i'm finding that wordpress makes it really clumsy to run an environment outside of the production instance--i.e. i think it keeps the "blog name" in the *database*, making it more work than it should be to run a local instance. i spent about 2-3 hours total getting my blog into SVN and getting the database setup locally, only to find out when i hit the local site, it immediately redirects to blog.isaidjon.com.
oh well. i'll run a local WP and work on a theme locally, then bump it up to "prod" i guess...

in The verdict is in: The Pownce API kicks Twitter's ass (Scripting News) on Scripting News
i vote for twitter staying *simple*. pownce confused me enough given the time i wanted to spend figuring it out that i abandoned it months ago. pownce looks more like a tumblr than a twitter.

wow. since this post, i've developed dozens and dozens of rolls of black and white film. the only time i recall screwing up is during the loading process. and these are the primary offenses:
letting light in when i shouldn't have
loading when my hands weren't COMPLETELY DRY
being fumblefingers while loading 120 film, and bending the roll

in how to develop black and white film–its super easy, don’t not do it ‘cos you think its hard on jon madison
i think most people haven't tried, 'cos they (like i had) tend to lump developing and printing together. printing takes an enlarger and a running water source (unless you want to do contact printing, in which case, from what i've read is pretty easy, but i haven't gotten myself around to doing it yet).
it's not hard; at worst its inconvenient. you gotta mix the chemicals, and find a place to store your chemicals, is the extent of my troubles...oh, well, i also have to make sure there's not a bunch of other crap in the sink when i want to develop (don't tell anyone but i use the kitchen sink, which gareth was pretty adamant about not using...he used the bathroom instead :)
if you use diafine, you'll mix two jugs of solution, then never deal with it again (seriously, diafine lasts *forever*). and it's super easy to remember--3 minutes A, 3 minutes B. and even from what i've been reading, you can shorten the B developer time to make sure it doesn't push as much! why doesn't the world use diafine? well...personal preference...but i'm not a pro, so i can't tell many of the nuances after i've developed, and tweaked them during the scanning process anyway :)
oh, and diafine just gets kinda gross after a while, too (but trust me, it's still working:)
oh, and check "dev" below, under possibly related posts. it shows a picture of all the stuff i used for my first batch.

the other way around. why? so i won't have to do it more than once. i don't care which way it goes, actually, just as long as:
a) i don't have to do things more than once.
b) i've a way to keep my posts somewhere as my own (i.e. "cache" or store the myspace posts locally, as a backup)

yeah i know right--when these things happen, i keep getting reminded of the old eddie murphy skit, regarding george washington carver & peanut butter. :)
the story of my life:
the story of my life:
"Take a peek? Man, you can have it. Who's gonna eat butter made out of peanuts? No, I'm working on a method to compress peanuts into phonograph needles." So, Professor Carver's two dinner guests.. [ Murphy removes his shades for better cue card reading ] ..Edward "Skippy" Williamson and Frederick "Jif" Armstrong - two white men - stole George Washington Carver's recipe for peanut butter, copyrighted it, and reaped untold fortunes from it. While Dr. Carver died penniless and insane, still trying to play a phonograph record with a peanut.

Dave, you make much of APIs (rightly) and the vast majority of Twitter traffic comes through their API. Rather than asking that Twitter implement better payloads, why not target this type of feature for an API-based interface?
Personally, I'd rather not see pictures in my Twitter-stream anyway, but there's nothing stopping someone from creating this feature by following links in the Twitter-stream and identifying "payload"-style content.
Sorry if I sound grumpy. I'm breaking my no posting before 9am rule :-)
