I would love to win it for my lil teether Elijah! He is slow when it comes to cutting his teeth and only has the bottom two so far. He seemed to be teething FOREVER with those two so the cucumber oragel would be awesome for him! We also have started to brush those two little teeth so the gel and brush would be a big help!

As a veteran barista, if you're ordering in a café that knows its stuff, try asking for a "wet capp"--that should get you only a little foam, as opposed to a "dry capp," which is almost all foam. Though Mr. Peet's should certainly have listened to you, the mark of a good capp is usually super-lightness (1:1:1 espresso, milk & foam), so that's why you get all the frothy stuff. Is a latte just too milky?

I think that this is quite common in younger children because they don't want to "miss out" on ANYTHING. My daughter is 4 and she acts this way. I do believe that children also suffer from panick and/or anxiety attacks just like adults do, maybe even worse. They don't know how to express their feelings at that age so they do the only thing they can and that is to cry. My daughter has never suffered a traumatic experience but she may have had a nightmare or an experience that I am not aware of. I have found the best way to deal with it is to just talk to them calmly and point out the bright side.

Oh, that is a cute photo. The girls look thrilled and the cat, not so thrilled. My oldest is allergic to long-hairs, so as long as he keeps them off his bed he's fine. He's 18...do you think he keeps them off his bed? Um, no! The cats are more important that the congestion, I guess.

I was listing to an NPR show the other day that basically said most of the people that think they are middle-class are actually working-class. They basically said the true middle-class are the people who control large companies. The upper class or wealthy own the company, the middle-class would be those that occupy the top-tiers organizationally of these companies. Everyone else would make up the working-class - both white- and blue-collar workers.

I know quite a few people who make more than six figures who consider themselve to be working-class rather than middle-class.

A happy marriage can be wonderful, but an unhappy marriage can be equally as miserable. Even though wealth isn't terribly important, I do think it's important for people to marry others with similar values regarding money and finances, and to have open communication about the subject.

That's awesome! I'm like Mami, I don't see them, but I feel them. The only one I did see was a man, standing in a rain slicker in a friends bedroom, it was raining outside, and his slicker was dripping, and the floor was wet. I asked who he was but he never answered and my friends thought I was nuts! But there was no reason for the floor to be wet, so they thought there was some truth to what I saw!

I would have a panic attach of having a panic attack.
What really great stories you tell, I LOVE this kind of stuff, makes me feel like I am not alone.
After my brother was killed, I was just torn up and sitting alone in my room, not a single window opened feeling so NOT at peace, I heard him...told me he was okay, he loved me, he would watch over me, and I felt him move THROUGH me, like you feel the wind pass by your face...and I felt at peace. He was a soul set free to fly, which is what I consider butterflies, and I see them during all the most important events in my life, my sons births, their Baptism's, birthdays....even when it's mid winter when butterflies aren't around!

I am due soon (March 1st!), and will have to go back to work shortly after the birth of the baby in order to make ends meet. I was given a breast pump, and I'm planning to pump while I work so that my baby is exclusively breastfed. This sounds like an amazing system, and would be so wonderful to have! I realize I'm late to the game here, but here's my 2 cents anyway.

I have 2 cameras. My point and shoot is a Sony Cybershot which I love. It takes great pictures with virtually no delay.

My other camera is a DSLR, the Canon Digital Rebel XT. I got it this summer and it's amazing. I thought the Cybershot took nice pictures...the DSLR blows them away. 100% worth it!

I bought my first sweater dress a couple months ago, and if you do it right, it covers a multitude of sins. Such as a big-lunch tummy (A-lines work for this). Besides, who doesn't feel cozy but also cool wearing a sweater dress and tights?

And don't worry about being mistaken for a high school student...I have to do home visits before my students start school, and I've actually had parents ask to see my diploma before because they didn't believe I was old enough to be their child's teacher!

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I know exactly how you feel. A long commute just sucks. I used to drive an hour+ to work each day, and it sucked up every moment of my free time. It might be worth looking into a job closer to home.

I have to say that I disagree with Scott. Blogging at work and reading blogs at work is often crossing a line. I know that, at my school, I can't even access most blogs, and there's a reason for that. If you are on a break, it's one thing, but be careful.

My recommendation is to not bring work home. I don't know if you do, but if you don't, don't start. For me, it's a hard thing to do as a teacher, but my home time is for me, not for work.

