I really disagree with that. Myspace just wanted to be a place for musicians when they started. Remember when FOX was that cute little network competing with the three big ones? Start small, get a manageable goal in mind and then aim higher. There can only be one valedictorian, but you better believe I’d tell every kid in class to aim for it. <br><br>Now there is a difference between growth and value. There’s a great book call Small Giants that showcases a few companies that chose to be great instead of big. They all have strangleholds in their markets, smaller than they could be by choice, but add a tremendous amount of value to the customer and the employees. If that’s what you’re getting at, then yes aim lower for your market share and growth rate, but never value.

Re: Finance Tips For Small Businesses &#038; Entrepreneurs

You get a bunch of Gregorian monks together for the opening jingle? It's that value which can be used as leverage to win an account. I've seen this all the time with adserving and inventory software. It's saturated right now and the big bloggers are moving on to other things. Shoemoney is focusing on growing a big MMA website, 45n5 took off the ads and just gives great content for branding, John Chow just uses his blog for brand and sell direct ads now. The point is the time to get into this niche was two years ago when these guys were just starting to make money. Now they use the traffic to brand and sell direct. Plus, did you ever notice a kind of "icky" feeling from some of them, like a used car salesman feeling? Not all of them, but a few. I'm not sure if it's the niche that does that or the business model, but glad to see it go in a different direction.

Re: I Need You! @ BlogWorldExpo

It's for corporate bloggers. I almost feel guilty that I bought a Flip on your recommendations. Companies that do not understand what brand/product evangelism is are also missing the boat with social media. There have been enough studies done that show social networking is not chaotic and getting a positive review from an influencer with a large social network can be a tipping point for the product. You'd think companies would have seen this enough with the cult of Apple. People buy more Apple products based on recommendations from customers than any other competitor. This turned into Apple = cool so now when a new product release, it's selling itself.

Re: Your Picture in the Next FeedFront Magazine

That's either a nifty camera shot or the world's smallest dog.

Re: Want To Build A Niche Website?

I prefer openX or another adserver. As long as they are able to serve an advertisers tags through their adserver they should be good. A savvy advertiser should be using their own adserver (such as DFA, Dart for Advertisers) and have their own tags. They will give these tags to the publisher and tell them to serve it through the publisher's adserver. The ad call will redirect to the advertiser's server. This way the advertiser will rely on their own numbers for fulfillment. <br><br>However, as the industry consolidates they will need to migrate to a standard adserver and inventory tracking system. Which is good, it means they have grown and they are able to sell space to a bigger brand of advertiser.

Re: How YouTube Is Missing Out On $1.2 Billion A Year By Not Having A Business Channel

Well Google needs to figure out how to make Youtube profitable. Even though Google spends money left and right, they will want a good ROI especially in a down market. If they don't, Youtube might end up one of those stories of the second tech bubble, sold for a ton and never made a buck. Also, Jim has a very good point about integration and the universal search. Youtube videos will rank higher than another business video host company.

Re: Blue Man Group at Affiliate Summit 2008 East

That is going to be great. The audience doesn’t know what’s going on. Even Ian Fernando voted himself off the show because it had no structure and required the contestants to fund the campaigns. Just having a structure to it, not “make as much money as you can”, would be enough for the audience to look past the poor production. <br><br>How about <a href="http://Mandelback.com">Mandelback.com</a> for the Zappos contest?

Re: Get on the Magic Affiliate Bus

And now Vaynerchuk on the way back? You don't want to do business the way Google does, so what do you do? You ever see the "war room" of an online advertising campaign from the advertising side? There is a spread sheet that could wrap around the room twice with everything they are tracking. I've experienced it done well with a Geek Squad guy at a Best Buy that saved the sale from another guy I wanted to slap, and I've experienced outrageous disasters with the SBA ( Small Business Administration). To this day, I tell small business owners if they want a bunch of green college kids to critique their business plans, or get belittled by government executives then give the SBA a call. However, if you want to start a successful business then be an entrepreneur and work it.

Re: Vote for Zappos Mandals Entries

Is it just me or are people still voting?
