in If you want to buy me… on Elliott Back's Blog
I'm supposedly worth $3,107,186. What does it take to invest in you?
Does this go to $0 upon death?

in Amazon.com Redesign: Wow, it’s Different — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
Hmm, that new look for Amazon.com reminds me of Gmail. Did they get inspired by the Gmail interface?

Really, what plan do you have with them? How does the cost compare?
I've been on DreamHost for some time now, and I'm pretty happy with it.

in New Blog Network Layout: Zephyr on Elliott Back's Blog
I like the new design a lot. The use of gradients and shadows is good. How does "Today's Featured Blog" work-- do you update it manually? I wouldn't be able to keep up that kind of discipline.
The first time I visited the new front page, it said "visits!" at the bottom, with no number before it. That seemed awkward-- might want to change that.

in Why Big.com? — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
My grandpa might use it. He only reads the headlines in the Chinese newspaper, because he can't see the regular-size print anymore.

in Did you know that Apple’s status bars uniformly suck? — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
I definitely agree. I was always confused about this issue ever since I saw the first OS X progress bar a few years back. I decided it was just eye-candy that served absolutely no practical purpose, other than to make users feel good. Maybe not showing how long something actually takes makes Apple's users feel like things are actually moving faster. At least the animation cycles across the bar more times!

in Gender in Blogging: Counting the Men and the Women — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
What do you count as "blogging"? Many of the females I know use social networking-type blog services, such as Xanga, LiveJournal, myspace or even deviantart. On the other hand, many guys use more traditional blogging services, like Blogger.com, WordPress, and movable type.

in Christmas in Chandler, Phoenix, Arizona — Elliott C. Back on Elliott Back's Blog
Cool stuff. Still, nothing beats those music-synchronized Christmas lights of that electrical engineer from Ohio. The video of those is humorous and entertaining.

in The Linksys 54GC: Dead on Arrival, Twice on Elliott Back's Blog
Wow, I hadn't thought web routers were so susceptible to breakdown, as they're quite commonplace now and the circuitry must be well-established. Still, I'm using a very cheap, no-name 802.11g router, and it's working okay. Yet your posts makes me wonder - how much can a router hardware defect affect performance/throughput, and can it go unnoticed? That is, if I replaced my router with an identical one, could I see increased bandwidth?

in Here’s one way to beat baysian and other content filtering on Elliott Back's Blog
In your screenshot, "Thunderbird thinks this message is junk." Looks like it worked after all!
And if not, I don't see why bayesian filters don't consider image tags as well. Sure, you might not be able to decipher the text on-the-run; but you know there's an image there, and the size of the image. If it's just a little clipart or icon, it could pass. You could then program your filter to look down on messages that start off with a large image, for example.
