in Bend over for the mobile networks on Paul Jacobson
I've got to agree with you Paul and I think in Telkom's defence (never thought I'd ever type that) their system of allowing you to monitor your ADSL usage via the website in real time is really awesome. With regards mobile there are far too many people who are not aware of the high data charges once they cross the usage threshold and then they feel the pain (sans vaseline) when they are hit with a massive bill.
Surely in this day and age an online monitoring system for mobile data isn't too much to ask?

in Facebook Chat? Bah! on Paul Jacobson
Hi Paul, I have friends who have been apprehensive or scared about using any IM apps in the past (yes, these people do exist) however for some reason they have embraced Facebook.
My feeling is that FB chat will seem more accessible to them as they don't have to install any additional programmes, by using FB chat it's likely that they''ll be more open to the concept of instant messaging as a whole and investigate the uses IM has personally and professionally.
Let's wait and see but based on my personal feeling I have to agree that it's a good thing.

in Pownce has more to do with email than Twitter on Paul Jacobson
This is great - I've picked up that many ppl seem to be battling to make a distinction between the different apps. I think your point about Pownce being a more flexible messaging service puts things into perspective for me. I'm currently investigating it based on your recommendation and I do feel it has a wider range of services available. I'm suffering from 'partial attention disorder' (btw I'm in awe of your ability to keep up :) ) but like you, I aim to try out as many social web services as possible so that I'm up to date. For me the main challenge is to find a consistent use for each while trying to balance my life - in between facebook, twitter, pownce, friendfeed, e-mails, IMs, RSS readers, work and friends and family it becomes pretty difficult!
At the moment I'm throwing myself into as many tools as possible in order to find the right use for each and then stick with selected ones that I know I can balance and control and use responsibly and productively. What I'm trying to assist people with is choosing the service that works for them, that adds value, boosts productivity and ultimately manages time (basic RSS readers are a good case in point.) I have seen how you're using each one differently, I'll stick with it and see what happens.

in Ananzi (the largest search engine??) now optimising for Google… on thescott
eish - wtf indeed?
I must also say that after doing a listing last week I immediately got a phone call from an iol rep offering me an 'amazing ad deal' that would boost my ananzi rankings - it was the usual spray and pray stuff. I was never a fan and I'm certainly not now...

in The dangers of creating Facebook pages on thescott
wow...after all the good work you had done. It does leave a bitter taste and strips a bit of the essence of what 'cool' active user-engagement should be - something FB were doing so well with. Is this something to do with the Microsoft giant?? :)

i think it comes down to poor customer service practices! hopefully
it's something that they're working on.
the problem is that if your product's popularity grows so fast, you
risk not having enough resources to handle the support side of things
= poorly balanced offering.

Secondly, I've altered your name above, school boy error!
Finally to the comment, I believe hashtags still have a great future on Twitter and will continue to use them, regardless of what others say of their demise with the advent of real time search.
Continued fine tuning of tweets is something I am trying to achieve, placing more value in that 140 char limit.
Thanks for taking the time to post Melissa!
