783 (2006)
I think that these numbers are so far apart that this article can't even be called news but pure propaganda.
Or the author doesn't thinks that facts "in context" don't matter.

in Energy Debate Excludes Conservation on The Washington Independent
I understand cutting back...Currently I am car pooling and looking into natural gas conversion for my car. I don't understand the whole lets dip into the Strategic Reserve. That is as dumb as taking a home equity line of credit out to pay for your mortgage...all that you end up is deeper in the hole.
What does letting lose of the reserve oil do (left suggestion)? increase supply...
What does conserving oil do (article suggestion)? decrease demand...so an increase in supply
What does asking opec to produce more oil do (Bush did this)? increase supply...
What does building new refinererys do (right suggestion)? increase gas supply...
What does opening oil shale for excuvation do (right)? increase oil supply...
So the great question...
Is the bi-partisan movement to increase supply? or just get votes...maybe special interest money?
Does opening ANWR and OCS for drilling increase supply?

I have another point to make too.
About the president saying something...
If you read this web page you most likely hate Bush...would you even care if he said something like be sure to turn off the lights in your house so you save energy would you listen and change your lifestyle? IF BUSH said that???
What else do you want him to do regulate how much gas you saved by not going to the lake this year?!? or ration gas? If you want to pay then pay. If you don't then don't...I'm glad I live in a country where the president doesn't tell me what to do.

I wonder what reasons that the author wanted GM to move away from SUVs other than threat of bankruptcy? What if the government just forced them saying..."I know that the Japanese are killing you in the small car market, heck they are killing you in the medium car market and even the big car market...But you are rocking their world with your SUVs...but cut that out and make your crappy small cars...and let the Japanese and the Koreans run you into BANKRUPTCY.
What if the big wigs in Washington said you cut out making these SUVs or we will tax you...into BANKRUPTCY.
We live in a world or at least a country where everything is controlled by the market...if you could have convinced the world that driving a small US car was the thing to do then I guess we wouldn't be having this discussion.
Let me put it this way if I have a candy store and sell world famous suckers and the store down the block sells world famous gum...It would be dumb for me to switch to the gum business and stop with the suckers. Then let's say maybe the mayor comes to me and tells me to sell only gum...I go out of business or BANKRUPTCY.

What this article is not taking into account is the amount of these oil spills that came from drilling rigs and the amount that came from ships sunken, damaged and just in poor maintenance.
While I'm not saying no oil came from oil rigs...this is misleading to think all of the oil came from rigs.

in Defining Poverty on The Washington Independent
"Federal actions cannot substitute for federal action" I've been to New York and I have been to LA and I have been several places in between. you can't tell me that New York is a different beast. But to say that a blancket program given by those idiots in Washington can come up with some amazing program to save the poverty is silly and unrealistic. 7th of income to food now a days huh? how much goes to cable and cell phone bills? How about when you go and measure for poverty you discount stupid purchases like you spent 150 dollars on basketball shoes for your 3 kids...we're going to add 450 to your income because you spent is stupidly.
