I don't think it supports GPS.

I installed the new version over the old and it seems to have replaced over it. It did prompt me to install over it also.

Just because your upgrade is in 8 days time, doesn't mean you HAVE to upgrade then and there. Take your time, choosing, wait for the handset you want (if it's coming out later) and try research more.

I know Nokia are trying to keep the S60 experience same when they move over to the touch interface, but the S60 look itself needs an overhaul, it's outdated. The icons on the new E71 and E66 are hideous too!

Comparing how slow the N95 8GB is with it's internal memory solution I'd skip it, purely on the basis you can get a 16GB card now. DVB-H tuner? Not in Europe, using a different band.

Don't forget rumours of the N96 not having a graphic chip either. Having choices is one thing, but having choice of an N85 or N96, I'd got with the N85 everyday.

@Laughing John DVB-H has been chosen by EU recently to be the standard for mobile TV, but who is transmitting signals is another question. Also how much would you be able to watch before the battery runs flat?

@Mark Guim - Looks that way. I remember on the leaked roadmap there was an upgrade to N85 handset, supposedly with Xenon flash, but may be an 8MP camera instead now?

Apple worried of the N96? No chance. The iPhone has had specific iPlayer goodness since last year.
Your normal S60 3rd edition handset should also support this feature. There isn't anything specified which points to the service not being available on the n95 for instance.

The strong point of the Mac is it's hardware! the software is great as it's easy to use and familiarise with. The key thing with the Mac is that the "budget" specs are actually used more efficiently than Windows or Linux. You have to get a real Mac to get that experience of it. Once you get one, you'll soon learn to love it.

I'm one of those that was waiting for this N810, but it hasn't quite convinced me that it actually is enough of an upgrade to the N800. At the current price the N800 is, it's the best bargains around, already ordered mine. ^_^

I'll wait for the N850 or something, hopefully that will come with specs significantly better than the N810.

Rita - Regarding the bluetooth issue, you need to go into control panel > panels and edit the displayed items which will be shown on the taskbar at all times. This way you can enable and disable bluetooth with one click. This is possible on the N800 running OS 2008, should be the same on the N810 also.

I agree with brucery, the battery life isn't bad considering how many features it has. If you compare it to a lot of other models out there (LG KG800, Nokia 8800), the battery life isn't that bad.

I think it could have been a bit better and sustained a little longer, but to be honest I do think Nokia have done a decent job.

Recharging it once a day for me is fine.

It's a shame how the carriers behave, crippling and controlling what the user should do and not do with their device.

A communist mobile market form the looks of it.

My advice, find who does what to handsets and avoid them if necessary.

In the UK, Vodafone and Orange are the worst, T-Mobile UK isn't too far behind. O2 seems to be only carrier that doesn't brand or cripple it's models.

The more you as the user let them, the more they will do to their hearts content.

Coming from a non smartphone device I find it shocking that a device sophisticated as this does not have the basic user functionality in place.

Simple prompts like opening should be easy to implement into any installation, should it not?

There seems to be a few bugs/hindrances in the S60 3rd edition platform, such as not being able to replace an old theme or even the same theme with a new version or replacement.

Nokia development team perhaps need to take a look at the user friendliness and especially installation intelligence a but more. Simple things mentioned in the post should be the first things sorted out before even attempting to move into more advanced installation concepts.

An honest review to say the least!

I have to agree, the RAZR-esque design is something I hate, it looks pretty and everything, but if it doesn't past the basic tests of user friendliness and general usage what is the point.

I think companies should really start giving out a few pre-release models out for 3rd party testing before mass producing them. With all the points Ricky has made, and if Nokia decide to take into account all of them, it's going to need a v2 of the N76 to sort out, as there are aesthetic issues and can't be remedied with Firmware upgrade etc.

I was seriously thinking about getting a slimmer model for my daily usage, but perhaps not now...

P.s. the design looks pretty sweet, also I personally think it's a good thing getting rid of the camera manual shutter, it was annoying when putting into your back jeans pocket.

Maybe they should have also got rid of the second slide, I don't seem to use it that much..?

Will Nokia ever learn how to get something done the first time and properly? Just seems there is no seamless integration with services or handset updates with them.

I'm just interested in seeing whether the N-Gage 2 platform will be dead before it learns to walk. What's wrong with releasing it with the current S60 3rd Edition devices which support it? N95-1 for one has it since the firmware upgrade to V20.

Hopefully the rumours aren't true and the platform will be launched for all current handsets available at the time of release.

I agree with the fact Nokia needs to buck up and start adding more innovative features, give us more updates frequently giving us more features for our handsets and not just leave it to the 3rd party developers.

Rita, Great post and some very valid points. I hope S60 does take note of most of the suggested improvements / additions, in particular the gallery, I've mentioned it many times, even in my recent post on the N81, put it on the Beta Labs also, still not response or any hint of an upheaval.
I hope S60 does start to sort it out and takes note.

I'm sure the v15 for the N95 8GB has been out for a month or so already? All be it for specific Product codes, it's only inevitable it would be released for the rest of EU and Asia sooner or later.

Do feel for you US folks, but to be honest, why not have a universal band lie the rest of Europe and Asia? You only have yourselves to blame for having your "own" band.

Valid points there James. I totally agree with the fact that WAP is outdated and needs revising. WAP sites are exactly as you described. Mono pages optimized for old generation of handsets. The new era is now, along with Web 2.0, Multimedia Mobile handsets capable of connecting via Wi-Fi, HSDPA, EDGE ect... and m. is the future for Mobile Internet Access.
What is needed is clarification on the point of what a m. site is and what a WAP site is to stop the confusion staring every NORMOB and executive sitting on the boards with outdated information. Just like the Technology world, things are moving fast and some are just finding it too fast to keep up.

Someone give them a Web 2.0 dictionary and educate these fools. Stop hindering the progress of the new Mobile era.

I wouldn't classify myself as a power user, but there are many similarities between yours and my journey, i.e. music and jaiku (but using the m.jaiku site), I also tend to check e-mails, reed my feeds via google reader as my journey is over ground and sweet HSDPA is available.