I pierced my nose in college, and I loved it. Seriously, loved it. Unfortunately, my allergies really did not love it. After the third time that I had sneezed the stud across the room, I gave up. A girl can only re-pierce her nose so many times.

Still, I really wish it had worked out...

I feel like this frequently and I only work 8 hour days. There is just not enough time in the day/too much time spent at work. Don't feel anxious about taking off of work- if you have vacation time then you deserve to take it. At my job it expires every year, which is even more incentive to use it.

I also read that piece and thought it was absolutely absurd. If you wanted to call it "how to become a pompous ass in 28 days", then perhaps it was right on the money. Bible scholar here who LOVES Jesus and just spend time in seminary... so don't get me wrong... what I mean is that the Bible is the communication of God and his people - it is not merely a stoic rule book... did you actually read your car manual?... those things are BORING... We live by the Bible in so far as it points to JESUS. Much of dogmatic Christian doctrine comes from Martin Luther's reactionary statement "sola scriptura" (latin for "only scripture)... he was REACTING to the church that valued church polity (in other words: people's understand OF scripture) above the words of God... however we need BOTH: the church (a community of people who follow Jesus) is God's work on this earth and in community is the best way to understand it.. so you can't just sit alone reading scripture and hope to live perfectly. So without the Holy Spirit at work AND the people of God it doesn't work... in that it is NOT a manual... We need Jesus and we need each other!>

I am on the pastoral team of a large, fairly conservative non-demoninational Christian church. I LOVE it. I have had bad experiences in church ministry in the past. Luckily our church has a great balance of outreach (the mission of the church) and discipleship (preparing people for the mission of the church)...

I find that when churches focus on loving people and being grace-filled that God faithfully takes care of the rest... Judgement is just not our call. Faithfulness is...

Jesus thoughts on sin (Luke 15):

Did the prodigal (lost) son, sin? YES... what did his father do? RUN TO HIM WITH OPEN ARMS... often the church of today (as with Jesus' time) acts more like the prodigal son's older brother (whiny, nitpicky, pridefully entitled and judgemental)...

Jesus thoughts on hell (Matt 18):

Who will go? The unmerciful servant... shown MERCY for his debts (all Christians) but showed no mercy for anyone else's debts to him... WHO deals with the KING'S debts in that passage... the KING does...

I respectfully disagree. A manual means that every little thing is all figured out and controllable and WITHOUT MYSTERY (I doubt your car manual has the story of a prostitute in it or ever indicates that a part of the car is unknowable or imperfect, or has the description of mystical or strange images in it - does your car manual contain poetry?)... AND the church is not that clean and easy. Because the church is people. The people of God. People are messy. God isn't messy but he is willing to get into the mess with us (Jesus: who said if you have seen ME you have seen The Father - and Jesus hung out with some starkly unrelgious folks)... The Bible is written in the context of community FOR the context of community... And God is often mysterious, even in his revelations of himself to us.

Again, I commend Velvet Elvis for anyone who really wants to be messed with in the BEST sense of that!!!>

As for the "if this" and "if that" posts from many of you, that really gets us nowhere.

I don't think anyone could have predicted or prevented this horrifying tragedy.

I think a gun in the hands of students is just the worst idea. What if other students in that class also had anger issues/ or mental problems? People owning more guns never seems to be a solution to gun violence, at least in the US. If we had stricter laws for gun purchasing he would have never been able to so easily aquire two very powerful firearms.

Jesus did NOT kill those who came to kill him. Now, I am not saying "don't defend yourself" ... It is just that this gun violence stuff just gets really overblown (HUGE pendelum swing). That first comment with the student news letter I thought was a joke: a classroom full of students with guns ready to shoot anyone menacing who enters their classroom? that is CRAZY and NOT part of any free, democratic society that I EVER want to live in.

Anyway, women are said to be more mature because we take the time to think and analyze; guys don't - they don't find it necessary, unless it's a chart, assignment or something that will affect them in a big way. However, the things we analyze are not considered important in the male-dominated world.

Maybe our past contributes heavily to why we are concerned about "trivial" matters. Women used to stay at home and take care of children. When they have their free time they go out and gossip with friends. We talk about who did what, who went where, and who said what. So, we analyze the hidden truths behind all these things. What's important to us is these matters. We don't have other more important agendas.

Men got the oppurtunity to go out to work - business, economics, politics - they analyze these things. naturally they become more practical and square.

Not all women are problem makers. We all know that there will ALWAYS be a glass ceiling, but it shouldn't stop us from asking for sufficient. If you were in the lower tier of a third world country and you had to support yourself and your 3 children alone, wouldn't you want equal pay? Shouldn't we fight for justice?

