I saw that thing, and I was concerned about the guy's mental health for a while. I mean, no one in their right mind would have written anything like that on a public page.

I DO have an idea as to who could have done it (they've done things of the sort in the past w/different people on a different site). I am an observant person, but then, it could always be a coincidence.

Edit: the above is not a plea to ask me who I think could have done it, just a statement of the fact that I have seen it done before.
Edited on Jan 3rd 2002, 18:38 by Lilith

Re: carlo.log → Dec 27th 2001, 17:25 GMT

*feels lucky*

I generally spell well without a spellchecker (never used the thing except clicking on it by accident).

Don't beat me for my spelling skills, beat my English teacher (who beat them into my head)! :P

Re: carlo.log → Jan 7th 2002, 14:23 GMT

Gossip, I read your valiant attempt (on PJG news) to stop the flaming. I thought it was a good idea, unfortunately, after reading some of the replies, I came to the conclusion that if it wasn't for some friends I am exchanging PJG PMs with while at work, I am ready to leave that site altogether--and it saddens me, as it has been my favorite for many months now.

Seems that some people come there specifically to read and write flames (or so they themselves admit in those comments). I don't like using the "tune out" feature on anyone but those who directly harrassed me without provocation (you know who I am talking about). However, what used to be a nice and informative community site, is now turning into a flamefest (as we have all noticed).

Re: carlo.log → Jan 7th 2002, 14:23 GMT

I've got to say, I've done my fair share of troll-baiting, and when I DID that, I never minded what was posted in reply (well... except for that link to a gay porn site that kramen put in his post that one time), because I DID bait the trolls myself.

However, I find that I am completely incompatible with people who flame others and seem to get off on it somehow. So I stopped baiting them. Then stopped posting almost completely. When I got abused and insulted on a thread that wasn't started by me, and was dedicated to helping newbies, I figured that I have just about had enough.

Re: carlo.log → Jan 7th 2002, 14:23 GMT

Hmmm... well, one person just commented about disney.com--I wonder if that is who you are talking about... but if so, how did he manage to get to PJG to comment on it???

Re: carlo.log → Jan 7th 2002, 09:57 GMT

Gossip likes chocolate?

Re: carlo.log → Jan 7th 2002, 09:57 GMT

Time marker on the page... not adjustment, but something to tell us what GMT time it is at any given time without having to do the math... I a science (not really computer) geek--as far as computers are concerned, I am a careful and informed user who RTFM-s and tries to not do stupid stuff to the computer.

In high school, it was not fun at all (cheerleaders were the queens of the female HS population), but in college it got better. Now I work with a bunch of other science geeks, and plan to go to school (for a Ph.D.) in a year or so with a larger bunch of science geeks. Moreover, most of my friends (and my ex-fiancee, don't ask) are science and/or computer geeks as well.

Not all (male) geeks wear huge glasses and suspenders, and none that I know pick their noses. Most of them are young men who read, and have brains enough for an interesting conversation. A lot of them are nice-looking and well-sociallized.

Speaking of which, FS_Falcon_ (Fatal Shadows leader in JG and out) is a really good-looking guy with a wife and two cute kids (I saw a picture). He also calls himself "King Geek". With pride, I must add.

I, too, am glad we are evolving. :)

Re: carlo.log → Jan 11th 2002, 11:52 GMT

"Users now browsing this site" list? I will miss it, but it is your life and you being happy with what you do in your free time matters more than a game fansite.

As to JG survival--I dislike playing a doomsday prophetess (and that is how I usually end up sounding), but as Trip said, it IS up to the community, and only them. The sad part is that the community is not the same as it was in beta, and frankly, it has lost my respect for the most (not all, but most) part.

Too many of those who cared and mattered left it, and while there are many new fans, most of them don't know the first thing about JG (not even silly things like who Lothar's landing belongs to). The atmosphere is not the same, and a lot more things are accepted and taken as normal in the game that should not be.

I am not going to make this a long rant, so basically--I don't think the community is what it was. I don't think it will survive unless new leaders step up, and I don't know anyone who would/could do it that still plays the game.

Carlo, I wish you all the best, and I will still be around here, and bug you otherwise of course. :D

JG brought me a number of good friends and it's a shame that most of them walked out of the game for reasons similar to why I don't play myself anymore. Nevertheless, it's been fun and I am grateful to ND, since indirectly, it was their doing that we all met.

Re: carlo.log → May 14th 2002, 15:20 GMT

Noticed that earlier, looks pretty cool, though I still use the left-hand column to see recent entries. (Which may just be a fact of life.) A lot of people who call themselves patriots, really just confuse what you defined and waving the flag around in pride from the safety of their front porch (the latter is not really patriotism by any definition that I know).

I am going to be honest here, and this may sound rather bad, but at least I am honest with myself.

By the virtue of being a selfish person, I am not at all patriotic towards US (even though I live here), and somewhat so towards Israel (I would go back if I was drafted and needed in the armed forces to defend the country, that's about the extent of it).

Laying my life on the line for other people is just not something that I honestly, deep down, believe in. I am pretty sure I would do it to prevent something of global proportions (nuclear war, things of this sort), or even the destruction of Israel as a country. However, I don't believe in getting killed to save someone unless that someone matters to me personally. Why? There is a simple reason: who said the life of another person is more valuable than mine, unless I believe so (and I do in the instance of several exceptions to the rule)?

Patriotism would have to be readiness to lay one's life on the line for any of you own countrymen, according to Fanboy's very clear and intelligent definition. The question I want to ask them--are those people worth it? For me, the country as a whole--yes. The world as a whole--definitely yes. Some of its people--I don't think so.

Re: carlo.log → Jul 1st 2002, 10:37 GMT

Yummy.

Re: carlo.log → Jul 1st 2002, 17:47 GMT

Can't check from work--no sound here. By now they know me and my brother and always greet us and tell us what's good among the piles of stuff they have, and what's so-so, and what's new and what they will have the coming weeks.

And they are onto our passion for pears and plums and apricots! :P

Nice feeling, definitely--for me, especially since it's the city market and there are a LOT of people there on late Saturday mornings, but they remember us. Of course, we DO come back to them every time we are there. :)

Re: carlo.log → Jul 3rd 2002, 08:24 GMT

Pre-recorded telemarketing is very common here in USA (and VERY annoying). There are two ways to get through it--one is a phone service offered by most telecoms--"Privacy Manager" that does not let any unwanted calls through, and another--hanging up on the goddamned thing.

I put myself on the "No-Call" list and that reduced the volume of the annoying telemarketers considerably. It is also nice to scare the real ones with the words "you know I can sue your employer for you calling this number off a no-call list, don't you?".

But yea, the recorded ones are the pits--all you can do is hang up, since you can't satisfy your annoyance by yelling at them before doing so.

Re: carlo.log → Jul 2nd 2002, 10:23 GMT

ROFL!!!

Quote off somewhere on the net (can't give proper credit as I don't remember who this belongs to):
[Quote] "I see that you are writing a letter... would you like me to bollocks it all up for you, or just go to hell and leave you the fuck alone?" [Quote]

Re: carlo.log → Jul 5th 2002, 14:54 GMT

*slowly backs out of something that sounds fascinating but utterly out of my area of expertise*

Ugh, that Pascal course I took years ago is getting to be not enough to understand general computer programmer chat.
