And I am a big Beatles fan, so . . .

The country version of Eight Days A Week was simply awful. The judges were right on with that one.

I liked Michael Johns song, but was hoping he was going to perform While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Now that would have been a great choice for him.

Wasn't crazy about David Cook's song choice until he hit the chorus - wow.

Chikezie was incredible. It's a huge green monster with a bad temper. Then again, it's possible that the CGI is not finished yet like the first Iron Man trailer.

I think this flick's main problems are the bad taste that Hulk left in our mouths and that we have seen so much of The Dark Knight and Iron Man (both of which look like they could be the best "comic book" movies ever made) that this flick has a lot to live up to. BUT, it does have Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth and William Hurt and (hopefully) no esoteric flashbacks and imagery.

Steven's last blog post..Top 100 Movies: No. 68 - The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996)

Re: American Idol 2008 Results - Top 11 Announced - March 12

The producers of the show should have apologized to Kristy and the audience for making her perform it again. This is (unbelievably) the first trailer for the movie and the special effects might not even be complete. Plus, and I'm not a big Hulk fan, but wasn't a lot of the comic book story about Banner wanting to cure himself? I think you can have both Banner's inner turmoil and "Hulk Smash!"

I have some faith in the actors here and think we may all be in for a pleasant surprise.

Steven's last blog post..That’s What She Said . . . Whether Jin died or not, I found the end to be very emotional and it ranks up there with when Charlie died. I have come to really like Jin's character and I love the fact that he didn't freak out and revert to his old self when he learned that Sun had an affair.

So, is Jin alive or dead? If he is dead, the date on the gravestone could make sense. Per Jack's testimony at Kate's trial, the lie the Oceanic 6 have been telling is that most of the survivors died with the plane. I can't remember though, did he say there were 8 people that initially survived and two later died?

Then again, maybe Jin was forced to stay on the island so that Sun could leave and avoid the mysterious illness that pregnant women suffer from on the island.

I think the ship has been out there for a LONG time. I don't think anyone sabotaged the kitchen, I think they may have just run out of food. Wouldn't lima beans be the last thing most people would eat?

I also think there may be someone else sympathetic to Sayid and Desmond on the ship. Michael is out for himself and Walt and I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't the one who has been "helping" them. I thought the banging of the pipes may have been Morse code.

Steven's last blog post..That’s What She Said . . . My jaw literally (well, ok, figuratively) hit the floor when the ring fell out of her hand. Although The Usual Suspects was pretty awesome too. I also thought Frailty had a good "twisty" ending.

And now for a confession. I am embarrassed to say that I have never seen Shawshank. For some reason it has eluded me and I don't know why b/c I have heard over and over again how awesome it is. I heard they may bring back some of the old cast members, but I don't think Dr. Green can make it back - that character died of brain cancer several seasons ago.

Also, I can't remember where I read it, but I think George Clooney is not going to make an appearance, but I could be wrong.

Steven's last blog post..Top 100 Movies: An Alien, an Unlikely Hero, and a Classic

Re: ER’s final season to showcase old cast members

No problem. I wish Michael Johns would have done While My Guitar Gently Weeps. That would have been a great choice for him. David Cook was excellent as was Syesha. The basketball episode aired the other night (one of my favorites). Has anyone noticed how they toned down Michael's "jerkiness" since the beginning of the series? You are kidding, right?

Just watched this last night and I agree with you about Jake's performance and the story itself. Pretty predictable except for the trick.

But I am really surprised about your comments about the torture scenes. Unless you have some special training I have to ask if you are kidding about being able to take what they did to him: water boarding, electorcution, solitary confinement in (literally), a hole in a wall, etc. Oh yeah, before that he was he was captured, had a bag put over his head, was interrogated, flown to another country, stripped, beaten, etc., etc.

SPOILER AHEAD . . .