Furthermore, women always want to help. It's just that men do not like to ask for help. So they see women who want to help, a problem or in the way of their first problem.

Question: how many men actually do stop the car to ask for directions?

To deny a women the right to question and analyze the way we do is asking us not to be women. God made us sensitive for a reason. He made us the way we are for a reason. We are insecure creatures. that's why our husbands are supposed to love us. Or maybe it just has to do with the fact that if our fathers do not give us the love that we need, we grow up to be insecure people. it is a fact actually. Women who do not receive love from their fathers tend to be insecure and they look for a male support/love eslewhere.

I don't think women mind being helpers, if we do mind, we wouldn't be cleaning houses (considering we don't have a servant) or cooking for our husbands. We just want to be appreciated for it because these MCP's think that it's part of a women's role, regardless to whether she's handling a full time job in an office.

Women handle problems differently from men. Sure, we could learn a few things from them but they could learn one or two things from us too! yeah sometimes we go bonkers and get become irrational but how can we be rational when whatever we say in defense to ourselves is considered irrational because we start to become defensive. The thing is guys need statistics, not generalizations. Not everything has statistics.

Women tend to follow our heart/instinct. But is it really? Or is it because men keep repeating that until we actually believe it? If we always follow our head, we'd never hear our baby son/daughter cry in the next room. They say women were moulded after God's own heart. God heart is sensitive too.

Maybe we should be more rational when handling a problem. I think that it will happen one day in the future. When we have better education oppurtunities and when we finally break the mould of our past.

Anyways, not to get into a fight with you or anything.. just we always have these sort of conversations.

I take my kids clothes to a local consignment store, but only just started going there. I've only been in a handful of times, but the sales clerk (I think her name is April? Haha!) has remembered not only my name every time, but she asks about my kids. Now this woman sees plenty of people and their children daily. That's amazing to me. Does anyone feel like this score release is worse than usual? Usually the releases are the day after the previous part that was already released, so I would have expected REG today. I am waiting on REG in MA - hoepfully my last one.

Sounds like a good idea to me! I will be thinking and praying about it! Jen, my sister in law and I sit down over Christmas each year and write out a similar list. We write out prayers and desires for each of our children, ourselves, and our husbands. We share our lists with eachother and then give eachother copies, so that we can be praying for eachother's families. I love it! She and I are getting together next week, so maybe I can carry my list over to my blog!! Fun!

that's so true- my hubby and I are only together 4 years and we've already passed through "expecting" too much on Valentine's Day. It's so commercial right now anyway so we've both relaxed on the issue. I never thought about how depressing it might be for single parents though- that is most thought provoking as my own mother was a single mom.

I'm certainly not an authority and I can see how that would be a very challenging faith question. We don't recite the Apostle's Creed at my church because of Rufinus (and because we really- for better or worse- only focus on the NT and more specifically Paul's letters (another topic for another day). But I agree with you. I don't think Jesus went to hell or that he had to go to hell for his suffering to be complete. He had to go to the cross and I agree with your explanations of the biblical verses, in the gospels but also the eph. verse- I do think it's more about his incarnation and life as fully human and fully divine than it is an allusion to him going to hell. I haven't taken a class on Pauline theology- it would be interesting to study his agendas in writing things like Ephesians more in depth.
And for what it's worth, I'm ever so grateful.

One of my husband's favorite Christian authors (Donald Miller) was even quoted as saying that he wasn't sure he still believed everything exactly the same as he did when he wrote his first book.

I think the people have to be close to him in order for him to "learn" their powers. So maybe Hana is somewhere nearby, but I'm gonna have to agree with re and adam that it was like the feedback that came from Peter and Matt being in the same space.

My theory is that once he realized that he just had to remember how the people made him feel, he started thinking about all of the people with powers that he had met, thus having an overload from thinking of them all at once.

this question came about from my personal experiences at grocery stores. I can get exhausted balancing price, quality, ethical standards of producer, local vs. non local, organic vs. non. All of these things are important to me and I'll never stop prioritizing them, but there are occasions when I envy those for whom grocery shopping is mostly just about price and taste.

i think some people have problems with how sheep are treated, insecticides used on the animals, and the mulesing practice. also, some wool yarns are treated with chemicals which act as moth repellents. not to mention toxic dyes which are used on most commercially produced knitting yarns...

but i love wool!

