in GeoEye-1, the “Google satellite,” will capture the Inauguration from space on VentureBeat
"The company notes that while there will be plenty of cameras covering the event on the ground, and some in the air, GeoEye-1 will be the only one offering a perspective from space."

Oh, I sincerely doubt that...

in HD Radio In Your Car, Your Music Player, and Your Phone on A VC
*IF* content gets to the point you presume, then sure, HD radio will be great. But considering today it's really just a rehash of the same god-awful commercial programming being pumped out by the likes of Clear Channel, I'll take my esoteric podcasts instead.

in New Comment System Feedback Please on A VC
I don't think it's soup yet. Honestly, because I run No-Script, I thought you'd just removed comments.

Now that I take a look at it, I agree with Jackson. And I agree with several others that the over-reliance on javascript really sucks.

in Stuff on Paul Graham
Books were (are) my problem, actually, until I finally bought my own place. Moving box after box after box of books is more daunting than you might think. Good exercise, though.

I did, once, let a girlfriend convince me to get rid of a couple boxes of books. Never again. I've regretted it ever since, and she, of course, is out of the picture. Thankfully, my wife has the same book problem I have. :)

in Purdue University Warns Students: The RIAA Wants Info on Thousands of You on Bob Caswell
What?! Who is responsible then? This is basically stating that mistakes are made, false accusations happen: but it's not the university's problem.

That's right. It's not the University's problem: it is the RIAA's problem. The University is making best efforts to deliver the notices properly--but with technologies like DHCP, it can take significant effort (read: money) to track down the correct user--if that can in fact be done at all. With that language, the University is 1) establishing they are making a good faith effort to comply 2) protecting themselves from potential inaccuracies and 3) placing the blame for pursuing the wrong person on the doorstep of the RIAA. Which is where it belongs. They are the ones suing anonymous people based on IP numbers. They should bear the costs of tracking down the users and they should deal with the consequences of inaccurate information.

in I think the Microsoft Vista giveaway is an awesome idea on Scobleizer
It was *almost* a great idea... the problems are:

1. They should have given them a free license of Vista, and let the bloggers install it on their own hardware. *That* is the experience most users are going to have... not being shipped a loaded 64-bit machine with it already installed. It's a misleading experience.

2. Disclosure. Granted, they were sent (apparently) unsolicited. But it sure seems to me (an average consumer) like Microsoft was trying to *buy* good reviews. Again, that's not a good PR move.

Now, it seems, MS is making a mistake worse by asking for the laptops back (or to be given away)... as if.

Would it have been a good idea to have bloggers review Vista? Absolutely! Could Microsoft have executed this in a way that gave a more realistic and accurate review of end-users experiences? Absolutely. Could Microsoft have done this in a way that didn't seem like they were trying to *buy* good reviews? Absolutely. Did Microsoft instead alienate most of the blog world and lead to all kinds of speculation about their motives? Absolutely.

in Getting kicked off of Wikipedia for “not being notable” on Scobleizer
Hey, I enjoy Fred's blog... it's interesting and he has great taste in music. But he's not notable. Frankly, very few bloggers are... notorious, maybe, notable? Not so much.
