I agree Karyn. I used to be a first grade teacher and the picture books alone made my job satisfying. My favorites authors are Leo Leoni, Eric Carle, Mo Willems, Kevin Henkes, Ezra Jack Keats, Patrick McDonnell, and Lauren Child.

Great Authors and remind you not to take life so seriously.

I've been to Senegal and it's a pretty amazing place with a rich history! Going to Africa proved to be one of the best things I've ever done with my life! It's not what you see on TV that's for sure!

The best work I've ever done is submit my photography to "The Studio Museum in Harlem" two of my photos were chosen and during the opening my photography/art was placed right next to that of the late great Gordon Parks.

I also made the leap to own and operate a business and the rewards have been nothing short of a miracle...the opportunity to create meaningful work in our everyday lives is there if we just remain present.

This is so spot on. We are a myriad of possibilities and our human potential is infinite. I think the demands of social conditioning is the bedrock of insecurity and inauthenticity. However, once you're courageous enough to step over that threshold of self-acceptance (your quirks and contradictions!) your ability to soar will be beyond anything you can imagine for yourself!

I'm with Carrie on the small mistakes "pile up" thing. The wrong boyfriend, the wrong job, the living for others, hiding my sadness, hiding my loneliness, pretending to be strong when I wanted to be vulnerable, having sex when I didn't want to and generally living by default.

I try not to use the word mistake or failure cause they fill you with the negative connotation of regret. Lesson learned is more gentler....lol

Nothing could be truer! I always played it safe. Dotting my i's and crossing my t's; doing my best to be perfection. Of course I realize now that that's a nuerosis and that life was not meant to be life that way. Life is classroom. Our job is to develop the necessary tool to handle the pitfalls.

I'm there with Carrie. Owning and managing trivial things is not my idea of fun. I'll take a full body massage, trips to South Africa, Morocco, and Paris...and plenty of yoga retreats for me and the hubby.

I kinda see it like this.

If someone says something off putting. The comment might sting a bit; but if we take it to heart it means that we quietly already believe that negative thing being said about ourselves anyway. The pain is caused by that person pressing our buttons. I've been there...many times.

Most negative comments are about the ego in the other person trying to knock you down a peg or two. Sometimes malicious and sometimes the ego just wants to compete....

If we study the drive of the ego (Hello! Eckhardt Tolle)...negative comments will roll like heads in Marie Antoinette! And brushed like dirt off your shoulders!

Hey Posh.

Found your website through a Black Web Log search. I'll be reading your site for days to come. I'm a lifestyle writer myself and I'm doing research to get a feel of what readers want and honing my skills. I'm basically admitting that I'm lurking.

No shame here. I try not to hide behind Internet anonymity.

As for diet and exercise; I do what is fun and try to practice a bit of discipline. I do African Dance, Salsa Dance, I walk a lot cause I live in New York City, and I don't clear my plate. I could step up my veggie and water game for more consistency but I don't bash myself in the head for not being able to be fitness perfection.

Kinda challenging to do if you have a day job, a partner, and a family. The best thing that I do for my health now is meditate.
Nothing beats that mental clutter.

I agree with Myth #1 the most. People are too used to us wearing the cape and believing that we don't need our feet, back's, and temples rub, that we don't need a hot meal, that we don't want flowers (only money), and that we don't need any form of nurturing except for dack.

And to leave a short comment I think that its up to the couple to decide what's best for them. Many of these comments are on a middle class mentality level...I'm not trying to diss or dismiss but there are women who don't even work and don't have children...they're philanthropist's or fundraisers...

Some men like being breadwinners and some women like being at home. If the man doesn't have a problem with it then why should we...I think the most important thing is that the woman and man are educated...that way they'll be able to fend for themselves if they happen to find themselves on their own.