CITY DESTROYS VALUABLE NATIVE PLANT GARDEN

For the past ten years, Deborah Dale, a director and past President of

the North AmericanNative Plant Society, has cultivated a native plant

garden, both on her private property and on the city-owned boulevard

in front of her Scarborough home. Tuesday evening, August 21st, she

returned home to find that the

entire garden had been destroyed and the plant material removed from

the site. She immediately called the Toronto Police Service to report

the vandalism, but to her surprise has since learned that City of

Toronto staff were responsible for the destruction.

Ms. Dale has spent years acquiring unique and rare native plants which

she has grown in her garden, in addition to promoting the use of

native plants to gardeners across North America. Some of these plants,

like Butterfly Milkweed, took years to reach the blooming stage, and

many may not be easily replaceable.

The City not only destroyed flowering plants and plants that were

setting seed for use by the North American Native Plant Society in

their fundraising efforts, but they also removed shrubs, a red oak

tree, and even the sign indicating that it was a natural,

pesticide-free garden - a sign which Ms. Dale had purposefully placed

in her garden to educate the public and communicate her strong

environmental beliefs.

This destruction happened without any notice from the City. Ms. Dale

had received an advisory of a neighbour's complaint in the spring of

this year and at that time advised the by-law officer that her's was a

native plant garden, and therefore she was entitled by law to tend it

under the exemption given to natural gardens under the City's Grass

and Weeds By-law, Chapter 489-2, section B(2). At the time of the

spring 2007 complaint, she offered to show the by-law officer the

garden, but has subsequently not heard anything further from him.

There was no long turf grass in the garden, and none of the plants

were noxious weeds under the Ontario Weed Control Act. In fact, there

were no grounds whatsoever for destroying Ms. Dale's garden under

Chapter 489 of the Toronto Municipal Code or any other laws. The

City's actions were contrary to their laws, and even to their own

policies which encourage the growth of natural gardens as an

alternative to traditional lawns.

Despite this stated policy, the City has a history of threatening to

destroy homeowner's native plant gardens. A recent precedent-setting

court cased launched by a Toronto gardener against the City of Toronto

resulted in the Courts affirming the Charter-protected rights of

gardeners to tend natural gardens on the city-owned street allowances

in front of their homes. The City of Toronto has flouted this recent

court decision in destroying Ms. Dale's garden.

It took years to build the garden, and much of it is irreplaceable.

Ms. Dale is now considering legal action against the City for its

unwarranted and illegal action.

I think it's so easy for people to point a finger at the parents.. oh they didn't do enough, they didn't care enough.... bullshit... 99% of parents out there can't figure out what's going on with their moody teenagers. They tried to be good parents, they took their kids to counseling, they tried to help them... and anyone who thinks that respect is "earned" obviously hasn't been in high school in years. I'm only a senior in college now so I remember high school pretty well.... and I remember seeing perfectly nice people getting humiliated in the caf or the hallways because they didn't wear the same clothes or drive a cool car... I think the only person who has ever logically summed up where Dylan and Eric's problems have come from is Marilyn Manson in his interview to Michael Moore in Bowling for Columbine. We live in a society where war is seen as an acceptable way of getting whatever it is we need or want, the crime rate is sky high and all of our media constantly forces it down our throats that we will never be good enough unless we're supermodel thin with Armani clothes and a Lambo in the driveway of our cushy suburban home... We turn on the news every night and we're assaulted with stories about rapes, murder, and war. Violence begets violence... you want someone to blame? Blame congress for bombing cities all over the world, blame the media for making people feel inadequate.

Don't get me wrong, what Erik and Dylan did was unforgivable, unnecessary and heart-breaking. Same thing goes for every other school shooting in this country, but maybe we should ask ourselves why in many other stable countries (Canada, Germany, England, etc) who have a comparable number of guns per household, listen to the same music, watch the same movies, and have the same violent video games have substantially less gun violence and school shootings... I highly doubt the answer to that question is that parents in America aren't doing their jobs and I think it's much more about the way our society is structured.

This is just plain sickening. How could another MOTHER and FATHER do that to a child? They deserves the needle in their arms. They knew that Megan had suffered from ddepression, and they knew what could happen as a result of the myspace account. Megan may have taken her own life, but there is no doubt that Lori Drew and her husband are to blame. I am the same age that Megan Meier was when she commited suicide. I have never had a myspace or facebook account because of all of the molesters and predators out there. Take this from an 8th grader, ALL kids have a myspace account. People underestimate the power of the myspace. I hope kids will smarten up and stop using myspace. God Bless You Megan Meier's family and may Megan rest in peace.

