@Shawn: FeedDemon doesn't automatically include "system tags," but they are used when recommending tags for a specific post.

Thanks for the kind words, Steven! BTW, for an example of what Glenn is referring to, see this post in his blog:

StevenHodson You are more than welcome Nick as the product deserves all the kudos that comes its way. BTW I still remember when the very first beta was released. Even back then I think you set the bar for many rss clients.

I'll have a look at Glenn's suggestion in the next couple of days - thanks

Glenn Slaven Thanks Nick, I probably should have included a link to that in my comment. Would have been helpful :)

I couldn't agree with you more about the state of FPS games. I can't tell you how many crappy days I survived by taking a break from work and jumping into a mindless FPS like "Serious Sam." These days, though, it's too much like work trying to play one.

Arni, if you purchased on or after Dec 9, 2007, you'll receive a refund (my understanding is that your credit card charge will automatically be refunded).

Arni Well, I've been looking all over for my confirmation and payment e-mails, but hey appear to have disappeared along with a lot of mail, since my mailbox was AFK for the past 3 weeks, so I haven't yet been able to find my account details to actually request a refund :D

If, however, it's automatically returned, I shouldn't have to worry much, And yes, I bought it exactly a week before it became free. Impeccable timing, as always :D

Glad to hear you're happy about the news, Steven! I think our biggest fear in all of this was how existing customers would react to it.

PS: Frankie Goes To Hollywood? Geez...no wonder you're cranky ;)

StevenHodson One of the reasons I am happy about the move is because at some point there would be an upgrade that would have required money and since NewsGator doesn't support payments using PayPal I would have been screwed. the only reason I was even able to become a licensed FeedDemon user was because of a friend helping me out.

and what's wrong with Frankie LOL
Arni's picture
Arni How would existing customers react ? Not very well, considering it's only a few days since I bought the program. :D

And Frankie was cool....really... LOL.

A movie I really enjoyed that didn't get much press is "Monster Road," a documentary about animator Bruce Bickford (he did the weird clay animations for Zappa back in the 1970s). You can view the trailer at http://www.monsterroad.com/

Overall I think your link blog is great - FeedDemon's new attention report shows that I'm reading, flagging and sharing a lot of articles in it. In other words, it's bringing me a lot of value.

The only thing I'd recommend is not adding so many articles. There have been a number of times when I've seen 40+ new items in your link blog after updating my feeds, which combined with my "regular" subscriptions is far too much to keep up with.

Robert, your post mentioned nothing about agreeing with Ethan.

Look, I understand why you wrote this post. Chris is a friend of yours, you saw his work being attacked, and you stood up for him. That's admirable.

But that's not really what Ethan was writing about. Too many geeks - myself included - like to believe we're making the world a better place, when all we're really doing is making the world a better place for those who can afford the technology we create. That's what Ethan was really writing about, and I commend him for it.

Sorry, Robert, but I think you're off the mark on this one. As you know, I'm a big fan of Gnomedex, but Ethan's post was about far more than just Gnomedex, and I agree with much of what he says.

in Feedburner bad for us? on Scobleizer
Robert, if you leave FeedBurner, any request for your FeedBurner feed will result in an HTTP 301 (redirect) response. This tells the RSS reader that the feed's location has changed, and every RSS reader I know of will honor that request by updating the stored location of the feed.

In other words, you will NOT stop getting the feed.

in Inside the Gears of Google on Scobleizer
Robert, to answer you questions about FeedDemon, yes, it can be used to create a link blog. There's a screencast on my blog which demonstrates this feature - see http://nick.typepad.com/blog/2007/05/feeddemon_...

It also has a "river of news" view, complete with single-key navigation. And, of course, it synchronizes with NewsGator Online, so you can run it on multiple computers and have your feeds (including unread states) synched between them.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers' cover of "Higher Ground" is near the top of my list:

And the new Pearl Jam cover of The Who's "Love, Reign O'er Me" is surprisingly good, too.

Thank you, Robert. I'm in complete agreement with you about how something like this puts your life in perspective. After the accident, I wasn't thinking about Web 2.0, RSS, Google vs. Microsoft, or any of that stuff - I was thinking of my son and my family.

And yeah, some banana pudding sounds pretty good right now, unbridled hedonism be damned :)

PS: Ian, Isaac is playing Lego Star Wars II on his XBOX right now, and I'm just about to join him.

Tom, just an FYI that I've already contacted Microsoft about the "Open in new tab" bug, so they're aware of it. The next FeedDemon build (coming soon) includes a workaround for this problem, just in case it doesn't get fixed by MS soon.
