in How Does Obama Do It? on Jack and Jill Politics
as another white guy who discovered this blog a coupla months ago and read it daily, i am so grateful for your insights. get well, take care of yourself. i feel much the same as i see this country seeming to slip away into something unrecognizable.

it occurs to me that something important may be happening in this torturous primary process. the process is too long. one candidate is now intent on destroying the front runner. the so-called leadership of the Democratic party remains silent as the process threatens to disembowel the party and alienate voters.

maybe the "something important" is a realization that America needs a new party. two years ago the dems were given a chance in Congress to change the direction of the country, and to challenge Bush and his fellow bandits. they refrained from leadership. during this primary season the dems had the opportunity to offer America some hope and confidence. they are determined instead to form a circular firing squad. and the so-called leaders and elders of the party remain silent.

the Obama campaign has given voice to a long dormant vision of a renewed America, and this vision is not going to be dormant any longer. such a hopeful vision, once associated with the Democratic party is scorned by the current party machinery, because the current machine has lost its way and no longer believes in democracy, equality, or social progress.

if Obama is shut down, or more likely, if the party machinery continues to allow him to fend for himself (in their silence) while Hillary plays on racist stereotypes, invokes terrorism fears, and continues to do everything she can not just to win, but to destroy him (and he can not really strike back...that would play out in the media, the Clinton campaign and the GOP in a blatantly racist way) ....

if Hillary and the machine prevail, it may be time for progressive Americans to consider other options. maybe that is what is happening.

painting Barack as the Angry Black man

The whole point of the Clinton/GOP attacks on Obama is to promote fear by playing on people's racially-based apprehensions and prejudices. They are trying to slap on to Obama the images of the angry black man, the black man in the back alley, the black thug.

Osama=Obama "slip-ups"

The insidious email campaign that Obama was educated at a madrassa and so was a secret terrorist.

Obama's pastor as anti-American, shouting, angry, violent.

William Ayers question: Weather Underground bombers.

Bob Johnson suggesting that Obama was a thug in "the hood"

This approach is cynical, degrading, and anti-democratic (whether it is anti-American or not i will leave to others). It is meant to shut down discussion of real issues, to end democratic conversation: the political discourse that is supposed to mark a constitutional democracy like our own.

in Bill Clinton Says There are TWO Patriots in this Race…and guess who’s NOT included? on Jack and Jill Politics
b-serious, it shouldn't have to be Obama asking her to drop out. it should be the democratic "leadership" (you can see i use that term cautiously)
Just imagine if things were reversed: if Clinton had won over a dozen primaries in a row, was ahead in the delegate count, ahead in the popular vote, and way ahead in the number of states won.

I suspect there would be tremendous pressure on Obama to pull out.

i further suspect Clinton would regard a decision by Obama to stay in the race as underhanded chicanery.

and yet what do we see in the current situation?

Clinton in the exact same situation carries on, with a minimal chance of victory, and actually had the ovaries to offer Obama a veep slot.

everything she does now is intended to destroy his standing vs McCain.

she and Bill even speak more favorably of the Republican than they do of their Dem opponent.

the democratic party "leadership", which would be telling Obama to drop out if the situation was reversed, is cowed into silence, and when one superdelegate speaks out (Richardson) is he labeled a Judas.

and yesterday, a Hillary campaign manager
said Richardson's endorsement of Obama was "insignificant"

and mouthpiece James Carville compared Obama to Judas.

it is amazing to me that after pursuing Richardson for weeks trying to get him to endorse Hillary, and doing so persistently…

the Clintons now dismiss his endorsement of Obama as somehow insignificant.

if it is so insignificant, why did they work their tails off to get it?

if it is so insignificant, how come Carville calls Richardson a Judas!

(i would think Judas rather significant.

Judas betrayed the Savior.

Hillary is certainly no Savior.)

in Bill Richardson Endorses Obama on Jack and Jill Politics
where are you John Edwards, indeed!!!

i have been waiting, waiting, waiting....

on some "leaders" in the democratic party to step forward, speak out, and end the bloodletting.

I think this took guts on Bill's part.... especially considering his friendship with the Clintons.

and, o yes, he should keep the beard...even when he is Vice President!

now, the next one who should step up is John Edwards to slam the nail in the coffin of the old politics!

where are you John?