I was at a meeting last night where a bunch of Mount people were discussing whether they had watched the funeral processions and someone said (roughly paraphrased) "I'm an East Sider and we just aren't as much in everybody's business" and another woman responded with "we're just close-knit" and I was thinking about that. I grew up in Urbana, OH and moved here to go to the Mount, and it blew my mind when we went to orientation and everyone was doing West Side Bingo - all those girls who went to Seton or MND and knew friends of friends and cousins and whatnot. I guess I kind of did that, too, because I had a couple of cousins there and also some of the people I met had gone to parochial school with friends of mine. Maybe it's actually Catholic Bingo? Anyhoo, it's totally true and now that I've lived in Hyde Park and Norwood it is definitely not the same.

By the way, this is Erin of the PPF process that you ended up not using on some book or another, which may have actually kept you sane. :) I'm not there anymore, but I was on LinkedIn and saw your title and thought you had also left and then I found your link to your blog and now I'm here. Whew. In addition to West Side and Catholic Bingo, I play a fair amount of Publishing Bingo. :)

I used to have that feeling to, but I think I've got the system figured out (after a MAJOR closet purge. it was epic)
I have everything in a pretty cohesive color scheme aka everything matches everything else
I know that everything fits me perfectly, so I don't need to fuss with it
its all organized so I can see it, and pared down only to my "favorite" things.
as for those crazy mornings, I always just grab a statemtent/quirky piece that I'm feeling that morning, and put everything else on basic. Such as I was feeling my long black waist coat vest today, just pop it ontop of jeans and a t-shirt
yesterday I liked my crazy tribal print skirt, wear it with a t-shirt and flats. ect.
I realized I just wrote a novel :) but I've been thinking about the same thing for a while too.

Ever since then, I've always been a little weirded out when movies are released on Sept. 11, or albums come out that day, or anything at all is scheduled for that date. Because it's never just going to be "a day" ever again for anyone in our generation. I wouldnt say it is in my yard but it is where we park our other car because we dont have a spot in our driveway and live on a cut thru road... so it is busy...kmmxzmxxzsa
but we have a huge lot which had an old hotel on it which was destroyed while we lived here... now, they park trailers and boats and campers over there. We cant see it but caddy corner to our house is a cemetery which we can sometimes hear if someone has a graveside service. we CAN HEAR the music or what not... in the winter we can see it better because of the lack of foliage... and if there was not another lot full of trailers etc. oh, and we can see the child development center ....

I had an amazing massage that began with a foot bath once, and after reading the articvle in Mothering, I couldn't believe that I'd never thought of doing one for a child! So that night, Luke had a foot bath and at first he giggled, but then he calmed down and seemed to enjoy it. I will definitely be doing it more often. Love Mothering!

We stop at the Sauk Centre DQ all the time, its right on the way to the lake! And Opportunity Drive that is where the big scrapbooking warehouse is. Creative Memories I believe!! You where so close to us but yet it just didnt work out!!

i liked your lame tip....i am gonna have to try that! my tip is that I hang all our shirts right away (most of the time) to prevent wrinkles and it saves on dresser room! I hang them right above the dryer, so it is easier for me..I also have all my boys help put their laundry away..even my 20 month old!

ME!!!!! I have identical twin girls who are now 8!!! I went on to have three other girls after them and living with 5 girls is a BLAST! I too was mesmorized by having identical twin girls. There is just something about the bond that they share. A bond, that I don't think you can see too much of yet. It's almost like their sensitivity towards each other is heightened and they can actually feel what the other is feeling. It isn't rare to find the one consoling the other when they have fallen, or had a harsh word cross their hearts. It is special and it is a blessing to those of us who get to witness it.

I don't have twins...but my BFF Rebecca does! Ya'll were on the mom of multiples message board together..I am their second Mama!! They are not identical, but it is still so amazing to watch them. I am about to post about them right now!! Rebecca dosen't have a blog....things are just too crazy right now for her. Her oldest Trae is 2 1/2 and between him and the twin~ Nate and Wake, that is all she can handle right now. Your girls are sooo precious, and ofcourse your boys are too! I love me some boys!! Hi, I have been following your blog for a month or two now and though I should finally say hello!

