in 15 things that suck about the Palm Pre on Think Gene
I own a Palm Trio. As purchased, the software had issues. When I registered the product, they sent me the latest version(s) and all is well.
I found that bluetooth being turned on is a horrible battery suck; have it on only when you use it. Searches for cellular services can do the same thing ... anything that cause you phone to do gigaherz frequency broadcasting.
WiFi with a cell phone? Interesting.
I could not see any problem with your photos. But take not of anything near the little camera lens and deal with it if you can before shooting.

in Electronic Medical Records and Billing: Or, Why I Hate Salespeople on Think Gene
WOOFF!!! :-)
This temperment reminds me of myself when I was your age.
But ... never the less, as a result of my employment at the Genome Center as a part of the Stanford Medical School, by some horrible error, many interns registered their names in a way it connected with my home address. I get a huge amount of mail from countless organizations selling coding alert subscriptions for only hundreds of dollars, yay a thousand, per year. These codes relate to reporting to medicare for receiving payment and these codes change or get added to. There is no way to stop this stuff; the postal service tried, the medical school tried. I tried to get one of the publishers to stop sending me stuff and the only way is to stop delivery to my home address. Well, keying is not done on mailing addresses so the publishers are helpless as well they say.
This is just a little warning of the horrors yet to happen!
Yes, software engineering front end stuff cannot be avoided; you have to do this even for buying medical practice software, not for just coding it. Nothing like spending thousands of dollars and regretting it because you and Steve did not sit down and exhaustively sort out your needs. I guess you have a test data suite to check out vendors software offerings (yep, the testing phase of that software engineering thingy).
Cheers,
John C.

in Think Gene Status Update on Think Gene
Startups grow into companies and become less exciting. I have found that the best way to keep a startup like excitement going is to work in a research center. There a good principal investigations ships out grant proposals that gets grants .... it is like several startups going at once with a new one every other year. Something always interesting going on and to participate in. Robots always need programming to add/change features. Data bases and web interfaces need to be built and revised and it goes on ... until the PI dies.

Check in the last paragraph, the two sentences before the last sentence. You may want to fix these to be made more clear.

in The issue of gene patents on Think Gene
I know one thing that has been used for patent rights: National Security
National Security could include significant and or expensive health impacts that would degrade the performance of a nation in decision making, resources, and economy.
If the form of epilepsy mentioned above is sufficiently prevalent and is becoming more prevalent, this could be an example of a national security item and a more efficient form of testing would have to be made available. In this case, a non negotiable royalty, if it has to be that way, could be paid to the patent holder.
This is only something I am aware of and needs to be looked into further content wise and scopewise.

in Why DTC Genomics is Dead: The Coriell PMC on Think Gene
I feel better about this already. God knows what happens about samples sent through the mails and the variations of collection by the patients doing it themselves invite contamination.
But I will try something. I will go to my Kaiser physican and request a full genome collection and evaluation "for the record" so it would be handy for any future care. I could request the raw data to put against the databases for the functionality as well as recieve the usual medically pertainent information. I could suspect that the lab services in this case have bought rights to deal with patented sequences. I will let you all know.
My only sense of the testing services is information is private and it does not have to go into one's medical record and risk becoming a liability against applying for insurance coverage and employment.
