evita Gina I have no idea what YOUR experiences have been like in this country, but I know EXACTLY what Mrs Obama means when she said "America can be a mean country," and "In my adult life,I've never been so proud (speaking about the POLITICAL system." You see I respect the person who can be critical and loving at the same time. I wish my life resembled the heiress of a beer fortune, but with my working class roots I can acknowledge that this country can be MEAN. It was mean when my dad was laid off of work just before I started college. It was mean when last year I couldn't afford health care and have been relegated to scamming underground allergy medication. And its mean in the ways that some Americans believe there is only ONE way to be American therfore everyone else is false, less than, or fake.

It can be greedy. It can be self centered. It can be arrogant- as I have seen these last 8 years.

And it can be a place that I love at the same time. Michelle Obama is like MANY people, including me. If she isn't like you, that's ok... you've had several hundred years of first lady's who were JUST like you. ;) Take a break for the next 8 years.

TRW Gina, clearly you didn't read the interview because Barack didn't say he was beyond reproach, he said that if you want to debate matters of policy, debate them with him since Michelle isn't the candidate and he is. He correctly pointed out that many people who criticize Michelle, don't have the nerve to say that stuff to his face because they know they are wrong.

And please don't tell me that you are accusing Obama of turning everything into a photo op. He has a press corp following his every move!!!!!! His whole life is a photo op. People make the mundane details of his life news, but it must be Obama's fault since he is running for President and created such a huge interest in his comings and goings.

And you are absolutely right. Obama gets twice the coverage McCain, but again tell me how this is Obama's fault. If you haven't recognized it already, the media has failed to seriously question McCain's policy positions or gaffes because they are too lazy, and because of the historic nature of Obama's campaign, they don't want to miss a moment.

As far as Michelle's proud comments. Please give me a break. John McCain has expressed similar comments on at least three separate occasions, one as recent as a month ago, about how it was hard to be proud of America sometimes or he didn't love America until he was deprived of its company. So I will be waiting for your follow-up post when you express shock and outrage that McCain hasn't always been proud of his country.

And America being a mean country....noooo, say it ain't so. I mean Michelle must be totally making that up. We have teenagers videotaping fights for you tube, and people failing to give aid to an ill woman in a hospital for over an hour, and passengers failing to assist an elderly woman that was being terrorized by someone with bipolar disorder on the bus just to name recent examples. But God forbid Michelle talk about the shifting cultural dynamic and lack of community in this country, and yes even the meannes, because it might be based on reality.

Yes, the Obamas must have indoctrinated their daughters with all kind of anti-American fervor because I saw them actually spitting and stomping on the flag when they attended that Fourth of July rally a couple of weeks ago. Just like the woman you support, you skirt any sort of responsibility away from the one doing the damage. Most of these things you cite Obama for where in DIRECT response (mostly by surrogates, and sometimes not in the way you claim) to something Hillary did - that, at least, I feel was something much more detrimental to HIM.

So much to respond to here, I don't even know where to begin.

I will say simply this: the Clintons are out for their own, plain and simple. They ran a shitty campaign for themselves (many people think that Bill was desperately trying to get Hillary the nod because it was her consolation prize for him fuckin' around on her; whether or not this is true, he ACTED like it - a desperate, fear-mongering piece of shit). I used to have respect for, and like, both Clintons, but after this primary campaign - where, as previous posters have stated - Obama treated her almost entirely with respect and chose to ignore certain things he COULD HAVE easily attacked - the same was no where near true in terms of their conduct towards him. They shit on him, and shit hard.

I told some friends before this all started that I thought Hillary - despite her polarizing / insane-GOP GOTV abilities, i.e. she mobilizes the right to vote against her - was STRONG enough to beat any Republican. I still feel that way, but after seeing how she treated "one of her own," a potential teammate, a colleague, someone she might have to work with closely in the future...holy fuck.

Will never be able to vote for her - or her hubby - again, no matter how much repentance they may offer forth. But of course, that won't happen; she will never apologive, as she is way past the point, and I doubt she'll even campaign for him (much, if at all).

So you go ahead and do whatever you can to make sure Obama loses; go right ahead.

If you have the last laugh of all of this, four years from now, I'll be toe-to-toe with you making sure your gal suffers the same fate.

It is indeed time for change, and a new-style of politics - and being angry and passionate and battling you in this forum does not mean we are bloodsucking assholes that represent the opposite of 'new' or 'peace' or 'change.' You are of course entitled to your opinion, and some such as myself even enjoy the discourse.

But we just feel strongly about kicking out a certain camp of the party that is too-power-hungry, too self-serving, too-fake, too-vengeful, too...I could keep going, but I think you see where I'm coming from.