After experiencing Spring break from school, we are definitely ready for summer vacation as well, and are so much more convinced now that we are going to try homeschooling after this year! Hey, I just came across your blog. :) I gave up soy products about 6 months ago and have switched to almond milk. Unfortunately, both of my sons have grown up on soy milk and I am having the hardest time transitioning them! Not to mention that they love pretty much all soy "meat replacement" foods. It's going to be a tough battle..

Some doctors recommend complete bed-rest for the mother coupled with massive intakes of protein (generally in the form of "protein shakes" such as Boost or Ensure) as a therapy to try to counteract the syndrome. Theories for why this would be effective vary, but some doctors claim to have seen it help. There are, however, no formal clinical trials indicating that the bed rest / high-protein diet is effective.

Sending many many prayers your way for you an the babies. I know that amniotic fluid can magnify babies on the ultrasound. So, I am hoping that is why the difference in weights for you. I think when I was researching Twin to Twin when my hospital roomie was still pregnant and I was home... It had said something about drinking Ensure. I dont know where I found that info.. but I know my roomie was not having any when she was pregnant and by the time I found the info and called her she had delivered. I will try to find where I saw that!

Hey! When I was in the hospital with #3 for 20 days, my roomie's twins had TTTS.... Her babies had the Baby A with LOTS of fluid and Baby B had NO fluid.. he was a STUCK baby... and there was a HUGE difference in the size of the twins. Now, I had polyhydramnios with my 1st and 4th babies... #1, I did not know until the day I delivered and Baby #4 I knew from early on. He was a big baby which they said he would pee alot.. dont know the truth in that but nothing could be found for the cause. When I was researching, I did find scary reasons as to why my son would have had too much amniotic fluid so I do not suggest googling it. The docs would be able to figure something if it was a big problem I would think! My son is now a happy 7 month old healthy baby! I am glad the docs are following up with everything?? so, these babies arent showing their "junk" on these ultrasounds?? my son was NOT shy! He would force his behind where the peri would be using the wand!

Let it go. Thats my best advice. When I was inpatient and then once I was home it was rough to have the Hub running the show. I like things done my way but you just have to remember that eventually it will get done. Blinders are probably a good idea. *wink
Focus on the twins and remember that your on bedrest for them to get them bigger and stronger! The house might be messy for a while but that's the great thing about a house- it can be cleaned again! No one will even look twice at a mess when they know you have four boys running around AND your pregnant with twins! Keep your chin up and remember that while it might be messy the boys will remember having a good time with daddy when Mom was in bed not that your house was a sty! Ya know? Ok I am so I'll close for now! Wish I was closer to help you out!

I'm sure those contractions are just those babies moving around! Make sure you keep hydrated with lots of water! I know on days when I didn't drink as much I felt contractions. Make sure you get your feet up once and awhile too! I can't wait to hear how the appointments go next week! Enjoy your weekend!

Well Lets see... You said they were momo right?! If that is the case, I think that most momo pregnancies are 75% girl. (BUT I had two boys already and then had twin sons as well..so go figure.) But would save on the clothes-hand me downs are always great)--- BUT I will just be praying that they are healthy babies and after all thats the most important thing right!?

Hey! I just stumbled upon your blog... i just had baby #4 in Nov. Boy #1 for us though. I had a small baby shower and for me, the things that would have been AWESOME would have been gift certificates/gift cards to our favorite restaurants/take out... it would have helped out INCREDIBLY because it took a bit of time getting used to our new routine... and I had had a C section and Jaundice for the baby and every illness under the sun ravaged through our house... so.. it would have been great to not have to worry about making dinner or warming up a casserole....
Also, my son didnt like ANYTHING... STILL Doesnt... my girls were EASY... So.. I guess I have liked the Fisher Price Rainforest gear ALOT... Been very happy with the swing that PLUGS IN so NO batteries and no swing conking out on you mid swing! I just bought the rainforest highchair also.. multi height and recline and toy attachments.. he seems thrilled with it so far.. but I am sure you know how it is with every kid being so different... and this being our first boy after 3 girls... we are in a whole new world!