Also, his refusal to give any information? Well, HE DIDN"T HAVE ANY. That's why he wasn't giving any info until he couldn't take it anymore, and then it wasn't accurate and was only given to stop the torture. Any information he did have, like about the ATF (I think) work he did, he gave it to them. He didn't know anything about the person he was being questioned about, so he couldn't answer any questions about it. For all he knew, if he lied, the torture would get worse or he would be killed.

Not the greatest movie, but I would urge anyone who hasn't seen it to take a look.

Steven's last blog post..Top 100 Movies: Mars, Sir Anthony, and Mel

Re: Jay Leno continues to suck

I'm with you Mike. Moreover, Gyllenhaal's performance could have made a difference in this area had he showed some emotion.

I think the filmmakers were trying to keep open the slight possibility that Anwar may have been a terrorist or sympathizer until Gyllenhaal's character Googles the information he provided. That was a mistake on their part. They should have made it absolutely clear from the start that he was innocent.

That being said, I still disagree about the questioning issue. They asked him about the ATF and he gave them names. He passed a polygraph. The agent who questioned him initially believed he was innocent after extensive questioning. When they ask him about the one specific individual who they have information about, (the individual who allegedly made calls to his phone) he answered honestly - he didn't know who it was.

Like the character in the movie, I would have a really hard time giving up information about family and friends, who I believe are innocent, to people who so easily made me disappear. That was the point of the exchange regarding Anwar's uncle. If they can do it to him, who's to say his uncle, other family members or friends aren't next?

Like I said, the filmmakers made some mistakes, but I think it gets its point across regarding due process and torture, which is the most important thing in a film of this nature.

Steven's last blog post..Top 100 Movies: Mars, Sir Anthony, and Mel

Re: Jay Leno continues to suck

Agreed Mike, but did you ever seen the exchange between Letterman and Harvey Pekar of American Splendor fame (see the movie - it's pretty good)? Pekar was being extremely difficult, but Letterman ends up making fun of his comic and calling him a dork. You have to see the movie to understand what started it all. Here it is:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=iBr4NxujLvw

Steven's last blog post..Top 100 Movies: Mars, Sir Anthony, and Mel

Re: Jay Leno continues to suck

True, it was a super long time ago, but Pekar wasn't just as bad. Letterman basically used him for laughs and when Pekar tried to call him out on it, Letterman got personal. I think Letterman is great, but he was out of line there.

Steven's last blog post..Top 100 Movies: Mars, Sir Anthony, and Mel

Re: Jay Leno continues to suck

I'm not trying to disparage Dave at all, the clip is just relevant to the discussion. I'll throw two out there: the Basketball episode from Season 1 and the Christmas episode when they go to Benihana. The judges were right on about her this week - she sang The Show Must Go On "angry" when it should have been "inspirational." Too much. She just doesn't seem to get it.

Kristy should have been gone before Chikezie. Jason Castro was great and I really didn't understand Randy's comments about his performance. As you said, David A's vocals were great as usual, but he really doesn't take any risks. Terrible. Made me rethink my decision to watch Idol for the first time this year.

I will go against the grain and say that I actually liked Jason's performance. He did the best with what he had and sang with emotion, rather than getting up on stage and screaming like Carly or scaring like Brooke.

Oh, and for those who think he belongs in a boy band - wrong. He may have the female fans, but he is more of a singer-songwriter type (see Jack Johnson, Pete Yorn, etc.)

Steven's last blog post..Top 100 Movies: Christmas in Gotham, Life in a Convenience Store, and A Real Life Hero

Re: Lost recap, episode 4×09: “The Shape of Things to Come”

Great, great, great.

I am a total sucker for things like this, but I just love the way Sawyer is looking out for everyone now. I loved it when he told Locke he would kill him if he harms Hurley.

Did you notice the smirk on Ben's face after Sayid asked him who was next and Ben walked away? Classic manipulative Ben.

By the way, I was completely wrong. I didn't think that Ben belonged in the Ultimate Bad Ass competition, but this episode proved that he did. The look on Sawyer's face when he pulled it out of the piano bench was great.

