in Toilet Paper When You Need It Most on Chris Brogan
Thank you so much for posting about the book. It brings a tear to my eye (flash back to the early 80's - like the ad that ran on TV with the native American Indian as he sat on his horse looking at all the trash), to hear that your Mom read the book, too.

My goal with TPE was to slap everyone (including myself) in the face, and push forward to achieving bigger and better things. I wanted to do this… but not in the cheesy internet, get rich quick overnight, I am a rich guy and your not, way that everyone (who isn't rich, by the way) is pitching and selling their stuff. I think most of these books, e-books, and “methods” are a total waste.

I wrote it because it was about time we all got real about what it takes to succeed. I wrote it to identify the reoccurring actions (behaviors), focus and beliefs we need to succeed. And for God's sake, I wrote it to acknowledge that it is more than OK to laugh along the entrepreneurial ride. It is mandatory.

Thanks again for the post Chris. I am truly flattered and humbled.

in Newlywed All Over Again: How I Fixed My Marriage on Twenty Set
I got married at 24 also, had a child... and launched my first company. No question love is not enough, it is simply the foundation. Communication, understanding, flexability, etc. are the important components.

Married now 12 years, and wouldn't trade it for the world.

That is so darn impressive... all the languages you speak. I totally salute you, and am inspired to start learning a new language. Keep the good mojo flowing, and looking forward to catching up with you again.

Interesting. As I was reading your post, I was thinking about how big Dell is and in the back of my mind was cursing them out a little for being the juggernaught. Then I looked down and my reliable laptop and remembered I am typing away on my beloved Inspiron. Oops. Dell is good.

in How Do I Get a Job at a Startup? on Twenty Set
Monica,

Great post. You are dead on. We just hired a newbie to the industry, because of those exact reasons. It was a win-win. He got great experience, a little bit of pocket change (plus we gave him a real cool suprise after his 2 month stay). Now we are in the position of offering him a full time position.

Nice post. Opened my eyes to how "old school" I am! Never heard of Vanilla before... and I am off to check it out.

I LOVE this idea. The individuals that do this, will have even more buy in on promoting the candidate. Others will abuse it, but it will become a David/Goliath mentality and the David's will become even more active in promoting their candidate.

I think this is brilliant.

Yowser! I love your posts and only have been a regular for 6 months on this site. I was hoping it would go on "forever".

This post is particularly good. You voice, what so many people feel, yet are afraid to say.

That is cool software. It looks like a very effective customer service tool - and yes, I agree, no-response is often the worst response.

It is kinda like football. When you are being tackled you got to keep your feet moving all the way until you hit the ground. That way you always get an extra few yards.

in The Change that Generation Y is Actually Creating on Twenty Set
Monica,

The is the most dead-on comment I have heard in a long time. And not just about Gen Y, but about everybody

"As much as we say we are not willing to sell our time, do any of us work less than 45+ hour weeks? No, because we’re so desperate to stay ahead of the other rich, bright, hard-working, degree-holding overachievers in our generation."

Thanks for voicing the trend we are all following.