Well lets see..
~Bouncy seats-so many purposes! (altho my sons hated the vibration)
~1.5 clothes.. great!
~I say amazing amounts of burp cloths and baby wash clothes. (we wiped down the babies morning and night)
~As far as crib- my sons play in theirs during diaper change. I know its a hot topic but my sons cobed with us for now. It helped so much with night feedings.(Plus the fact that they came home so tiny I was afraid they would stop breathing so they slept on my chest so I could monitor them!) I agree with everyone else start with one crib to begin with then see if you need to get another one after a couple months.
~Swings- I only got one and the boys take turns. Now that they are older we have "stations" of play. They get bored easily so the boys rotate between swing and floor and jumper.
~I have one of those Maya wraps and It was amazing when the boys first came home! (granted they were teeny tiny and both fit in all snuggly buggly-like)-Now we just have two snugglys and we each get a baby)
~Stroller- We had great luck with the double snap and go which worked with the car seats that we had picked out.
~We have the high chairs that attach to your kitchen chairs- LOVE IT! They have different settings so they can use them all the way up to toddlerhood when they become booster seats. (I love things that will keep being used for some time.. makes me feel like its more worth the money.)
~If you use pacifiers buy like a bazillion of them! I like to think of myself as pretty organized but when the boys start screaming it amazes me how I can never seem to find one anywhere!
~1 baby tub-I think its easier to run tub time assembly line style! LOL
~Robeez- We were given a different pair for each of the boys and this is how we've told them apart! Its been great!
and ofcourse-PATIENCE! haha, you will need that for sure *wink
But seriously its the most amazing journey I've ever been on! If I think of anything else I will post!

I'm fanatical about finding exactly what I want- turns out the item never exists and I get peeved and settle on something similar. Argh. In a perfect world right?!
I wasn't too into the maternity pants and shorts so I lived in sun dresses from Old Navy and Gap. (The stretch ones- just got the regular size not maternity and only up a size or so. Fit comfy and were breathable in the heat!)

incredible!! I often think about the same things... my parents and grandparents were part of the american ex prisoners of war chapter in rhode island and I often think of how these men didnt really have people to hear their stories... nobody really listens.. then all of our elders who are in nursing care and just "taken care of" and never heard... they might have something interesting to say if we all just take a minute to listen to their memories....

The best thing that ever happened to me was Elijah sleeping in his own room in his own crib all night.
In my first marriage I slept with my daughters cause I didn't sleep with my husband.
With Jeremiah that sure as hell ain't happening!
It only took two nights to get Elijah to sleep on his own, but two months to get Max to...

Thanks for the post--my husband's cousin remarried and his younger wife had problems getting preggers so they spent MULTIPLE THOUSANDS of dollars on fertility and implanting procedures because she wanted "her own baby." Well, after giving herself months of hormone shots in the ass to keep her aging (40s) body from rejecting the fetus, which ended up being forced into existence with donor egg/sperm or both, they finally managed to get "their baby" (even though it's NOT theirs, genetically). ?? WTF !! Why is this OK but I'm "selfish" for not wanting children? Couldn't this couple have done more to help kids by donating those many thousands of dollars to programs to help poor kids, or our woefully underfunded educational system? How about adoption, if it's not of their genes anyway? I swear, the next time someone tells me I'm selfish for not procreating, or shoves a picture of this Frankenbaby in my face expecting me to OOH and AAH, I might just blow a gasket. Thank God for Reisling.

Some of the people who would give me a hard time for being so "selfish" would turn around and give this old woman credit for her "gift of life." This attitude--I find it extremely aggravating: a case like this, I think, epitomizes selfishness. Sure, yep! You bet, some gift. That's right, what we need is more people--and more people on the dole, at that--right, lady. Grrrrr!!!

Bingo, Holly: I like that. I was fuming by the third paragraph of this tripe. As IF a woman cannot be full of "humanity" (what?) or a diligent worker, or responsible enough to show up on time at work without a raging hangover without getting knocked up. Give me a break. As far as the "mothers" not being the source of the "office bitch-fest?" It makes NO difference: some of the meanest, snakiest gossips and backstabbers I've encountered had more than one kid... I'd just love to see the scientific basis of this "research" to which the author refers.

Timely: check out NPR's story on "babies at work:" the mother they interview says how "great," "wonderful," "positive," "stress-reducing," etc. it was to bring her baby to work. For WHOM, other than the mother? Jeez, leave the baby at home! If my company had a policy like that I would go find another fucking job.

When I worked in an office, we did not have official "bring the brat to work" days, but co-workers--one woman in particular loved to do this--would bring their snot-monsters to work when they were too sick to go to pre-school or grade school. One notably noxious day, this woman let her germ-ridden brat climb, drool, and hork all over my work station when I was out picking up a sandwich--when I got back I noted the kid was sick, wiped everything down, but still ended up with a case of strep from her icky offspring. Grrr! If the kid's not old enough to sit still and watch the parent work and learn something, leave them the hell at home! (Not that I'm bitter. Ha ha!)

