What I saw when I first saw this parade on Youtube (July 4, 2008) was a bunch of silly goof-offs from New England making fun of what I thought were local people. I loled. I didn't know that the bawdy satire floats would be so controversial. (Perhaps they got the idea from James Michener's "Hawaii", in which a bunch of high school students satirize their ancestors' journey to Hawaii with a report on said ancestors' nighttime behavior.)

Beverley Farms is not the first community to put a figure of a penis in a parade. Google "Kanamara Shrine". Over THERE it's not a shameful thing to do, but over HERE it is. How come?

Just pointing out one thing: the word is "pregnant", not "pregent" or "pergent". Furthermore, the word for gaining information is "learning", not "leatning". Also: "resolve" and "problem". That being said, I agree with your ideas. While the spelling is not kosher, you make good points.

The GOP's complaint was stupid. I am a donor to the Obama campaign, and I consider visiting a dying relative a valid use of campaign funds, particularly because it's doing the right thing anyhow and the public knows about it. Someone please tell the GOP to lay off.

There is also a potential problem in terms of water usage, especially if the urban areas involved happen to be in Sunbelt locations like Las Vegas or Phoenix. Vegetation consumes water. Farming consumes water. If you increase the amount of cultivation per acre of land itself (the footprint of the building) while keeping the amount of land under cultivation the same, then usage of local water is going to go up. How do we deal with increases in water consumption?
