And Russia would act swiftly. Their military may be antiquated by US standards, but they're not fighting a two front war with a troop level adequate for a one front war. We would hardly be in a position to push back. And if you haven't noticed, they been spending a lot of capital upgrading their hardware. I'll bet they've been anticipating the US stepping over the line and are ready to go on the offensive if the US wants to engage in push and shove match.

Re: Sarah Palin: Diplomat Without Porfolio (Yet?)

And one other thing people seem to forget. The US doesn't have 300,000 combat ready troops stationed in NATO countries anymore. It's only approximately 75,000 now. Many of the old kasernes that use to be occupied by US troops have been turned over to their respects host nations and converted to civilian use. Hence, there are very few US controlled staging areas available in NATO countries to mass US troops let alone the equipment necessary to engage Russia. And they would become targets of opportunities for he Russians to take out. And with the cost of fuel there, $8 a gallon, they would be hard pressed to keep their columns rolling. Especially since Europe relies heavily on Russia for fuel and oil.

Re: Palin and The Bush Doctrine

As her stint as mayor and governor clearly shows, she'll delegate that responsibility to some groveling half-wit Alaskan.

Re: Palin on Earmarks: Don’t Hate the Player, Hate the Game

Palin is the Imelda Marcos of Earmarks.

Re: McCain’s Latest Whopper: He Helped Create the BlackBerry

The repugs had their Al Gore invented the Internet. If he has 13 autos, but only identifies one as an American brand, then the ad must be correct. Else he would have named the other American autos he owns as well; which they don't.

Re: Obama and McCain Take Part in Science Debate 2008

That was interesting. Obama went straight to the meat of the subject while McCain avoided the meat and gnawed at the bone instead.

Obama cited relevant statistics for the decline in science in America and how he would work to get the US back on the technological-science track. McCain meandered about with generalities, nothing specific; completely unfocused.

Obama was quite verbose on Energy, National Security, Genetics, Stem Cells, Scientific Integrity, Research and Health. All, with the exception of National Security, are I-Don't-Care-About-That republican issues. McCain's responses are more like 30 second ads for TV and radio spots; all talk but nothing specific.

Re: McCain Adviser Blasts The New York Times for Bias

Avoiding to answer a simple question is an implied yes in this case. If the story were not true, they would have given ample evidence to refute the accusation. They did not. Attacking the messenger is not a very smart option to exercise, especially from a political campaign that calls itself the Straight Talk Express

If the MSM isn't smart enough to figure that out they should go into another line of business.

Re: Socialism, the New Capitalism

If we design it so it’s punitive and so institutions aren’t going to participate

So who's forcing them to participate? Lindsey Graham tells CNN the McCain campaign is proposing to the Presidential Debate Commission and the Obama camp that if there's no bailout deal by Friday, the first presidential debate should take the place of the VP debate, currently scheduled for next Thursday, October 2 in St. Louis.

So we need to put the country first and cancel the vice presidential debate.

Is it Friday yet?
