in Photrade is Hanging in There on Justin Korn [dot] com
Hey thanks for linking my articles ;-)

I think it's unfortunate. After they got funding originally they hit the ground running (more or less) and a ton of improvements came about.

Now who knows.

I heard that Andy's announcement was pretty much "lip service", though I sure hope that in the end the site will be able to remain!!

in Photrade.com - Where is the Customer Support? on Justin Korn [dot] com
That sucks truly, but be realistic. How many emails do you think they get on a typical day? 202? 515? I have no idea.

Now, how many emails do you think they got during or about the outage? 77-204 times that!? I would not be surprised if that was the case.

To be honest, I'm surprised you got a response (as quickly as you did or even @ all)! I never heard a peep about the outage (other than not being able to log in all afternoon) until I saw their blog post about it this am....AND I do think it was a lot longer than 1.5 hours was it not?

My point is, I'm sure they had bigger fish to fry than dealing with lost contests. I'm sure everything will be restored in due time.

in Photrade Makes Photography Contests Easy on Social Media Explorer
I've never really "gotten into" OPC' s (online photo contests) but with the advent of Photrade's new system I'd be dumb not to participate!

Of course what I did not realize (until after the fact) that the contest widget you can use to promote your entries, anyone can vote, not just Photrade members...yeah, I'm a dork!

JasonFalls The good news is that now you know. There's something to be said for being able to do it better next time!

in Photrade: A photography sharing, licensing and syndication service without a compelling value proposition on Unstructured Thoughts
I disagree with the "Negative selection bias" section. Photrade is another (valuable) tool for a photographer to showcase & protect their work.

Why deal with the elitist microstock agencies (istock, shutterstock) and work for 20-30% when Photrade can get me 80% of my $tock licenses?

Case in point, I have 25 downloads @ istock for $25 (good luck for me seeing the $100 payout by the end of this year). Whereas @ Photrade I've sold 2 rights for ~ $60

2 for $60 >>> 25 for $25

Taylor Davidson Microstock agencies like istockphoto and shutterstock are hardly elitist. There are a huge variety of higher-end, traditional stock agencies that have far more restrictive photographer and image acceptance guidelines. And btw, even they pay far more: Alamy is ~70% I believe, Photoshelter pays 80%, Digital Railroad is in a similar area.

Photrade can be a tool for many photographers, for some images. I just think that the business model it uses will turn off photographers with other options to license their images.

in Startups: your web site sucks on Scobleizer
Photrade has it's share of funky moments. I had errors damn near a whole day about a week or so ago. I'd classify it as "getting there", otherwise a great site IMO.

Interesting, I don't remember reading about the logo. The stuff about the pricing though is very important for Photrade users!

It's gaining steam. I thought it was stagnant for a long time but they were in the process of getting funding...$$$ sure helped their cause!

in Sites Let Bloggers Make Money on Photos on Marketing Pilgrim
I had to use my hands, but I got the spam pop quiz right, whoot!

You should have been able to grab a picture from photrade. The difference being the in picture ad is just a plug for the site itself. I'm not sure how that will work anyway, b/c like you said that portion of it is very much still in Beta.

Here's one of mine that they put on the front page of photrade (though I know the code won't work):
