in Hillary’s Plan For Latino Votes In Texas: Exploit Little Mexican Boy on goodCRIMETHINK
I honestly don't see a major problem with this. Is she exploiting a kid? No question. All politicians "kiss babies" at election time.

What's more, I don't see anything particularly racist about parading a cute little guy in full folklorico regalia around the stage. You see little kids dressed up that way quite often in Latino communities where the kids learn traditional dance. It's totally normal and honestly, that's a really cute kid.

Robert, have you read this legislation. It sets up a commission. It doesn't even ban anything.

Jasonp107 That should solve it for the header, but I still have to figure out how to fix the images in my posts and in my sidebar.

I'll try that on the header though, thanks!

in iPhone vs. Nokia N95 a month later on Scobleizer
I really like how my iPhone enables turn-by-turn driving instructions. Just tap an arrow at the top of the screen when you've completed one instruction and the map zooms forward to the next intersection, while the instructions tell you where to turn and on what street.

I'm pleased to say that this feature has saved the day more than once for Andy and I.

in “Scoble’s silly,” Facebooker says on Scobleizer
"Ignore the naysayers who still try to keep the web closed like a pipe that only serves to connect two people on opposite ends of a line."

Hoo boy! Joe, I am NOT a naysayer. I've just been using Facebook for a while and I'm starting to see that its purpose has changed a lot. I guess I'm going to have to reevaluate how I use it.

"It is not, nor has it ever been, possible for you to see someone’s profile based solely on the fact that you have a mutual facebook friend.">

Pete, I dunno how long you've been on Facebook. But I do vividly remember this privacy setting existing at some point in time. I'll have to ask some of the people I know from Facebook if my memory is flawed or not on that one. I'm certainly willing to admit I'm wrong, if I am in fact, wrong. But I'm pretty sure I'm not.

"But it demonstrates that you can get gainful employment, even after taking your shirt off at an industry party!

Anyway, seriously, there’s no such thing as privacy anymore, is there? What you all trying to hide?!?"

Robert, I wonder if you'd say that about me. I've been asking that question for some time. If I took my shirt off at an industry party, would I still be respected inside or outside the world of technology the next morning?

Perhaps things have changed more than I realized, but it used to be that any hint of sexuality from a woman in the workforce was an automatic strike against her. I've tested that limit to be sure. I've posted photos and videos of myself frolicking in bikinis on YouTube, FB and even *shudder* MySpace. And so far, I haven't met with any pushback or obvious judgment. But I'm curious to see whether it will ever bite me in the ass.

I've posted more about my thoughts on this subject. Check it out if you're interested!

Hey, who am I to judge how you use Facebook? I think it's great to let people in.

But I have two points of clarification:
1) You're a man. You're not going to have random, creepy guys stalking you on Facebook. I feel like I have to be on guard against that, which is why I'm really careful about the information people can see in my profile.
2) For me, Facebook is a tool I've used for years to keep in touch with close friends who scattered after college. Now, I have a whole host of people that I know in other contexts who I am friends with on Facebook and I'd like to keep the information they see about me within that context.

I wish there were a way to create a "professional profile" so that I can share some information with people I know in a social setting and some information with people that I know in a business setting.

I wonder if Facebook is working on that.

Hi Stew! Thanks for coming by my blog the other day.

So you still want Quicksilver, even after using TextExpander. I've heard the two are similar in terms of workflow expidition. Do you think you could use both simultaneously or are they mutually exclusive programs?

in “Default” racism on Scobleizer
I think this is more race-consciousness than racism. The thing that happened in your neighborhood when you were a kid was racist. Your neighbor put enough stock in the potentially racist opinions of her neighbors to consider not selling her house to a black family.

Race-consciousness is different. It's problematic for its own reasons, but it's not inherently deplorable. I don't have any more of a problem with asking, "is Obama electable?" based on his race than I do with asking "is Hillary electable?" based on her gender.

The real problem here is the overemphasis of electability. The Democrats focused on electability in 2004 an it got them John Kerry. They need to start focusing on a candidate who best embodies the platform they want to put forth as a party.

in The iPhone reality distortion field on Scobleizer
Digital Hell: From what I understand, unlocking the phone won't be difficult, but unlocked phones operating on other networks won't support all of the iPhone's fuctions (like listening to voicemail in any order you want).

Nick: Not to be a Macsturbator or anything, but Jobs did say that one of this phone's great features was how easy it would be to change even after it was sold. I can imagine that Apple will monitor the consumer buzz and add new features that you can download via a software-update like system. If the interface is screwy, maybe they'll allow users to make adjustments based on the size of their fingers.

I'm not saying that I put my faith completely in Apple, but they really, really do get user interfaces. It's possible that they really have cooked up something revolutionary here. It is a pity that we have to wait until June to see it.