I don't think that the main characters don't care about anyone else other than the other main characters. Don't you think that Sawyer may have been a little more frantic to get Claire because of Aaron? He was also trying to get those people to stay in the house.

One thing that was a little silly or improbable was how Sawyer avoided getting shot at all. That was a lot of firepower coming at him as he hid behind a picnic table. That being said, a Smoke Monster helped them survive, so I am not going to complain too much :-)

Steven's last blog post..Top 100 Movies: Christmas in Gotham, Life in a Convenience Store, and A Real Life Hero

Re: Ultimate Bad Ass: Round 2 - John McClane Bracket

Seems like two impossible choices, but when you think about it, it is not that tough of a choice, especially with regard to the first match-up. I actually thought about turning it off. If they are going to force the contestants to endure these themes, why not do it with some CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS. Andrew Lloyd Weber, Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton, and hell, I'll even through Mariah Carey into the mix. Just not my thing.

I am a big fan of Jason's and didn't think that his performance last week was as bad as most thought. This week, he was bad. Forever in Blue Jeans wasn't awful, there just wasn't a whole lot there. His second song was just downright boring. I agree Jason, he really doesn't seem to care.

Brooke was bad as well.

David A can really really sing, but come on. It is the same thing week after week after week with him. I thought his performances were cheesy and "theme park-ish". He can't keep up with David C.

No way Syesha should go home, but I think you may be right Jason. By the way, how does Simon expect the performers to avoid sounding "old fashioned" (as he accused Syesha of being) when they continue to have these terrible themes.

Anyone think Simon may have been trying to get people to vote for Syesha when he said she is in danger of going home?

Stevens last blog post..Flicks Lists Reviews: Juno (2007)

Re: American Idol 2008 - Top 5 Performance (4/29/08) Recaps

It should be David C and Syesha in the finals Cap'n. It aired on CBS and was about a lawyer with a drug problem who has to do court-ordered pro bono work at a legal aid clinic. An original television show with good story lines and excellent acting. So, of course, it was canceled before it ran its course. Plus, it was set in Pittsburgh, which is a refreshing change from the usual settings.

I also love Arrested Development, but I am just now getting into it on HDNet so I have a few episodes to go before I start longing for more :-)

Stevens last blog post..Top 100 Movies: A Great Twist, Baberaham Lincoln, and Mrs. Robinson

Re: Top ‘Critics’ for April 2008

Congrats to the top critics and to Jason and Mike!

Stevens last blog post..Top 100 Movies: A Great Twist, Baberaham Lincoln, and Mrs. Robinson

Re: Comedy Recaps: The Office, 30 Rock

That might have been the best Office of the year.

Micheal - "What are the pink lines?"

Dwight - "Menstrual cycles"

I also love how Ryan is just the biggest slime ball now. They definitely need Steve Carell to make this work.
Cannonball!!

Stevens last blog post..8 Reasons I Didn’t Enjoy Iron Man

Re: What to rent: New DVD releases for 5/6/08

Looking forward to I'm Not There. Seems like an accurate description to me based on everything I've read about the man. We also have video of his foul mouth and flipping off a camera before an interview. That said, I am sure Stone will turn it up to 11. :-)

Stevens last blog post..Classic Trailer Tuesday: Robert Downey Jr.

Re: Josh Brolin Looks Like George W On Cover Of EW

And he does look a lot like President Bush. I'm just saying that, based on what I've read about the man, that description, while incomplete I'm sure, sounds accurate with regard to certain aspects.

Stevens last blog post..Classic Trailer Tuesday: Robert Downey Jr.

Re: Will “The Dark Knight” Break Opening Weekend Box Office Records?

Hey guys - remember me? This indeed seems like an odd bit of casting, but Seth Rogan has had a string of successful (and good) movies, so I am hopeful they will find a way to make this work.

Re: New Iron Man International Trailer Hits the Web

Wow this looks good. That would be an awesome flick. I'm also in the minority because I didn't think Daredevil was that bad.
