in Ok, I’ve had it. on Klatergoud
Hi Rik,
and thanks for sharing your ideas and thoughts with us here beyond the 140 characters limit we usually seem apply to our dialogues ;-)
Essentially I do fully agree with what you are writing here and we're pretty in line with each other (I dare to include @roscamabbing here as well ;-)
After all what annoyed me most at Seth Godin's blog posting is that is neither doing 'Business' nor 'Design' a favour with his statements. By the same logic you could criticise BW's Nussbaum for his sort of naive ranting on what 'Great Design' can do to mankind ...
Therefore the advice he's giving does not help a Manager to decide anything design related as he gives no hints at all what shall be 'measured'. Certainly most of us know what he actually wants to say, but this is exactly the problem of 'Design' or 'design': 'Design' without any clear objectives and variables (aka 'process') to be measured is simply 'Art'. 'design' that is not the based of the same 'process' is simply gut driven action.
For 'Design' or 'design' to add value it takes more than 'four distinct states' to pitch for relevance and authority ... unless you're Seth Godin ... maybe!?

in Innovation vs. transformation on Klatergoud
Good point you are making, Rik! Even though I'm wondering if Nussbaum will reply ;-) To push it to the extreme for me very often these discussions and moaning that one term got overused and more importantly 'misused' by the 'wrong' people do not lead to anything. In that sense the your last word 'nailed it' (greetings to Erik! ;-): DOING!

Haha, well at least the bunch of comments led him to write a new post
clarifying his point.
I agree that doing is more important than academic babble, but at the
same time I think this discussion is about the handles for doing:
transformation has different/more tools than innovation.

But still, we should not want people to 'do design any favours' but just prove that it works by practicing the ideas and making great things happen. Actions speak louder than words etc.
