in Cool Cat Teacher Blog: Soldier On on Cool Cat Teacher Blog
We have the same problem in Scotland with our new antionwide system called GLOW. It has eveyrthing - VLE, Meet, messenger and chat facilities, forums, groups ability to peruse inforamtion from our records software , attendence etc. IT can be used by parents, kids and staff at school and home. But guess what? Half the weblinks are barred by websense, we have to ROLLBACK Java from 1.6 to 1.5 to get some webparts working, and every day brings a new challenge caused not by the GLOW team or Learnign Teaching Scotland but by the local councils and their IT Staff who don't want to 'lose control' or more likely their jobs when we realise that in fact we don't need so many IT wizards on inflated salaries!
And to Stephen: Excuse me dear boy but you've already got thousands of soldiers in education! We're the ones who do 23 years in the Army and then a four year degree and teach! I don't make my class march but they DO work and have fun! 8-)

I think Ewan has been talking about this also, hasn't he? Yes, it is a
tough fight it seems - the filtration issue has been really horrible for so
many.

As the report says he has been lambasted over the whole political spectrum apart fromthe extreme Islamic groups....says it all. The man's a buffoon and several of his own Bishops are lining up telling him to resign this evening on the news over here!

in NATO Enters Musa Qala on Captain's Quarters Comments
The vast majority of these NATO forces are British. We pulled out originally becuase we had too few to cover all the differetn areas in Helmand Province and elsewhere whilst the NATO Forces apart from the US/Canada were holding nighly parties in Kabul since they weren't allowed out at night. Poor wee Germans etc.....
Meanwhile the Poles, Estonians and so on have stepped up to the base as you chaps put it....
So the real story is the Brits left and have returned in force to deal with the problem.

Jiminez: I didn't write it, the Toronto Globe and Mail did. Check the link. Faced with an attitude like yours it's a wonder any country would want to help the US in anything.

Brits pulled out of Basra in Iraq, and gave away their little bit of Afghanistan to the Taliban. But hey, they're now commenting on the NIE report and snarking about how awful American intelligence is, which I'm not for a moment going to doubt that it *is* awful.
But what kind of chutzpah would it take to take potshots at someone else's spooks when your own navy has gone bellyup, your soldiers are handing over places that may or may not be ready to solo in Iraq, and your NATO commanders are literally giving the farm away in Afghanistan?
Why on earth would anyone believe that England's spookdom is any better currently than America's if their MI5 and MI6 are in the same shape as their armed forces? Even that exemplar of everything cool and lethal about British spies, James Bond would now be in his 50's, so really ... what has England done lately to astound us, other than to throw out a perfectly good Prime Minister and run away, run away?
