in Is there still a place for traditional, paid conferences? on The Daily Boo
Yeah, something's borked at TweetMic: the recording is blank.
So I did it again, this time at ipadio :) try this - http://bit.ly/1a7T79

in How Twitter Was Born on 140 Characters
Terrific story! I joined Twitter in Dec 06 without really knowing what it was, how I'd use it or even why I'd joined it. Heh, still trying to figure all that out :)
Thanks for the history.

in Fixing the WordPress login issue on John Hawkins Unrated.com
John, thanks for commenting on the post I wrote today about my 'endless Wordpress login loop' with a link to this post of yours.
I've fixed my issue which I don't think is the same as yours, involving a WordPress security exploit according to DreamHost support.
I've updated my post with details of the problem and how it was fixed.

in Steven Spielberg, Harisson Ford, George Lucas in Seesmic this morning on Loic Le Meur
What a development! Gives a real sense of connection with some pretty famous people that would unlikely happen except via this medium and in this way. Brilliant, Loic. A great validation for seesmic.

in How I started Seesmic and raised $6 million on Loic Le Meur
Nice post, Loic. You're a good story-teller. And your English gets better all the time :)
Very interesting point you make re differences in attitude Europe vs. US. "Trust is by default." On a far more simpler level than your venture, I see that myself. Far too much "can't" over here than "can." Actually, it then becomes a thrill when you meet someone who is all about "can."
Best of success for seesmic. With all the people you have involved in the venture, and the growing community, it's easy to see how successful this can be.

I was having a snooze, Bryan :)
Seriously, one of the really interesting things about avatars in SL in their independence in terms of what happens if you don't do anything. After a short while, your avatar will make its own movements, nod its head, scratch a body part or something. Quite cool!
Actually, look at the body language of most of us there. I think this was the moment we all entered into that transcendental meditation phase...

in Is Akismet down? on Scobleizer
Robert, I think it might be to do with a system upgrade to Akismet -
http://akismet.com/blog/2006/08/better-stats/
I've also had a blitz of spam comments waiting in the moderation queue today, the type of stuff that normally never ever makes it there but instead gets trapped by Akismet.
Hopefully just a temporary thing.

in Bad news gets worse on Scobleizer
I feel for you and your whole family, Robert. My mother-in-law died last October following a major stroke in April. She lingered for six months requiring constant care and then had a final, catastrophic stroke.
Nothing prepares you for it and it is the most awful time for everyone.
You never, ever, get over something like this entirely. But time is also a healer.

in Surprise: Slashdot misrepresents facts on Scobleizer
I've just posted referencing that story, Robert, ie, the original piece by John Peddie.
I didn't think of questioning his stats (heh! I'm a blogger not a journalist...) but whether he's right or wrong, I'd say it is pretty likely that loads of PCs won't be able to take advantage of some of Vista's advanced featured like Vista Aero simply because they won't have the muscle to do so. No doubt such PCs will be able to run the OS itself, just not do the really cool visual stuff.
So I wrote about a 'workaround' to consider - skin XP with WindowBlinds if you want something that has some of the Areo-like look-and-feel.
Some prety creative and imaginative Vista-like skins out there already.

in I’m having issues on Marketing Begins At Home
David, settling on a final theme for your WordPress blog does take a while! I'm going through the same issues thing that you are with my new WordPress blog.
I've tried K2 as well, like it a lot, especially the extra tweaking control you have over it via the WP control panel. I like the tabs in particular.
Theme is usually pretty subjective. I've been using a slightly self-customized version of the Plain Vanilla theme (and plain vanilla it certainly isn't). I like its clean and sparse look as well as its great functionality. Depending on what you're looking for in your theme, that might be worth checking out.
You can see how it looks on my new WordPress blog, currently at http;//www.tle.us.com

You're quite right that paid conference organizers need to "tighten up their game....You need to have something compelling." Very true. If a low-paid or free unconference offering and a high-price traditional conference offer almost identical content, why would anybody reasonably choose to attend the latter?