My husband and I have been donating to Defenders of Wildlife to assist them as they are trying to bring attention to Palin's wholesale approval of "aerial gunning" of wolves and bear. I watched one of the videos and it's so, so sad...wolves running across the open snow, nowhere to hide, and "chop-chop-chopchopchop" BOOM BOOM and the wolf falls twitching and trying to bite at the bullet in its leg or its guts... Thank you for posting some affirmation for the child-free. I’ve had it up to here (forehead) with breeders. Last night we went out to dinner at our favorite Thai restaurant. It was a nice time, except for the utterly annoying fellow diner(s). There was a couple with young baby, which was LOUDLY screeching; their huge designer stroller was blocking half the only table left to us. We figured they’d be leaving soon (right? please?) since it was likely edging toward 7:00-8:00 and it’s Bedtime for the Little Darling, and we really love this restaurant, so…we sat down.

Honestly, I have very little patience with parents in cases like that. There are so many other places around here that have great food AND a “family atmosphere;” this particular restaurant is a quiet, candle-lit, intimate cafe-type place with (in the evenings) a romantic atmosphere where we–and several other couples–wanted to unwind after an insane week. My husband's been working 70-80 hours/week for the past month,we're getting ready to move; I'm handling most of the packing and moving arrangements and trying to keep my small business running; my in-laws and a friend are visiting this month...you get the idea.

The “mom” was cooing loudly, and staring pointedly at the other tables, often leaning over to “SSSHSHHHHSHSHSHSHSHHHHHHHH” at the sprog, who was nowhere near old enough to understand that, so we get SCRREEEEEECH! WA WAH WAH WAH EEEEEEE! SHHHHHHHHHHH! for the first half of the dinner. I understand that the “parents” want to go out to dinner: they’re probably half out of their minds with lack of sleep and desocialization, but I don’t care: that’s one of the things you sign up for when you have a BAY-bee: Get A Fucking Babysitter, or Go Somewhere Else. –No class.

This crap, after a week of trying to avoid any more coverage of Sarah “Hockey-Mom” Palin and her brood of FIVE (I actually overheard someone say that if she can manage five kids and a governorship she would make a great President! –No!) makes me utterly happy to find some sanity on blogs like this. If my in-laws suggest (again) that they'd "really like more grandchildren," someone's going to get a fucking fork in their eye.

Enjoying a QUIET rest-of-the-weekend hiking and working at home, thanks.

Teething is hard on babies and mamas! Someone once told me that you know they are teething when you don't recognize the behavior of your child. Griffin was SUPER whiny last week and I said to myself, "Who is this child and where did my sweet boy go?" Then I felt in his mouth and there's a molar coming in ... yuck! Good luck!

Hi there. I just found your blog via MckMama's and I think it's so ironic you were just in Lexington. My husband graduated from VMI a couple years ago and we go back to visit quite often. It is so beautiful up there and everything's at a much slower pace- love it! Next time y'all head up, you should visit the Safari Park that's just past Lexington. i agree...i've known people who have worked in mcdonalds and some of the horror stories have me hesitating every time i think about stopping by the drive thru. i think it's funny that they say 100 percent beef. sure its technically all beef, but if its a 60/40 beef/fat ratio, it doesn't make it healthy. then cooking said "beef" on griddles caked with lard...well add it up.

yay for new jobs. can i have one too? lol have you ever tried making your own soups? i recently started getting into it, and i will never go back to canned. you can put whatever ingredients you want, control the amount of salt or fat or whatever, and the best part for me...no mystery additives. no preservatives no nothin. all natural ingredients. i make enough for about 10-12 servings and freeze about half. (especially good to have around in the winter months) i just made a turkey meatball and veggie soup. it was so good. i'm posting the recipe today on my page, so come and have a look!

lol the first time i tried to use a diffuser it took me forever to figure it out. i think its still jammed back in the back of my bathroom cabinet. luckily i don't have insanely curly hair anymore so i can give it a quick ol blow dry and be done. i've also found some frizz serums that work nicely for humid/yuck days

i used to have a hell of a time at WW meetings because all the ladies there were like...45+, i got a lot of motherly support, but i needed someone more my age to relate to. i found some support through the message board on WW.com and then on here recently, but still, flesh and blood support is always way nicer.
as far as starting a conversation, i never try and dumb myself down, some people respond to it, some don't...its a gamble, but i eventually win everyone over lol.
