Well said - and to add to it, those who can consistently provide clarity will continue to be the most relevant - regardless of channel

Scott Gould Thanks Phil - I've been thinking this through for a long time - and it's an honour to have you comment here. I've been reading you for a while, and it seems you've come even more to the forefront with this "Blogging is Dead" theme. I've been discussing it at www.steverubel.com quite a bit - quite enthralling!

in Free Twitter SMS alerts in the UK return thanks to Wadja on blog till you drop!
Great news for the UK! Bell in Canada has agreed to allow Twitter updates again... but at 15 cents per message - even if you have an unlimited SMS bundle.

Our fingers are crossed that one of the other 2 national carriers will come out with a free bundle...

in Palm’s Synergy could be game changing on atmaspheric endeavors
Very interesting - it's kind of like what Yahoo is trying to do with their oneconnect product.

If they can aggregate all your contacts / emails / calendars... how about social media feeds too?

Jonathan OneConnect seemed like it had great potential and then Yahoo went to crap. It's a year later from when I captured this - http://www.atmasphere.net/wp/archives/2008/02/1... We've got nothing.

No reason why the social integration can't also be part of the Synergy model. Nokia has actually started to bring that forward in the latest devices. The 5800 and N97 will include feeds for contacts so you get greater context from people's activity streams when you look them up.

in Hand-tailored custom mobile phones on AdJoke
People who can afford such phones are probably also the same people who want the latest in technology... so what do you do with a gold plated phone that is outdated after 12 months?

in Still time to find Coal for Christmas? the Palm Centro on WirelessNorth.ca
The Centro was never meant to compete with the top smartphones - it was primarily a cheaper alternative. The Pre looks interesting... and could save their bacon in 09

in 2009/01/06/twitter-follow-fail/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
How about - all your tweets are about you going for coffee, drinking your coffee, and then going to the bathroom because of all the coffee you just had - or something equally as inane

in Geotag your Internet life on blog till you drop!
I believe geo-tagging will play a big role in defining next generation mobile social media sites and tools.

Tagging favorite restaurants, clubs, or places of interest will add a whole new level of personalization to online networks

in Are bloggers turning into puppets controlled by marketers? on blog till you drop!
very interesting... are they just ranking your blog and it's influence or are they looking at your entire sphere of influence - like your footprint on twitter, youtube a la friendfeed etc... ?

Obama also leveraged mobile like no other candidate has or did. He announced his VP through SMS and had his own mobile website.

He truly is the 2.0 President.

in The New Facebook is not that bad after all… on blog till you drop!
Overall i like the new facebook - but by removing most of your widgets and putting them in a non-intuitive "boxes" tab, they've diluted your personal identity within facebook.

it's like going to a networking or social event and told everybody has to wear the same t-shirt and jeans. People want / need individuality... and now some of that has been taken away.

in A Word About Personal Branding on The Social Media Marketing Blog
great post - one thing i always tell people is that... google never forgets! the most important brand you work for is... YOU - so managing it like you would a client's brand is important for long term success

in Remember your very first time online? on blog till you drop!
I used to play on a friend's vic 20 then commodor 64. my first machine was an Atari ST 520 - because it could handle both PC and Apple files... way ahead of its time!

I used to run a bulletin board system through my home phone number... until my parents got upset with the fact modems were calling our home all day and tying up the lines!

BBS dialup boards were the precursors to forums... which were really precursors to social media. What is old will eventually become new again... but with fancier names :)

in Cuil review from a linguistic point of view… on blog till you drop!
You nailed it - search needs to be local... and personal... and it better kick butt on mobile.

Interesting that they are disregarding user behaviour in favour of fancy new algorhythms - especially since none of my own blog links come up - even when i reference the URL!

in Surfing the net with Apple Safari on a PC on blog till you drop!
I've got Safari and Firefox as alternatives to IE... both look pretty good and come with great features lacking in IE.

Having said that, most of the time when i have a desktop browser open, i also have web email open too. Exchange web email is best experienced in IE as it is optimized specifically for it. Viewing my exchange web email in anything but IE is a frustrating experience... so for now i'll keep all 3 :)

in Who are the best aggregators in Canada? on Mobile Industry Review
Here is a link to all direct and indirect aggregators in Canada:
http://www.txt.ca/list_aggregators.htm

I've worked with many of them - but depending on your need or volume, the fact that they are direct or indirect may not matter.

Also note that some mobile agencies will have multiple aggregators setup on their inhouse mobile platform.

in Addicted to Twitter! (for now…) on blog till you drop!
I totally agree - i'm getting way more out of twitter now that i'm following and being followed by over 30 people. I'm not sure how people keep track of 300+ tweets... but i still think it works best when the ebb & flow is consistent.

I also find that i use twitter 90% of the time on my iphone or blackberry. I use twinkle for the iphone and it adds location and tinyurls for pictures which get included in your tweets. Pretty cool... and a neat way of staying connected when i'm not chained to a desktop or laptop.

in Addicted to Twitter! (for now…) on blog till you drop!
It would be great if you could assign followers to "streams" - so that those who like the personal updates can be separated from those who only want the professional insights & questions etc...

For now i'm trying to find balance between the two... but i've noticed that those who have huge followings tend to use it for one specific purpose...
